Was never a fan of convertibles but I recently developed a bit of an obsession for this car. Always find myself on autotrader looking up different SLKS.

Wish, I had the money for a newer more expensive SLK. I just bought a 06' but I'm still Blessed and Thankful!

As a convertible owner I feel I am well placed to answer this question. The way how I see it, if it's above freezing and it's dry, the roof is down, end of. I've driven my my MX-5 with the roof down when it's frosty - true story lol.

I am driving my bmw with the roof down all year long, Being in Greece winter isn't that cold anyway and rarely rains, but I never drive open top in the city, it's too loud, crowded, and polluted. Buy the convertible you like and you'll never want to drive a normal car again, It's way too fun, especially driving fast at a nice road by the sea!

I love my bmw 335i cabrio, but lately I am interested in a new Merc convertible with air-matic, because most of the roads here are badly made and thus the ride is a bit uncomfortable for sports cars with a stiff suspension. I really like your SLK too, although I need more than 2 seats for my family so I am looking at a C class. England has amazing landscapes and nature, so I am sure you'll have a great time there with your new convertible, Have fun and drive responsibly!

No windscarf (it blows hot air on your neck) and no rear defuser to keep air from coming in the back and making it much calmer. My SLK has these things and you can drive in cold weather no problem with the side windows also up. Most SLKs have these options.

Mine has the sport suspension, but I would go with regular suspension next time for comfort. Get the killer upgraded stereo system. If you like it half as much as I like mine you will be a happy driver!

@tacfoley I bought the 981 Cayman GTS, still need to create videos with it. Absolutely love it! Still tempted by the 4C though 😈

I drive my BMW with the roof down when it’s about 12 degrees or more. Heating up and heated seats on its perfectly fine. Also you should have put the windows up, cuts down on the wind!

Nice! I never know when’s the right time. Which country are you based? I can’t work out if it’s a UK thing to take the roof down before it’s warm enough. Definitely right on the window point! 👍😂

As an Mx5 owner I usually drive with the roof down at every opportunity (recall arriving at work with frozen cold head in winter on morning Ha! Always wear a hat?) Now looking at the Mercedes after 19 yrs of Mx5 use. (Mk II 1998) still looks new. Like the front grill, Pano auto roof on these and the sports feel of the Mx5 is not that much needed these days.

I have a 250 SLK nice ride ever thought MB is stopping production of these cars by what I have read !

No air scarf??! Who specs an SLK without it. It’s its USP! Deflector would of helped too and Windows up at high speed for extended time. I have owned an SLK for past 6 months and love it. Wouldn’t have bought one without the air scarf though. Try one with it and feel the difference. Happy driving!

Harmz Lewis it’s economy. First thing I do is put mine in sports mode when I get it in. Car is a different animal!

Good choice! You won’t regret it, lots of extra little features and a real head turner for the budget. I can’t speak specifically for the 250 diesel but the one we drove went on a long journey and was pretty similar fuel wise to a well equipped Alfa Romeo saloon, if that gives you an idea of mpg?

No windbreaker between the headrests no wonder it's so draughty. Dopes.

@@MattPerry yea, definitely comfortable. The journey here was six or seven hours and had no problem :) engine reliability seems good it’s the roof mechanics and other cabin features which tend to glitch a bit after a while. Are you considering one?

buy a car with heated seats air-scarf and wind deflector windows up heater on full = not cold in January in the snow

Where's your wind deflector?

Boggo base version no Airscarf.

Put ya windows up when driving fast , it cuts out all the cold breezes.

Hello there, I ride a Suzuki gsxr 750 super sport. At the moment im looking for a mx5, z4, slk or a jag xf , im thinking the jag is more refined and practical.

Yes, the Jag is more practical but apparently costs quite a lot when they go wrong. I know quite a few MX5 owners and they're certainly the most affordable if they get a problem. Personally I'd go for the SLK or the Z4 as the German cars are both great drivers cars and have solid reliability but that's just my personal opinion. Nice bike, fast as anything! Do you currently have a car as well?

The other way to compensate depreciation is to buy one 5 years old. They don't fall apart and are less than £15K

@@UKCarReview I am looking. I have a Renault Zoe ZE40, great but I had a convertible before it and miss the open air. I test drove an SLK a few days ago. It was fun but feels a bit like the stone age and I feel guilty thinking about petrol power again. £13k for a 2014 with 35k miles though. Did you get to use the headlights, I have been told they are lacking? Thanks for the video - really good. It is never too early to put the roof down but you need a wind deflector.

Yea I’m with you on the electric side of things. Feels backwards to use petrol and there’s actually a real lack of convertible EVs, coming to think of it. That said, my weekend car is 981 Cayman GTS so I do appreciate the situation. I think the i8 roadster is the only sort of EV (although it’s a hybrid) which is convertible. I guess a TT roadster is the other alternative for you, right?
