A friend once asked me if I'd help him put his old Mini back on the road. Turned out he'd stripped it down to component parts years ago and it was basically a bodyshell and a big pile of boxes of parts. Was quite satisfying taking a lazy summer putting it all back together, lovely simple car, started first turn of the key!

Sounds like good fun and so rewarding! I'm not sure I'll plan to do similar just yet with all the other projects we have but it would be a fun little project one day to get another and rebuild it...
If you can afford a proper Mini, get one. It will teach you proper spannering and how to pack a car to maximise space. I had a 1275GT and did about 1000 miles a month in it. On twin carbs it would do between 19 and 55mpg. That is a 7.5 gallon tank, good for way over 240 miles a fill on that SPi system. You need a steering column drop bracket, makes the steering way nicer on the arms - can be fitted in about 30 minutes. Best thing about a real Mini - no drivers' aids. You learn to drive properly in them, although the later ones had brake servos, which were not needed!

This is our third, we have had a 74 1000 and 78 1275GT on the channel recently! Both on to pastures new and the Sprite sells at auction tomorrow, it'll be a shame to see it go but it was an itch we had to scratch and it was much enjoyed. Onto the next!
I think everyone who likes classic cars should own a Mini at least once. They are great fun. Albeit I do think the prices constantly rising are a big turn off. I'm hoping to buy one in some sort of state of despair in a couple years (about when I hope to have time for another project) and build it to regulations for the Mighty Minis Championship. If they weren't so expensive I'd say they are a great "starter classic", but I think that time has long gone.

I think you’re quite right on all counts! Great fun indeed, definitely an experience any classic fan should have, and unfortunately way too expensive… if they weren’t so expensive I’d have probably have had one as a first car but I’m glad I got a Panda first as it sent me down my crazy classic car rabbit hole! But this was an itch I had to scratch for sure!
That is a lovely Mini. Despite being a mechanic many moons ago I never got to work on or drive many of them surprisingly. Great video as ever guys. Need a comparison of sorts with the new Mini you have as well now.

Thank you! We are very keen on doing a Mini vs Mini and/or Mini vs Metro video before the classic Mini goes!
HELL YEAH!! And attempt to restore one on your own KZread Channel!! or watch me fail haha!
Wonder how it compares to a cinquecento. You are the one who would know 🤗

I replaced my Seicento with this as a daily and the Mini is so much more fun and obviously gets so much more attention! Great fun and great handling, the Seicento handles speed bumps and daily duties a tad better realistically but in terms of just comparing sheer classic fun it has to be a Mini! But, if you factor in price, a Cinq or Sei are going to be a fraction of the cost too…
you should buy Beetle🤣, all these cars have soul (fiat 500, mini, DS) in Slovenia Zastava 600 fičo and are great..

I’d love to try a Beetle! We’ve missed out on a couple but hopefully the opportunity arises again in future!
Forgive me if am wrong but is your fan on wrong, fins should be curved the other way round, l know the fan design is to push the air through the radiator, so many make this mistake and put it the wrong way round.

No idea, I’ve never touched it and I no longer own the car! But I have heard that they’re very easy to fit the wrong way around!
