I’ve been “skin cycling” for over a year now, without knowing it’s a thing now. Sometimes, you just have to “listen” to your skin if it gets too crazy. It’s like starting a diet. Trial & error💜

me too! I did skin cycling without knowing the method. but i just listen to my skin and arrange the routine by myself. it worked wonders 😆🙏🏼
It’s not new. It’s simply a name/definition to a practice that has long been established. The problem is social media has made skincare laborious using way too much products causing damage to their acid mantle and not respecting the skin.

Exactly! I have severe acne rosacea (although you can't tell now) and my "exfoliation" is wrapping my cotton pad in 100% cotton sterile gauze when I use my toner. Any other exfoliation is too irritating.
I totally agree with you two. Most people, maybe due to social media trends, use too much actives or far too high concentrations on a daily basis... so their skin gets irritated. When you use the right products with an appropriate concentration you shouldn't need a "recovery". It's also the word "recovery" itself - you are recovering from things that harmed you. Your skincare should be nothing but beneficial and good for you - so no recovery necessary!
The chemistry! I’m always learning and laughing throughout Doctorly vids. So glad to hear the eyelid story again and the old folks home bit was gold lol
You guys make skincare so attainable and easy to understand. I’ve learned so much from this channel and my skin has really benefited from your advice and expertise!

I found it impossible to control my skin since I was 14 and I'm 29 now. Started skincycling and I've finally managed to control it. Not a single breakout in months, improved skin texture and overall appearance
So happy to see you together. And thank you .

SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU TOGETHER AGAIN! I just started my skincare journey this year… and naturally would alternate days…. Isn’t it just common sense to alternate exfoliation, retinal, and let your skin chill the heck out? 😅 I don’t follow this exact order. I am to exfoliate 2x a week, retinal every other day, and then on the off nights, I use copper peptides. Maybe it’s because I have sensitive skin so I air in the side of caution… but people who exfoliate every day really need a chill pill 😂❤

Great video! So fun to have you together again. I didn't know this had a name, I thought it was just having a skincare routine. I have oily, sensitive, acne prone skin. My routine includes salicylic acid cleanser two to three mornings a week. Night one is tretinoin .025, night two is peptide toner, copper peptides and CoQ10, and night three is snail Mucin, hydrating toners, and bakuchiol for recovery with ceramide moisturizer all 3 nights. Then repeat. I've been doing this for a year with great success and keeping my barrier in good shape. Hope that helps someone.

My routine for the week: Mon- tretinoin Tue- tretinoin Wed- bha&pha exfoliant Thur-tretinoin Fri- tretinoin Sat-bha&pha exfoliant Sun-rest from actives(moisturizer only) Im very acne prone with really oily skin and living in a tropical country so i need to exfoliate twice a week. This routine works for me just fine. Plus, i can easily remember what i need to do at any given day with a weekly schedule.

Gorl your retinoid IS your exfoliation.
@lui1673
Жыл бұрын
@@FVTCHANNEL98 technically, retinoids are not exfoliants. They do not slough off the outer layer of the skin but helps increase production of new skin cells. Some people with really oily skin may end up with piled up dead skin cells especially when prone to hyperkeratinization when using retinoids. Thus still developing clogged pores and acne lesions. BHA is especially helpful in this case. This step may not be necessary for some group of people though.

Great video as always. Please share some routine tips for kids skincare too. We see lot of products but not sure what to do.
Sunday nights are my off-tret nights for AHA’s, be it mask/peel, leave on product, etc.. other than that, I just listen to my skin and cut back if it’s too dry or irritated.
Dr. Maxfield is BACKKKKKKK. Also, did you guys shoot the pregnancy safe skin care routine vid? I looked in your library and I cant see an specific video on it. I know you were working on it..

Glad you found a routine that works for you! Do you moisturizer either am and/or pm? If yes, which one.
This is super beneficial, specially if you try to combine products/actives the first time and got irritated. Hydrating serum and just plain moisturizer with ceramides are really helpful to recover skin irritation. Though i dont stop with my retinoids but i avoid any other actives during the day.
Can you guys talk more about dependency in skincare? What are some signs you might see? What ingredients are most correlated with it? Thanks!!
Thank you for this video ♥️ I have been noticing on SM this new trend skin cycling and I was wondering what it was. After watching your video it turned out to be just what I was systematically doing without the recovery days and without knowing it was called skin cycling
Great content doc Edit - waiting for minimalist review
Finally ahead of a trend! Been doing this for about 2 years, though I usually do a 3 day cycle of exfoliate, Azelaic Acid (trying to get pregnant so no retinol) and then just hydrate/peptide night. Works really well for me and I know I'm not overdoing it on any one thing.

What do you use to exfoliate when ttc/pregnant?! Thank you🙂
I alternate just to fit everything in. Since a week doesn't have an even number of days I try to do a weekly schedule, currently Retinoid: M, Th, Sat; Copper Peptides: T, F & Sun; Leave-on Glycolic Acid Wednesdays.
A skin vibe is what I go by because my current understanding of skincare is to keep things simple and to be responsive to your skin by adjusting products, stress management, sleep, and nutrient dense food intake. But that's not what people want to hear, nor is that what my job in beauty retail would entail. Set routines with multiple products are great for sales, but confusing for newbies and I hate pushing too many products at once.
Thank you so very much for sharing you knowledge with us. You RoCk! ❤️
Thank you Doctors
I have sensitive skin and surprisingly I am already doing this in my routine? Day1: Ordinary BHA/Wishtrend mandelic acid, Day2: Olay retinol, Day3, 4: regular routine with laneige milky toner, Cosrx snail essence, Isntree moisturizers, and Ordinary azelaic acid. Morning: Skin&lab vitamin C and sunscreen. This works amazing for my skin.
Every time I hear about something new to me, I just search through your videos and see if you've talked about it. I heard just the other day about skin cycling and was about to tag you on tik tok, turns out I've been doing it without realising it 😅😅 You guys are amazing!❤️

Thank you! I missed you guys! ❤️❤️ At this point (I just turned 39!), I use retinol 5 - 7 nights out of the week. I skip retinol when i exfoliated or when i want to use vitamin C. i love using different products and combinations to avoid the irritation and for funs.
Hahaha this was such a good video! Very informative and funny!
Thanks for sharing you are life changing I’ve been confused for a while with moisturizer before or after if you use chemical sunscreen
I'm mid 50s with sensitive skin, rosacea and used to be prone to dry skin. Been using The Ordinary for 1 year with great results. Mandelic once a week, retinol 3x a week, other nights moisturize. Guess I've skin cycling all along who knew!
Its good to see both of the Docs together ♡ I mean if Dr. Shah's 'here we go' is not followed by Dr. Maxfield. NAH ! I ain't proceeding ahead.
good that this video is here. thank you for the explanation! Seeing the plan for 'skin cycling', and my skin has nothing to fix for, felt like it is unnecessary for me. Also I've been doing 'the trend' without knowing it all along! Like many people said in the comment, just listen to your skin! you don't need to buy many products. it will be all useless if our skin actually don't need the active ingredients from the products. Just keep your routine simple, and don't change products too many times, otherwise your skin will get irritated. happy skin caring :) !
