Should I tell my employer that I have dyslexia ?

In this video I discuss whether or not you should tell your employer you have dyselxia. I cover the pros and cons and my personal experience. If anyone has been discriminated against for having dyslexia, I'd love to hear your story!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I am 41 years of age and I found out two weeks ago that I have dyslexia. Like you, I am also working in a bank :) and I was undecided about telling my employer until i watched your video. I have to say I have had a lot of negative thoughts over the last two weeks, ( I was never really one for asking for support) but I have decided to let them know. Thanks again, I really appreciate it from Dublin, Ireland.

it be like that sometimes honestly depends on the person you are thinking of telling whether you think they would be accepting or not. my employer would say nah and sack me lol

Thanks for that. I am a Chartered Accountant working in a West End accounting firm. I have been working for my current firm for almost a year and have not told them that I am dyslexic (for matters most of us here understand). I don't know whether I should...but your video is convincing and maybe it would be best to just embrace who I am and f*** the haters.

Don't feel embarrassed. There is alot of us dyslexics out there, find them and connect with them if you can. Most of us have some pretty good strategies for hiding our dyslexia. It's only "disability" to the nuerotypical persons because they have no clue who we are and how smart we are.

My advice: don't do it, don't tell your employer. They "the employer" have no clue what you are or what dyslexia really is.

just started a new job and I’m afraid to tell my employer that I have dyslexia. I’m a service maintenance worker for a large private property company and their is a lot of writing. Either to keep records or write a letter resident. I managed to slip on bye for a couple days but I’m afraid if I tell them I’m going to be let go.

Don't tell anyone. You are a; "nuerodiverent" individual and most people around you are; "nuerotypical" or i like to call them "radom access memory trivia pursuit flash card persons." They remember a lot of "facts" but hav extreem difficulty connecting the facts and find patterns which we dyslexics do quickly on a daily bases. We find the logical connections were our nuerotypical associates suck at it.

My advice; never reveal you have dyslexia especially to you employer and especially if you work with students in a school settings. Your employer is the school principal and most not all principals or administrators have never experienced what you go through on a daily basis. Remember(very important) administrator are concern with two things 1. Money and 2. Politics. If your interfere with that perception your in trouble.
