As a merchant you also have to take it into consideration that you are basically paying for the consumers rewards on the credit cards they are using during purchase and the convenience of a credit card. Around 13% of the country actually use cash and consumers know that.

Very helpful. I just think it’s crazy that I always feel like I’m paying the extra fee whenever I purchase anything but now that I’m a business I don’t get that luxury. I feel like “why can everyone else do it but I’m being told it’s not a good idea”.

Hey, I work with a company that allows you to do this, is that something you're still interested in doing?

If I have to pay tips to substantiate the salary of servers and also a fee for using my credit card then the tip gotta go. They are going to end up losing somehow. I will not buy in places that pass this surcharge.

that's a bad take. if your average sales ticket is well into thousands that's a lot to 'EAT'. ive had to pay a $2k processing fee once on a invoice because client chose to pay by card. I think its fair to a degree but when the numbers get bigger are you still willing to EAT that cost?

if you pay me cash, I don't charge you a fee. simple. why should I "EAT" $12,000 annually as the cost of doing business?! thats a used boat, thats a real nice vacation , every year you are "eating" . we give the customer the option and inform them upfront, and show them the ATM. they don't care. it's an extra 12 bucks.

Look at it this way….you charge me a credit card fee ….i may just drink my coke and leave with food and never return to your place. I think it is better to make everyone pay the same but give cash customers discounts. Most people pay with card which is probably why the credit fee is better for you. That way you make money swiping cards instead of providing a service or feeding people. I am on to you cc fee folks! It’s an easy way to add a good 1-2% to your bottom line without doing anything extra.

gas stations all have a cash price and a credit/debit price. the banks are stickin it to the merchants that is why they have the two tier pump price. i am sure other businesses will do the same.

@Walter Peebles Not where I am... I've never seen that until filling up in the USA. I live in Canada and traveled many countries on 3 continents. The USA is the only place I've encountered this 2 prices for gas. A card is the price of doing business for a vendor. They tried pulling a surcharge on cc payments here, and it never flew because of out cry. Customers said they would use cash, and this scared vendors who considered how inconvenient and risky it was to deal in 75% cash.

@@good2goskee us banks are notorious for their fees. i once had a payroll check from wells fargo; and they insisted i pay them 5,00 fee on a check drawn from their account. since i did not bank with them. i told the clerk that is why i no longer have an account with you guys; i bank where i do not have to pay all these stupid fees.

@@walterpeebles295 Why did you not go to your own bank to have the cheque cashed or deposited? I would expect there would be no fee.

@@good2goskee well it was friday afternoon and i was right across from a wells fargo branch. So, I thought i WOULD SPARE THE 30 MINUTE DRIVE and just pop in to the wells fargo and cash the check since it was drawn on their bank account. Apparently, that is how they have grown so large by nickel and dimeing people every chance they get. The government has fined them for other stuff, they use to be a good bank; then they turned rogue. eh! Then, the banks want a bail out from gov't (us taxpayers) when they screw up! livin in the usa, i am planning on moving overseas in a year this country is turning upside down. cheers
