I would rather see the votes become public than anything else. How else are we to believe it isn't just whatever outcome benefits the awards show? It should not matter what the teams record was, what position the candidates played, or especially what the shows ratings are. The other thing I would be in favor of is the Heisman club hosting their own show. It shouldn't be all about the money. I don't bother watching the ESPN awards show anymore, because it's just a ratings focused exercise in reality TV now anyway. It's not the awards that have become the problem, it's the business of the ESPN show and the total dependence of that show to keep the trusts in business (with ESPN'S scraps.

The one that was selected wasn't even the best player that year. The Heisman ceased to be relevant in 1997.
