Should you be worried? What does the Canva acquisition of Affinity mean?

Canva recently acquired the graphic design and photo editing software company Affinity. What does this mean for Canva and Affinity users? What does this mean in the Canva vs. Adobe debate? In this video I'll give my thought, as a Canva Instructor and Photoshop User, on the recent Canva acquisition of Affinity.
Here's a message from the Affinity CEO after the acquistion: • A message to our amazi...
And here's what Canva had to say about it: www.canva.com/newsroom/news/a...

ok, i missed this announcement. I'm paid user of both Canva and the entire Affinity Suite. And really like them both! I have seen that Canva versions quickly of late, while Affinity sorta seems in catch-up mode in the same period of time. This could be a big win for both products! Will have to watch and see.....

Yes, definitely seems like a win. Canva has said all the right things since the acquisition so it will be interesting to see how Affinity evolves and how some of that technology gets integrated with Canva.

I have photoshop, and I do teach myself some things there, because I first learned on Canva. I do use photoshop occasionally, however, I still can’t even change the color. 😂 I have to watch a video every time I need to change the color in photoshop. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️My children always laugh at me. I can do more complex things in PS, but changing the color…🤬🤬🤬🤬😂😂😂😂😂

😂 Yes, sometimes it's the easier things that trip us up. I think any software just takes regular repetition. I can hold my own in PS, but often times when I try to do something on my phone, my kids will laugh at me and have to help. I can't even begin to tell you how many accidental screen grabs I have in my camera roll. 😂😂😂

Extremely misleading title. Canva should not be compared to Photoshop but to Adobe Express. Adobe is also so much bigger than Photoshop.

Yes, I agree with you on the Canva vs. Photoshop Express comparison, but, now that Canva the company has acquired Affinity, they take control of other software ( Affinity Photo, Designer, & Publisher) that are a little bit more of direct competitors with other products in the Adobe Suite so it will be interesting to see how Canva moves those products forward. Clearly I don't think this is "the death of Adobe" (I love the Adobe Suite!) so, yes, I am being overly dramatic.....sorry, it is not meant to be misleading, it with only an attempt to spark interest and get folks to actually watch the video. cheers, Greg

A little clickbaity, yes, I'll concede that point on the title and thumbnails, although I think whenever an acquisition like this is made then the current users of the platforms involved (Canva and Affinity in this case) always do wonder what it will mean for their experience and the video was meant to be my honest thoughts on the subject. I was a long time fan of Adobe and Photoshop before I ever came to Canva (and remain so), but I do think Canva has it's own strengths and at the end of the day it comes down to user needs. Yes, for photo-editing, it's a slam dunk win for Photoshop, but most Canva users are choosing Canva for ease-of-use and their social media marketing needs, not for photo editing. With the addition of Affinity products Canva does become a little bit more of a direct competitor with Adobe so it will be interesting to see how the Affinity products evolve now that they are under the umbrella of Canva. cheers, Greg
