Should you BUY a 2019 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 or wait for a REDESIGN?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 300 is a luxury sedan with a twin-turbo punch. Under the hood is a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 pumping out 400HP & mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. On the outside the Q50 has some beautiful lines and colors. On the inside one of the biggest letdowns it the infotainment system. Is the 2019 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 a redesign away from perfection?

This one in particular has nice body lines an great color but there is still bits an pieces Infiniti needs to catch up on. The rear end is pretty dated as well as the interior. Overall I’m not a fan of anything Nissan / Infiniti makes. This one is almost exceptional. The outdated dual screen thing makes me cringe so hard.

Miguel Ircontar definitelyyyyyy update the interiors. No heads-up display, no cooled seats, small ass screen between gauges, cheap leather, Nissan Sentra interior door handles / control buttons, TERRIBLY outdated backup cameras, TERRIBLY outdated OS and nav for their infotainment, etc. They’re just not worth the money and Nissan/Toyota have a huge issue with making their luxury brands updated to match even 3/4th’s of what Germans have to offer

Howie Choi German cars are more frequently known for reliability issues just because they’re packed full of technology and the latest of features in the car industry before American car manufacturers have time to add it. This results in premature failure of some of the systems over long periods of time. And then it’s expensive to fix because it’s a foreign assembled, which means internationally imported parts, which means $$$. I just bought a new BMW last August but I pay for extended warranties so I don’t have anything to worry about.

Btw, I had a 2014 Q50s, and I once tried that U-turn thingy Joe does in the underpass...with traction control turned off. The idea was to mildly drift the car. I soon turned traction control back on after what happened. Tires squealing all the way, the rear swung out, and I honestly thought I was going to eat the left curb. Thankfully I reacted quickly enough to counter-steer right which whipped the car in the opposite direction. I now found myself almost facing oncoming traffic. Boy was I glad I did that at night at a traffic-sparse intersection. I now shame-reversed to get back on track thankful that I didn't have to explain to my wife how I crashed the car.

I might be biased but my Q60 red sport does what I need it to- I've put mods into it conservatively and it makes GREAT power, gets a lot of complements on how it looks, and it's affordable. I can't really say I care to compare to other markets or other people's tech/advancements, if I don't have a good reason to. I'm an average Joe who wants to get to work everyday, and have a good looking, quick car in good and bad weather. This car is fine. Lol

Red Sport is underrated in power - stock pwr is more like 450 hp & 400 lb/ft torque. If you know how to launch it (brake boosting) you can hit 0-60 in 4.2 and 12.6 1/4 mi stock(w/ excellent traction NOT requiring throttle feathering..i.e. WOT). Can easily/reliably/inexpensively be tuned to 550 hp and 500 lb/ft torque. Great car! Interior is much nicer in person. Other than a couple little things the '19 is the exact same. I am waiting until a redesign to even consider getting another one. The nav looks like something from 2004, but I will say the nav has always worked well for me and gives good directions and has never frozen up on me or given me any problems. Only maintenance has been normal wear and tear. I ditched the run flats as soon as I purchased it.

I don't have it on mine, so the steering feel is really good. Fun car to drive daily. Plenty of power. Not good for long road trips due to the sport suspension, sports wheels and tires and sports seats. After a couple of hours, you start feeling the firm seats and suspension. I have one. Honestly, it depends what you value for your car. No one can answer this question except for yourself because it's all relative. Some people buy cars for the value, and the Q50s lags behind competitors in this aspect. Some people buy it for the aesthetics and uniqueness, which for me is why I bought it. Not many people have this car, so it does turn heads and I get compliments all the time. In Canada, it already comes with factory 19" black gloss wheels on the Q50s Red Sport, which makes the car even better looking (for me at least). The Q50s is also a sleeper car in it's class which gives competing cars a surprising run for their money. Obviously the main drawback is it's outdated interior and horrid infotainment system. However, I personally think it's not a deal-breaker for me as the driver since it offers a considerable amount of comfort as in any other regular vehicle for a daily driver. The infotainment system takes extra steps to navigate around and has a lot of gimmicky features that no one will ever touch after the first few months of driving it. It is a drawback, but I only use the system for Sirius XM/iPod and to see my gas mileage. Also when I need to use maps, I mainly use Google Maps on my phone instead, so no Apple Car play is a deterrent but it isn't much of a hassle to get things working.

We haven’t gotten to see a video review of it yet, but if you look at Infiniti’s pictures from pebble beach, you can clearly see the new infotainment system inside the QX80. The Q50 was at the top of the glass when it was released in ‘14, as was the G before it. I have little doubt that Infiniti will make the right moves once a redesign comes.

I really, really like the interior in my car, the 2 displays are prefectly fine though the top one could offer more use/features if one doesn't opt for navigation, auto transmission is near perfect and the 3.0Twin Turbo 6 is fantastic. 34mpg highway and 20's city.

@@darthdabs2401 believe me that I'm aware of the potential of this motor with big increases per the dollar investment. I'm just aprehensive to void the warranty with the addition of the AMS tune nissan/infiniti. I've tuned a new turbo car before and that doesn't necessarily worry me but there are some concerns with this tune.. What i don't know is once you tune this vr30 tt does the tuner device in your possession retain the oem ecu tune so you can flash back for general service, warranty work, sell the car or if encounter glitches with the tune. I have zero issues with the trans in this car except for maybe another low rpm 8th top highway gear. In sport mode it shifts fast enough 4 me and work flawlessly so far. I read early on to turn off the auto trace feature for the rear brakes to save the life of the rear pads. I will add that I'm not hard on brakes and i don't abuse them so i don't ever encounter excessive brake wear. I'm never going to a track or a road course with this car because i dont need it to do that. If I'm going to do anything to it aftermarket wise it will be the Ecutek tune and maybe Burger Tuning/AMS heat exchanger. Love the car for everything it offers stock but everything benefits from more getup and go. Purely grin factor here and there use. Car is quick as it is but 410hp and 490ish tq is perfect. I Just dont want to have this awesome car start to have issue/become quirky/any sense of unreliability by modding it. Exhaust in my book a waste of money as im not looking to enhance/gain noise, down pipes/hf catted or catless dp automatic warranty eraser and gas smell, major undertaking to remove them too. Would love the car to be able to run E85 and the perks of e-fuel but not at all enthused about tearing into the fuel tank from the interior and experiencing, cel's, limp mode, and o2 sensor issues.

chris s - because when you’re spending 57k+ on a luxury vehicle, you do (and should) expect to have the latest technology. It’s like if you bought a 5 million dollar home that has window AC units instead of central air. Especially if you can get a comparable vehicle from a competitor for a similar price that DOES have more updated tech. The question for Infiniti is, why haven’t you kept up? What else haven’t you kept up?

My biggest issue with the car is AT the 50+k tag- there is no ZF or a Nissan Dual clutch, and you have to spend thousands extra to load the packages on the red sports. Had they went with those transmissions and an apple/android auto standard at the price- damn. Talk about great.

Watching Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, and Lincoln sedans lag behind the competition after 2008 has been a great American tragedy. In the 90's and 2000's luxury was defined by extra Airbags/safety features, Leather/heated seats, noise dampening, navigation/interior technology, headlights, and expensive badges. Back in 2008 the Lexus IS, Acura TL Type S, Infiniti G37, were stellar machines that came close to beating Audi and Mercedes in marketshare. (From 2004-2008 the Made in America Acura TL was second only to the BMW 3 series). Nowadays, as the average price of cars have gotten higher, the market/government has demanded more standard safety tech and comfort for their money. Unfortunately that means that as Toyota, Nissan, and Honda give people what they want with elite luxurious trims they end up stepping on their own toes. Their brand perception suffers in way that would never happen to Volkswagon's Audi/Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW. The narratives that supported their brands, "oh infinti/lexus/Acura are just comfortable and reliable nissans/hondas/Toyotas" slowly gets eroded. However, I don't think all hope is lost, just as the Kia Stinger GT was an undeniable car with performance chops that severely undercuts BMW and Audi overpricing. Just as Porsche and Audi try their best to distance their cars as far away from Volkswagon Jetta and beetle roots. There is no reason why a 90k Lexus or 130k NSX should have an interior that is slower than a Honda Fit's even if it does speak to Honda's quality and attention to detail even on their cheapest cars.

Yea believe it or not my 2008 M45 Sport when released in 06 as a total update model ran the competition over. There are several reviews how it was better than the 5 series BMW and E class Mercedes plus the gs Lexus. That's why even know my car is 12 years old it was so ahead of its time and is still in very good condition I won't part with it. Infiniti was killing it back then and on top of that car being a hit they just released the G37 to. 👍Yea the 2000s were good times for the brand.
