She was not trafficked against her will, she went there to support ISIS. The Canadians were just running an informant who informed them who had joined ISIS. There are no reasons to take her back, she should stay in Syria. To monitor here in the UK will cost millions and will go on for ever.

@@teefx5681 that is exactly the point. She willingly went to join ISIS, even though that by that time, there was overwhelming evidence of their atrocities. She committed treason and she is now paying the price for that. She is no different to any other criminal, you break the law and get caught, you suffer the consequences. The more serious the crime, the more serious the punishment. She wasn't trafficked out of the UK, she was caught on camera, multiple times, with her two friends. She went to the airport of her own free will, no one forced her to. She had two choices, pack a bag and join a terrorist organisation, or remain at home and finish school. She chose the path that she thought would bring her the greatest reward and, unfortunately for her, it turned out to be the wrong choice.

So, i don’t think the Government should have the ability to cancel citizenship, that’s a power too far. Yet also she did surrender her citizenship, so it seems to have been a choice she made. After that the core issue seems to be how we protect the British public for those that do have citizenship. I doubt we have the resources to constantly monitor individuals in the community, i’m sure the intelligence services do as much as they can, yet they don’t have the resources to monitor fully individuals. You see this when terrorist incidents have been committed by people who were known by the intelligence services, yet they simply can’t follow all threats 24/7, so more clarity as to what is in place already, does it work and, if not, what can be done about it?

I have been trying to compare Shamima Begum with Edward Snowden in terms of their present circumstances. Very different people, you might say, but to me it's a question of the contrasting attitudes adopted by their respective countries of birth. Snowden now lives freely in Moscow where the authorities have granted him permanent asylum. The US government has not revoked his citizenship and would greatly like him to return. He would then face immediate arrest and subsequent trial with the likely consequence of life imprisonment. Begum is held prisoner by the Kurdish regime in northern Syria, so far as I know. The Kurds don't like her because of her previous association with ISIL. The Syrians don't like her because, although Muslim, she is Sunni rather than Shia. The UK government don't like her because they fear she sets a bad example to other young Muslims domicile in the UK. This is despite her being a teenager of only 15 years when she made the journey to ISIL territory in 2015. In 2019 the British Home Secretary revoked Begum's British citizenship. This was considered a most controversial step which had the effect of preventing her from applying to a British court for restoration of her citizenship. Begum's family decided to proceed down the legal route, and in 2020 the Court of Appeal ruled that Begum could return to the UK to contest the government's decision to revoke her British citizenship. This ruling embarrassed the UK government into further legal action, and in 2021 the Supreme Court decided to support the Home Secretary's 2019 ruling to revoke Begum's British citizenship. This means that Begum can apply to the Court for justice over her British citizenship, but only if she can legally enter the country (which she can't). Do I hear the phrase "Catch 22" ? So what would happen to Begum if she were to enter the UK illegally? I presume she would be prosecuted for illegal entry. The UK government would like to deport her, but where to? Surely not to Bangladesh (from which her parents had come). In 2019 Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said "Shamima Begum is not a Bangladeshi citizen and there is "no question" of her being allowed into the country". If that means she would go to prison, then let it be so. So far as I know, the only English law she has broken was to depart from Heathrow in 2015 by using her sister's passport. But here is the point. It doesn't matter what Shamina believes or what she does not believe. It doesn't matter what she has allegedly done or what she has not done. She should be entitled to apply to a UK Court for UK justice. The same as any other UK citizen, the same as if she were a white, ethnic Anglo-Saxon English person. Imagine the Government's embarrassment if Shamima appeared in Court and all she received was a £20 fine! After all the years of exclusion, after all the political hate propaganda, after all the racist abuse on KZread.

A danger to western society? Really? That girl? We must be very delicate indeed if that's true. And we both know it isn't.
