Take the best player available, even if it is a defenseman.

That's what they said they were doing last year, taking the best player, not drafting for position, and look what happened, they drafted a right shot d man, over at least 2 high-end, very talented forwards that could REALLY help this club take the next step in Ryan Leonard and Matvei michkov. People say, when will Michkov be able to even play here, IF he even can? He will be here by 2026, and Reinbacher will just be joining the team full time at that point, so we waited anyway, and passed on a high end goal scoring machine. I have nothing against reinbacher, im sure he's a great person, and hopefully he turns out to be insanely great, i would love that, i just think we missed out on what we needed most!! But Reinbacher is here now, and i LOVE the Habs, so i will have to learn to love him, hopefully he makes it very easy! Im not impressed with his last 2 years, but he has had a quick start in Laval, hopefully he can keep it up. I hate losing, but it's nice to lose in regulation, we need that draft pick.

@@toddlauretteHabsFan - If they said they were taking the best player available last year, they failed. I don't think any scouting service had him as the 5th best player in the draft. The same people who are now o.k. with passing on Michkov because of the "russian" factor are asking them to draft Demidov?? Last time I checked he was russian too, but some how they manage to make it make sense in their minds.

@@rgood1204 Im with u 1,000,000% bro. It wasn't actually Michkov i wanted tho. I really wanted Ryan Leonard, the kid's already a beast, I have seen him check people when he has the puck!! lol. And he can score, but i figured well at least if they dont take Leonard, it will definitely be Michkov, and i can live with that!!! When Carey Price said David R....R....R.... I already had smashed my brand new TV remote, i honestly would have bet that they were going to go with a forward, how could they justify going with a defenseman?? We are already stacked on D, with or without reinbacher.. This was by far the worst more the new management has made...so far. Hopefully they realize the Habs NEED goal scoring, not more D, not goaltending, goals. Montreal needs offence. It's time. Let's get 'er done!!! They say we should be competing next year, i hope so, im tired of starting the year KNOWING there's not a chance in hell we make the playoffs. It's sad what's become of this historically great team. I feel like the playoffs are so far away, it seems like it's been so long already, if we dont make it again next year... Then hopefully some heads will roll.

Just take the best player available….. If coke Eiserman isn’t there then take the D….. Trade up in top 3 or take best player available at their first pick then trade up into the top 10 and take a forward….

Both theories can be right or wrong. I definitely see value in a goal scorer but there is also value in getting a 100% bona-fide big #1 defenceman. The potential to have a top 5 dcore for the next decade is hard to ignore. If a high scoring forward is the only thing missing and you are competing at a high level the odds of sighing players goes up significantly but its still challenging for Montréal so the draft and develop argument is also strong and this draft will likely be the best opportunity to get one.

BPA always, the top 3 forwards are much better than the others, you are reaching at 6 or 7 for a forward, demidov, lindstrom and cellebrini will be off the board at 6

It depends where they think they are in the rebuild timeline. Assuming they don’t win the lottery, a forward will take a couple of years to be NHL ready. If you want to start to be a relevant playoff contender next year, you take the BPA so that you can put together a package to get an NHL ready skilled forward.

Let me put on my GM Chapeau and say the Habs should trade their 2nd 1ST round pick and include Jordan Harris, Justin Barron, Logan Mailloux (one of those Bergey stains on the organization ) and throw in Christian Dvorak for #1 draft pick (Celbrini). And open up the bank for Sam Reinhart. The first line could be Suzuki, Caufield and Reinhart with the Second line with Celebrini, Dach, Slav - this would be the promise to Dach from the GM when he was traded to the Habs - we are going to score goals. Cole Eiserman on the Third Line with Newhook & Armia. Fourth line with Anderson, Evans and Gally.

Bpa is important if drafting in the top three, maybe even top five, after that the difference becomes insignificant. This year, Habs should probably draft a forward.

Get a super forward in a trade and then pick another forward, we already have a well stocked defence as is, we can even trade a few for a great forward without hurting the near future!

I hope the Habs make a trade for a scoring forward and draft a scoring forward. As Andrew said, the draft pick probably won't play for two years at least. Trading for a scoring forward would help next year. I would offer Matheson, a prospect and a pick for a 25-30 goal scorer. That helps next year. We have defensemen on the team and in the system and quite possibly four quality goalies for the future. Get a shooter now.

It's interesting that this management group didn't know that 2024 is heavy in talented defensive prospects and 2023 was forward heavy. They did not take the best player available in 2023, so what they do in 2024 is anyone's guess.

They need a skilled forward for top 6 role. They can draft a forward ( best available) and develop them or they could trade the pick with d men for an already established top 6 guy. They should try a get a big skilled forward like the way Slaf is playing.

Here's an idea should they kee 4:48 p BOTH 1st round picks. The first one , as you said fellas ,is a no brainer. More scoring because one line teams come across to me as easier to key on for opponents. Secondary scoring: teams that have that are known to be more dangerous when they make the playoffs . 4:48 As for the second pick, if it's not traded, perhaps a guy who winds up making the Habs supporting cast better more of a role player like a bit more sandpaper or something.
