    I wouldn’t need the third row ever, I’ve considered this to replace my CX50. We store a lot of stuff in the trunk lol especially a massage table since my wife does mobile massage and we need all the space possible. That table never leaves and we shop at Costco pretty often. Might be most ideal for us unlike other families lol It might have more room to negotiate on price too since most people will get the CX 90.

    3rd row delete was smart. Families with more than 3 kids are very rare nowadays. So you get the utility of being able to actually store things in the back of the vehicle. This with the hybrid system design makes this extremely compelling. I might be able to afford this on the used market in 6 years.

  • @cinoclav
    @cinoclavАй бұрын

    I don't have children. At most, with friends, I would have 5 people in my car and that's incredibly rare. But I'm a skier and will often drive 2 or 3 of us with a ton of gear on 6 hour road trips. While currently driving a CX-5, those are the times I wish I had more cargo space. That's what makes the CX-70 so tempting for me. If more than 5 people are going somewhere, we can just take a second car. Folding down a third row means there's still a third row taking up valuable space. Even having removable seats doesn't work for me with very limited space to store them. Sure, I wish the 70 offered unique styling and lower pricing than the 90, but it's understandable why they did it this way.

  • @Ramoono

    The whole reason I got the 70, I have no use at all for a third row but I can definitely use the space, and I like the feel of the big car. I also understand the naming, it’s for a different audience, makes it easier to search and talk about

  • @dondonaldson1684

    That is the demographic they are going for. But price it accordingly. They are using the "remove third row option" to increase margin. There is still a path forward and that is to introduce a CX60 which is a two row, and in between the size of this and the CX50. I think they came out with this as a large two row premium SUV and didn't want to have to retool all new chassis and interior components. Mazda has to reuse as much of their designs as possible to economize. After all, they aren't the size of Toyota.

  • @adam3055

    As someone who wants a cx-70 I will explain the difference to me. First it has a sportier look nicer wheels and less chrome compared to the 90. Also I only have 2 kids so I don’t need a 3rd row. But we do take trips and have a dog so we need the cargo room. For me it’s perfect. Also the 70 doesn’t have the cloth stitching on the dash like the 90 does. Lastly getting a floor mat for the back is easier since it’s only one size. If there was a third row it would make the mat either too small or it would have to be rolled up. Anyway. Looking forward to getting one soon. Great review

    I think Mazda didn't have the funds to make a drastically different model here. They probably decided it was more cost effective to use what they already designed and just delete the 3rd row. Me and my wife just bought one and it’s just us. We find ourselves hauling large stuff from time to time and really wanted a big car without feeling like we’re in a soccer mom car. This does have a more sporty look to it compared to the CX-90 and we fell absolutely in love with the melting copper paint on the turbo s premium trim. Now, we have been eyeing down this car before the reveal and we were disappointed in it being the exact same size as the CX-90 because we did hope for something on the smaller end (CX-60 size would have been perfect), but it’s so fun to handle and doesn’t feel as big as it actually is when it comes to the driving dynamics. I know they left the cup holders in the back, which I also initially gave crap about, but I actually think they’re useful and why not? Better than open space when you already have such a large trunk. I also find all the storage space amazing for organizing the car underneath for where the 3rd row would have been. Overall, I’m really happy with the purchase (first Mazda owner) and I’m excited to see what they’ll do next with the line up for upcoming models.

    "Why would anyone buy a two row large SUV?" - AMD, I can answer that question because that's exactly what I'm going to do. My wife and I are close to 60 years old and have no kids. We do, however, have two medium sized (60 lbs) dogs. The dogs go with us everywhere so we need a vehicle that can carry two dogs crates side by side in the cargo area and still have room for suitcases, a cooler, extra dog crates for the hotel, event site, camp site,, etc. in the 2nd row (which we always fold down flat). Right now I have a minivan, but am looking for a vehicle with a nicer build, more luxury, and more tech. The next vehicle I get will be a new GX 550 (when dealers have available stock) - specifically the 2 row Overtrail trim. So, while I may not represent a large percentage of the population, just know that there are still quite a few people like me that consider a 3rd row to be a negative, even if they can be folded down. Because when folded down, the third row still occupies cargo space that I'd rather have. Oh, and as for resale value, when you keep vehicles for 10 years and 150,000+ miles like I do the difference in resale value between a 3 row and 2 row SUV is negligible.

    Me too. the two row SUVs are just too small if you want to stuff some fairly large boxes or items in the back. I have NO need for useless, tiny, uncomfortable third row that just takes up valuable storage space. You fold it down, fine, still takes up a foot or more of vertical space. I think A LOT of us want something like this. My only issue is mediocre MPG, so hoping for a V6 (smaller than usual) hybrid or a large I-4 hybrid. That said, I love my 2003 V-6 Accord, and don't want anything to do with 4cyl turbo money pits. That said, these Mazda's like so many SUV/CUVs today, to dang swoopy in back, which takes away from internal storage dimensions. Something old school Jeep Cherokee (but not a Cherokee...junk) boxy would maximize the site of items you can jam in there. I like the look of the R1S, but not really in to spendin $80k. I could buy a ginormous and expensive Yukon or Escalade or something, but the cost to own is...enough to stop ones heart. maybe 10mpg and mediocre reliability

    There is one very simple reason why Mazda saw fit to create a new model designation for the CX-90 without a third row: in the US auto market, there are almost no SUVs offered with 2 or 3 rows of seating. An automaker is more inclined to offer two different models than one model with both options.

I have been waiting for the CX-70 since I heard it was on it's way and I knew the only change would be the lack of third row. It's a thousand bucks cheaper per model designation and I don't need to spend a grand on rear seats I'll never use. Essentially Mazda has done what Audi did with the Q7 and Q8 without the downside of losing interior space to make it look sexier. If the Audi Q7 was available for less with a third row delete, it' be my choice over the Q8 too.
