Dental stuff I can understand, since trying to get an NHS dentist in some cases is impossible and if your teeth are bad (not just crooked) then the NHS SHOULD be doing the work. Actual pure vanity, cosmetic procedures, no. That is not what the NHS is for and insurance should be available for use if an operation goes wrong. Weight loss surgery is a separate matter, in that it is both vanity and health related. There are also other methods, from controlling diet, to having the jaw wired shut, to the recent use of injections. Bear in mind that the surgery options basically force you to stop eating and are risky for the very fact that you are probably severely obese to start with, since there are risks to being put under the knife.

People are examined and health histories taken under the nhs as every operation does carry a risk. And not everybody can have is done under the nhs. Only a small percentage have obesity that have other causes. Vanity has gone beyond a joke. Wilfred is right “we have draw the ,ine somewhere”. Personal responsibility does comes into it. And it’s not that more expensive to eat healthy if you shop prudently.

You are using an extreme, but seriously people should not generally get help when they choose to go abroad for surgery instead of saving up and having it done here!!

No because those people also pay tax and national insurance. You could say that about smokers or drinkers or overweight people or those who choose to work a job that's dangerous. Overweight people was already mentioned, that is the surgery they all want, don't forget to include sun worshipers if you are going to be stupid, and people who speed in cars!!! Jobs that are dangerous, seriously??? are you going to do them then, like amazing firefighters, not quite the same thing is it? You are making a ridiculous argument! 100s of people go abroad for boob jobs, bum lifts, nose jobs, many about vanity, they need to save up and have them done here or pay for the consequences themselves!! I have suffered all my life with teeth issues, endless problems, a lifetime of them and now i need a full set of dental implants, and i will not be going to bloody turkey for them, it will be this country, my health and mouth is to precious after suffering a lifetime of pain!! because despite what i have been through i cannot get help on the NHS!! Finally that doctor is being very disingenuous, healthy food more expensive my ass! A punnet of strawberries is about 2.50, and a fish and chips is anywhere from about £10-£13, she is full of crap! Take aways are very expensive and she also mentioned organic food being expensive, WTF do you need to buy organic, seriously, very very disingenuous doctor, and talked a lot of crap!!! Genetics and some medical issues make up a very small portion of people with weight issues, it is mainly people who just cannot stop stuffing their faces, and everyone knows that, but won't admit it, and before you say anything to me, i have been overweight on and off all my life, and when i decide to lose it, i count cals and get it off, end of, not easy, but willpower pays off, my responsibility to do so, if you want it enough!! enough with the excuses!!

I need a full set of dental implants due to a lifetime of teeth issues, no fault of my own, a lifetime of pain, misery and suffering, no help on the NHS obviously for something like that, and i will not be going to turkey for that, my mouth is to precious, as is my health! So i will be having it done here with a well qualified dentist at a very high cost, somewhere i can trust and is on call if there are any problems along the way, like it should be done!! How the hell do people expect with this for example to get the same quality of care for about £6,000-7,000, when in this country a full set costs anywhere between about £20,000, 30,000, work it out for yourselves, big difference and tempting we all know, but it just does not add up, sorry and no thanks!!!
