Regarding the alligator clips, I bought some more alligator cables in order to have more short ones, to reduce the cable mess. These new ones I bought accidentally had a slightly larger size of the clip, which makes them much much more easy to use. I recommend to look around to buy some additional cables. They are very cheap as well, 10-15 cables for €5 or so. Some additional tips: 1) If you want a channel to play continuously, put it in rec mode and hold the "ADD" button for a whole cycle of the sequencer (you can make the tempo really fast to speed up this process). Then the channel will play permanently without using any clips 2) You can slow down the LFO even further if you take the +10 volt and send it through the inverter and then modulate the LFO frequency. 3) If you want reverb on the whole mix, but also want to use delay on one or more channels (or the other way around), take the "OUT" of a channel and patch into the "DLY" in, then take the "DLY" out and patch that to one of the four attenuators. Then send the attenuator output to "MIX IN". Now you can blend the delay to your liking. 4) The diode circuit and the circuit bending pin does really cool stuff, don't forget to experiment with that! 5) Don't sleep on the Distortion, it does amazing things :D I often use high Drive with a low amount of mix to blend it in nicely.

I had exactly the same experience with the Pulsar 23. I tried to gel with it for 6 months as I know some gear can take a while to fall in love with (I nearly sent my Lyra 8 back but after spending some time with it, I fell madly in love with it) so I gave the Pulsar a lot of dedicated attention to see if it grew on me. Unfortunately it didn't so I sold it (at a loss). The clips really got on my nerves after a while. I would spend ages building up a patch but it was frustrating to have to un patch it all if I wanted to start afresh. It is an incredible and powerful beast but it wasn't for me. I'm looking at the Perkons now as I like to improvise quickly on the fly but again, it's very expensive! I'm not sure

The Perkons is a great instrument but the sounds were a bit too limited for me after a while. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to know if a device will fit our taste and workflow before spending some time with it.

The litmus test is determined by these questions. Will it help you make the music you actually want? Is it fun and inspiring to play? I'm of the philosophy that if it doesn't meet this criteria, no matter how cool or novel, I will not keep it.

@@Kablehead Pulsar 23 does retain it's value so you won't be loosing any money. You could always record some samples/one shots before selling in case you have a hankering to add the pulsar sound in whatever your future compositions may be.

Really enjoyed the ambient track, a wonderful mood. But perhaps it is something which your skills could squeeze out of other machines just as well? After a while I think those crocodile clips will drive you nuts. The plastic covers slip around and just from a tactile sense they're awful to handle. And what a mess.

Hello, well done for your videos, i feel in a similar situation as yours but for a different reason i wonder if you can help me solving a problem, i just bought a Pulsar 23 black like yours I wanted to ask you: if it's normal that every time I use Midi from Digitakt, CV from Eurorack or simply the trigger of the internal loop I can hear some quite annoying clicks, especially when the 4 voices are triggered together, if I start with a voice like the BD or the bass voice and I keep the volume down of the other voices I can hear all the clicks in the background of the various notes or triggers, then if you turn up the drive and the mix of the distortion becomes almost a constant sound in the background of the various triggers, it really bothers me, I don't know if mine has a problem or if it's just like that if this was normal I think I'll return it because it's really strange, so for me even if the alligator clips are not so pratical to use the problem i am having with it makes it difficult to keep for me Soma support told me that is a normal behaviour of the Pulsar, but i am also asking around so i can find out. Thanks and congratulations again for your videos. Fabrizio

Thank you. I sent mine back but i remember that i could hear the clock divisions and other modules ticking in the background. And from what i read in other forums the Pulsar isn't very quiet and always has some noise and clicks in the signal. I guess it's the analog nature of the beast.

Alligator clips are a no go for me, you could make a cooler modular drum beast for the same price. You could get Erica Synths LXR Drum Eurorack Module (similar to perkons hd-01 sounds, with patch morphing), and two Erica Synths Sample Drum Sample Recording and Playback Eurorack Modules( 4 total sample tracks) a powered case and some cables and still be well under the Pulsar-23. The ambient drone sounded cool though.
