What's the biggest audio issue you struggle with while live?

I really struggle with external noise, how do you handle keyboard/mouse sounds while talking? I have a podmic and have been seriously debating if the SM7B would fix it since uses that but I don't know if that is my issue.

​@@Scootattles Try adding a noise gate filter in OBS! This will prevent noises that are below a certain threshold from being picked up but you may still hear keyboard sounds while you're speaking. This is buit into the Rodecaster but you can also do it in OBS. Also, any dynamic mic will help out you don't need an SM7B. I also own the Rode PodMic and love it! These things will definitly help but the most effective thing to do is reduce the source of the noise with a quieter keyboard.

If you’re interested in the midi plugin, I had to use obs-midi-mg because the other one wasn’t working with the latest version of OBS

Thanks Michael! Yeah I think they had to drop it for the smaller form factor because the Pro II has one. I wish they at least let you assign a smart pad to start the recording. Maybe in a future update!

I’ve been looking for a video like this for ages to see if the Duo will work in my setup. I’m currently using a GoXLR Mini and a stream deck to control OBS which I use for both recording gameplay and for steaming. Having multiple channels for my audio sources in OBS is a must for me. Apparently there’s a plug-in you can get for multitrack recording to a DAW but unsure if this would also work for OBS. Come on Rode, virtual audio routing please!

Solid setup! Multitrack audio has been frustrating with OBS. It's supposed to work using the ASIO plugin but I haven't got it working yet.

You can Add Both USB signals in your single PC to seperate tracks as primary and secoundary, there's also in Setting your discord or party chat under Chat Mic, Settings for OBS if you want to have seperate configeration you setup Chat Mic as Main Mic and Secoundary chat as well as primary chat, Secoundary for anything else that would include Music. this doesn't include sound pads though but can be added in configuration from setting up the mic in the Mixing and output layer so for instance your friend wants to hear the sound pads at the same time. but you still don't want them to hear any of your game mic or other settings. There's also haptic feedback on the screen in one of the settings also in the configuration for the Sound Pads you can add audio ducking as a toggle that fades in and out the sound of each audio tracks based on how loud the music is this will go down and you will still be able to hear yourself.

Yo, thanks for the idea! My biggest problem is isolating my mic track on the OBS recording. Separating the USB outputs to their own tracks helps but I still have my mic on the main mix coming from the rodecaster. Ducking could definitely help so I'll try that out!

Hello. Can you recommend an audio interface for live broadcast and dubbing? If possible, you can also give microphone advice. My total budget for the audio interface and microphone is $1,000. I don't want to spend more than I need. I'm very undecided and I can't decide whether I should buy a Rodecaster Duo style product or whether the ID14 will do the job as well. I would be happy if you help

I have the pro 2. The on/off is definitely different from Duo. Is difficult to know if I had switched on/off if I don’t look at the screen. There isn’t a click sound to let me feel that I had indeed on/off. Duo is very much like the pro2 in almost all aspects.

Basically exactly what I need. I like a clean desk setup also. However alt tab in csgo is no good. Having something physical to control the audio while in game would be a huge improvement.

Have you messed with sub mixes? For instance I'd love to be able to blast the game audio in my ears to hear footsteps in PUBG, but I don't want my chat to go deaf too.

Welcome Slayer! I'd recommend it if you need to mix multiple audio sources for your zoom call or livestream. If not, it's probably overkill.

do you have a video on how to use the pads with midi and obs?

Not sure if it helps but you can record multitrack in Audacity while streaming. I did a video on it. I have the RCP2 and it's great but most of the time I use my streamdech plus with my ssl2+ and I love that setup right now. Enjoy the duo it's a good product.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't tried Audacity but am trying to minimize the number of apps running on my PC by buying this. Similarly, I could record the multitrack audio to the SD card in the device then match it up with the video afterwards. Not sure if it's worth the complexity though.

@@JZimz going to SD card is the best bet to lower cpu usage. Wheather obs or Audacity it will be a bit more load. The main reason I use vmix over obs to stream is to have more audio control. You can't beat the routing in either wavelink or the duo to boot. I'm not in love with the gate on the rode product so I use a vst called ns1.

From watching other videos, you can route another line that doesn't include party chat, but you need to use another usb-c cable to do it. Unfortunately, I don't think @rode was wise enough to enable us to separate all audio tracks and work well in OBS and other streaming software. I did email Rode about this and hopefully a firmware update fixes this as I just ordered this device. Thanks for the recommendation and happy gaming!

My comment mentioned hopefully a firmware update will (as in the future). Right now there’s easy workarounds with software like loopback and others that route audio any way you want while using the rodecaster.

Thank you. How do you achieve that you have 16 LUFS at streaming?

I picked one of these up, and the thing I think does not get talked about enough, is it is not really meant to work (yet) like the goxlr and beacn products. Not having virtual cables to send individual apps to is a killer to me. I am making things work with two ubc cables, but that is not what most people need. They NEED to let it control the unify software which is coming "soon" . Until then, it's a great device, for podcasters imo.

One thing you point out that the lines of the faders and the screen does not match up. You can fix that if you switch to Broadcast Metering from Default Metering. The Setting is under Display > Metering and then select Broadcast. Hope that helped you. 🙂

A potential solution that Rode could implement to solve this issue is to make the slider and markers more sticky to each other + adding haptic feedback to the markers to better sense the changes.

Unfortunately, not easily. I’d recommend the Beacn Mix Create for usb mics. If you don’t already have a usb mic, the Beacn mic is really cool because it has some of the on device processing benefits I mentioned in this video

audio quaility is outstanding.. but i cant stand how i cant get this to work in OBS how i want.. i miss the virtual routing . once i spend hours dialing everything in... i dont have my party chat in my recording.. when i fix that. i lose something else.. the software in this thing is beyond frustrating with OBS

In my case,bad experience with RCPII. After six monts,brand new sending to repair in waranty. Price to high for not so good mixer. I have buy maonocaster AME2. No problem at all.

I had a Rodecaster Pro II for a few months, and I just downgraded for the Duo as it's basically the same but smaller. I love both of them, but the biggest complain I can make is that I can't assign any virtual output to physical faders. Apparently a lot of people are complaining on this issue too. I had a GoXLR Mini before my Rodecasters that could handle that case perfectly (I had to get rid of the GoXLR because it has too many software issues) and I'm really sad that there is no way to control individual outputs/apps with the RCP2 or RD. I would typically use a virtual output for samples, or hook my music app to a specific track so I can change the volume with a fader - just like the GoXLR. Yes, I could technically use the USB 2 output, but I refuse to use an other cable just to get only ONE extra output as this is a strictly software/firmware problem and it has nothing to do with a physical output. Rode said they were working on a firmware update but it's been more than one year and people are getting tired of waiting already. Making this update would literally end most competitors on the streaming market imo.

I want to get this paired with the Shure sm7b, do you need a pre amp or im fine with just the rodecaster duo and the sm7b?

No, it has a 76dB preamp built in so you don't need a separate one! I also use the Rode Podmic which sounds great if you're looking for a cheaper mic alternative.

So For my rode podmic. I will not need. Cloudfilter. If i get the duo ???? My cloudfilter makes my mic. Sound loud and clean.

Thank you @JZimz. Yes that’s a ‘no’ to buy the Duo. For a live stream or live recording I need more than one fysical fader for sounds. To fade a tune and to mix. The smart pads are great for control and quick starts. Anyways, maybe in the future Røde makes a second fysical fader for sounds possible. Then I’ll buy the Duo today. Regards, Roderick

Do you use the Twitch VOD track setup to omit your music from the VOD? If so was tha teasy to setup and does the fader still adjust the music for both you and the VOD track? I remember hearing something about post-fader options.

So I have a Duo and have been using it for a month or so, and I’ve been having issues with completely losing audio mid stream. It’s almost like it briefly disconnects, but I can’t get it to reconnect unless I completely close out of my software and restart it. It’s a huge problem for me that hopefully they fix sooner rather than later.

this issue may be a result of your usb settings in the computer, go to the device manager and check usb properties and advanced settings...

The obs-midi-mg plugin. It lets you send commands to OBS from the Rodecaster!

Just record all your audio in parallel to an SD card inserted in the Rodecaster. That will solve your multi track issue.
