If we Filipinos can learn how to write Korean, Chinese, and Japanese writings which are not using our primary language, I'm sure we can also learn our own writing which is based from our own language. Baybayin is our identity. It is the purest identity that we have before the colonialization. We can learn and introduce this to our younger generations. We can take steps one at a time. Maybe it will take time to be fully implemented or used but we can't accomplish anything if we don't start and if we just enclosed ourselves with "what ifs."

You've heard the interviewees say the word baybayin the right way but you still say middle syllable quickly when it should be longer: [bay-BAAH-yin]. Maybe it's because of a legacy French or Arabic pronunciation pattern. You just need to practice how the word is pronounced so you won't forget the right way to say it. Baybayin was never taught to many of us born in the 1940s to the 1980s so we don't know how to recognize and draw each letter. I remember the letter K in baybayin because it looks like a horizontal and curved capital letter H. But maybe the kids that are taught it will be able to read and write it compared to us old-timers.

@@a_l7515 well maybe that's because that's what being colonized did to us. When we were colonized, they literally destroyed all of the things related to our ancestors traditions or beliefs which even includes baybayin (they destroyed and banned the use of it and deemed it "evil", so as other beliefs and traditions) One result of this is the fact that we can't provide the kind of TV drama shows that shows the life Filipinos have before colonization, because we are not sure, we have little to no record on what that life is and the artifacts we find that existed in that age are very few and won't even make a story. We were robbed off of our tradition. And even told to or "taught" to go and follow other's tradition in order to "develop" ours.

Baybayin is just one of the many scripts in the more diverse (languages, tribes, etc) pre-Hispanic Philippines. From what I read in the past, Filipinos at that time do not write with ink and paper but on bamboo leaves, husk, woods, and other materials that easily deteriorate/decay over time. Since Spanish colonizers do not want anything local to flourish, rewriting the script on new materials were nowhere to be found. Plus, probably circulating materials with foreign writings to Spaniards were forbidden/confiscated in suspicion of contents against them. The use of various local scripts naturally died and only a very few artifacts survived.

To be honest, I mastered Baybayin, I know how to read and write as I am writing in my daily life :) But I have to practice reading since I am a 10% confused with the "Kudlit", which I can't tell what letter should be pronounced. So I researched some improvisations on Baybayin. I hope this will implement in our country soon just like Japan having their own writing system, and Google will add our writing system too. Thank you so much MGN for spreading this documentary :)

12:15 yes, it's true. But I think using this script will help the Filipino people to be fluent in Filipino (not just Tagalog, but other Philippine languages as well, it can be Cebuano, Kapampangan, Bicolano, Ilocano etc), both in terms of speaking and writing, and will help to preserve and appreciate our own culture(s). Although there is 8 or more distinct writing system in the Philippines, along with other languages and their dialect, Baybayin is applicable to all of the Philippine languages due to their huge similarities. (Alphasyllabary)

To those Filipino who wants to use Baybayin Script as writing system in the Philippines, I just want you to know that we have a lot of ancient writing scripts in the country. Using baybayin as our writing system is debatable, but for me, I don't agree with that. We have a lot of ancient scripts in the Philippines such as The Kulitan from Pampanga, Tagbanwa from Palawan, Kirim from Maguindanao and more. Some of our ancient script are still using by other tribes in the Philippines. Let's just use latin alphabet to unite each island/tribe as what they should be, and introduce different ancient script around the country. P.s. That's just my opinion and you have your own opinion and Sorry for my bad English haha.

Baybayin is only one of the 16 ancient writing systems in the philippines. But other regions does not use baybayin because they have their own writing system such as surat, buhid, kulitan, etc. Mysticism and taboo is also associated with Kulitan. For a time, it was used by mystics and spiritual healers in their rituals, creating charms and talismans. It is said that curses were also written in Kulitan with the belief that the script added potency to the spells. Letters were also written in Kulitan and burnt to communicate with spirits of dead heroes and ancestors.

Just a clarification ovela - baybayin is not a language, it's a form/way of writing. Instead of using the english alphabet, we can use baybayin to write.

Im a Filipino, all i can say about the baybayin is, it should be the form of writing of Filipino, why,? Let's just have a realization, name some rich countries, JAPAN, CHINA,KOREA,RUSSIA,SAUDI ARABIA, DUBAI, GERMANY, ISRAEL, etc, what is their common denominator, they are using their own form of writing, . .they are rich, make sense???
