67% of the Serie A is filled with foreigners playing, There are no Italian starting strikers from Juve Inter AC Napoli Roma and most of these club owners are foreign owned now. Yes, Atalanta has an Italian Striker but 8 players are foreigners on the starting 11 and Retegui is playing for a sixth-bottom team in Genoa and he was born and raised in Argentina. The League and Country needs reforms in all aspects. Gravina needs to go. Roberto Baggio wrote a 900-page thesis in 2009 about this and no one listened, I would Hire Baggio and get rid of this old guard that's stuck in the 20th century.

And what more do you need to know than the fact that the best Italian coach on the planet - Antonio Conte - is not piloting the ship? (I know that Gasperini gets high grades for developing players and Ancellotti has his strengths, but Conte does it all). The team Italy sent to the 2016 Euros was horrid - far worse than the current Azzurri - with no midfield and Pelle and Zaza as strikers! Conte never complained or publicly criticized a player once. He got that team to function like a perfectly tuned, in-sync machine and got miraculous results out of them. The discipline, smarts and organization Conte instilled was remarkable. Perhaps the Federation cabal has never forgiven him for criticizing Serie A clubs for not allowing their players enough practice time with the Nazionale. Disgraceful!

@@AD50697Conte is also one of those managers that imposes order, demands discipline, extracts work ethic from all squad members, expects the utmost of his players and gets the best out of them as a result. I like Spaletti and I do admire his tactics, and it’s understandable that he had a shallow pool to pick from. However this team had no identity or leadership. I’m not saying he should’ve played the old guard all the time. Yet it’s evident that Italy had almost no imagination or structure in build up, they were reactive and haphazard both on and off the ball, and always seemed a step behind and constantly pressurised. Spalletti should’ve taken some older heads, even if they were in bad form or moved to lesser leagues. The likes of Immobile, Insigne, Berardi, Belotti, Locatelli, Verratti, De Sciglio and Rugani should’ve been in this squad. Experience on the pitch and off the bench matters, even for the young guys, being led by wise heads counts for a lot. This entire fate of this campaign was unfairly placed on Donnarumma, Chiesa and Barella alone. :/

Currently, Italy lacks the world class players we had in the 90s and early 20s. How can you make 17 changes to the squad from the last one that won euro 2020. I believe here that Spalletti has shown the sort of incompetence that rivals Ventura's 4-2-4 vs Spain in September 2017 which put us in the qualifiers vs Sweden, where he doubled down and showed more incompetence bringing in Insigne as DM in game one, and refused to bring him in game 2. That's sabotage. If everyone but Spalletti could see his system was abject failure and he doubled down and kept rewarding Di Lorenzo for failing time and again, as fans we have the right to demand his head and that of Gravina who is protecting him. Gravina is a traitor. The press conference after Croatia, a reporter asked Spalletti about the rumor leaked that some players were picking the formation. Spalletti was visibly very angry, defensive, and did not deny the rumors, instead he confirmed them by asking who it was and saying that this person was trying to hurt the team. He confirmed the rumors essentially. Who lets the players pick? Di Lorenzo was surely part of that group. Di Lorenzo has to go, with his father Spalletti. Go away. Never return.

A: yeah, it's not surprising that their team changed a lot - and we've been observing that - and they were searching for their own identity. not for nothing, they brought in 3 or 4 new players again, again a new system. I expected everything, but not that they play 4 at back. I knew that if they play 4 at back, then we'll destroy them. we knew we'll flatten them. if they play 4 at back, then we'll let them run and that's what happened. Yakin believes Italy's revised setup played into the hands of his team on Saturday, telling SRF: "It's unbelievable what's going on here. We've enjoyed ourselves in every stadium. Big praise to the fans. "I knew if the Italians came with a back four, we would destroy them. Then we would let them run. "Dan [Ndoye] closed down the midfield. His man, [Stephan] El Shaarawy, hardly saw the ball." If everyone else could see it and Spalletti could not, then he is not fit for the job. If Spalletti could see it and refused to adjust, then he is not fit for the job. Either way, he is not fit for the job and should not only QUIT NOW, but leave Italy.

Yeah but how do you justify 11 players switching off for 3 games? Like it's one thing if a few players aren't pulling their weight, but after Albania, it was like mass collapse for all the players except maybe Calafiori. I can understand one game, maybe everyone is tired, but 3 games in a row, what's the reason for EVERYONE just being absent? In all seriousness I think that's the issue that needs investigation. Is it morale? What is it about the game in Albania that made us look so different? Spaletti in his interview said folks were tired after Croatia, which is why he decided to make so many changes. But still the team looked dead against Switzerland. I DO NOT think it is about natural positions. The team was solid against Albania. Something else is going on.

1st off Switzerland is no pushover and an exciting team to watch. But Italy own them. Yet Italy looked Lichtenstein. Seriously so disappointed and shocked. It was like they were trying to lose. With FIFA Uefa wouldn’t be surprised if it’s mostly rigged. But my main gripe is with players like Scamacca. He was completely worthless. They’d be better with 10 men. Don’t ever call him up again unless he scores 49 goals in a season. DiLorenzo was horrible. El Shar even being on team was insanity. Might as well brought Immobile. Chiesa can’t do it all. He needs players to feed the ball and be fed the ball. And my main gripe is we had the easiest route. Spaletti got it all wrong being handed a 2nd chance lifeline and we could had at least rematch with England. and maybe we could have scraped to finals. Even if every match went to pks

FIGC is not serious about winning or plain deluded if they think Spalletti should remain in charge! Inzaghi is the best option for Azzurri, even De Zerbi would get the team to attack, as we know we will always be great on 1-on-1 defending. Play the U 17/19 guys that won their title, it's time to unleash a BOLD vision and get rid of the deadwood like Cristante, El Shawwarey, Pellegrini, Darmian, Di Lorenzo, etc

Spalletti is a stubborn man, supporters of both Roma and Inter remember well, and insists on certain ideas even if they prove wrong. He is a good coach for a ligue setting but not for Euro/World Cup setting (his history in European club competitions is terrible). On top of that his excuses after the loss against Switzerland were plain BS. The players knew Spalletti plan was bad and also were not motivated. Also stop talking about "Inter block", that just lame from people who don't know and shouldn't talk about football. Please fire him and Gravina too...

I reckon sack. Based on the group stages I wouldn’t say sack, but that knockout game, the way he set up the lineup, terrible tactical approach, the way they played, the players looking so scared and without ideas. It’s the worst Italy has ever looked in a knockout match. I don’t think there is any coming back for that and the coach should take on responsibility Also it’s funny you guys were very hot on spalletti using 4-3-3 for the game but that turned out terribly. He should have gone with 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 which both worked much better in the pre tournament friendlies, and even looked better against Croatia. Buongiorno should have started sweeper, darmian Right centre back, Bastoni left centre. Use Bellanova as right wing Cambiaso left. Play the players in their normal positions!! If he really wants Di Lorenzo keep him right wing, but he didnt deserve to start. Inzaghi did play frattesi and Barella together, but barely. When it happened Barella moved to LCM and frattesi subbed on RCM. I also have massive issue with the selection for the squad, why was 10 goals Orsolini overlooked? I said it at the start and I’m sticking by it. We have better players who were left out for no reason in my opinion. 27 year old Orsolini with more speed and cutting edge would have added much better attacking threat than 31 El Sharawaay for example.. the only reason I can think is El Sharawaay probably can defend better and play as a wing back if needed, but seriously Italy lacked attacking threat and we needed a player like Orsolini at least off the bench to make a big impact

Main point: the team is not strong, and the players behaved like spoiled brats. Spalletti, however, played almost all the players out of position. He never had an idea about the game system, he confused the players who eventually mutinied. Especially those of Inter who wanted to play like they play at Inter. This is demonstrated by the likes that some Inter players gave to some posts by journalists critical of Spalletti.

Spalletti didn't manage the team well but this performance is on the players. It looked like they were happy to leave Germany with a participation ribbon. The problem runs deeper than the coach or team selection. Italy is not the power nation it once was and hasn't been for a long time, since before the 2010 World Cup and things will not get better until things change in Serie A. The development of Italian players has been an afterthought for a long time in Italy. Clubs give more chances to players from other nations rather than Italians and the task of getting Italians to the first team has fallen largely to the smaller clubs and then those players don't get tested at the top level consistently. Juve has started to change things the last couple of seasons, Milan has 1 Italian starter and they are trying to replace him, Inter ironically has the most Italians of the top 3.

That's what happens when your coach keeps abandoning ideas and scripting failure. How do you justify leaving a culprit of four goals on (Di Lorenzo) essentially rewarding failure and taking off your hero (Zaccagni) for a bench warmer at Roma? Who does stupid stuff like this. He lost the room. His ideas were contradictory. He found a formation that works, then abandons it. Players were split in the dressing room because he was allowing his favorites to call the shots. Loser all around. Teams need to form a GROUP. Zambrotta said that was key to Italy's success in 06. Spalletti split the group in two. That's how awful he is. The players need to play with heart, sure, but how do you have heart for a traitor like him?

I think Spalletti is just scared to make difficult choices. He knows that he must take on tournament overhyped players like Chiesa, Scamacca or others. They were part of the team before his appointment but also big names home. Maybe he would even want to again take players like Immobile Veratti or Berrardi but its not popular with Italian fans and it would be taken as bad decision and step back. Looking on for example Calzona in Slovakia who can make miracles from 37years old players like Kucka. Nobody wants to go back I get it, but they should be part of the squad regardless. You need to have that veteran mentality as option from bench. Another one is Ragnick who is making this Austria team full of older players look like well oiled machine Also friends with everyone will not help this team thats for sure (example of Di Lorenzo) I would probably keep him but something needs to change in his decisionmaking. But we should also not forget to be critical of the players too. Honestly I would blame them more than Spalletti. They looked like bunch of guys from Saudi League who only got Italian citizenship yesterday.
