Honestly, if the variants are what brings you joy, go for it. The ultimate variants supposedly will only ever be token purchases, whereas even the big bad Galactus/Thanos _may_ eventually drop in series (or drop from a cache).

It might be optimal to buy Thanos and galactus in order to collect every card, but if you stop playing because you don't have fun cards, then you would have never completed your collection anyways.

Hands down most thorough treatment of this topic I've seen. Massive props to you and awesome video. Really helped me consider what I'm going to do.

This will be very helpful to lot of newer players. I got away with buying Shuri first day token shop came up and being at CL1000. But ever since I only brought series 3. A mix of fun in grind is necessary so don't sweat too hard about collection and keep tinkering with every new card you get.

Excellent guide Collins. You are absolutely right that circumstances (collection level, luck in getting the core series 3 cards) matter in the approach players should take.

This advice is so well formulated. Remember the game is so much more fun when you get to play it rather than being "optimal" and having good card/deck options makes playing it so much more fun. The one time I stayed from this strategy was I bought Luke Cage early on (before knowing series drops were definitely even happening). It wasn't optimal, but I got at least a month of good game play out of it.

Almost done Series 3! (7 cards left) I’ve spent all my tokens on S3 cards and no regrets. I played with Destroyer and Sera for months and had a lot of fun with the game. Even the ones I kind of regret (looking at you Leader) got me closer to S3 complete. Now I have Shuri pinned and I’m ready for those sweet sweet tokens to start rolling in. 😂

Similar situation here .. I am 8 cards away from S3 completion and should be complete at around CL3150 (This take into account the S4 card I will be opening soon). I was lucky enough to pull both Galactus and Knull on the CL track so got DH pinned right now (Not interested in Thanos)

Shuri just got demoted to Series 4 this month, so its going to be Series 3 in another 2 months. My question is, why not start saving tokens for Galactus, and just wait to get Shuri naturally? By the time you reach pool 3 complete and save 6000 tokens, Shuri will be in pool 3 and you can open it for free. I think tokens should be spent first getting all the Series 3 cards, then getting the Series 5 permanents like Galactus, Thanos, and eventually Kang the Conqueror.

Your videos are incredibly insightful and are greatly appreciated! I've been tuning in while I do other things. I've spent all my f2p tokens thus far on Series 3 cards, thinking it's the best value, but it's crazy to see by *how* much! I've recently purchased the whale Mr. Negative bundle and plan on getting the Birthpool bundle as well, just because I've pinned Thanos in my shop and unlocking him so soon will be sweet. I agree on the point that he and Galactus are really the only worthwhile Series 5 unlocks since they'll never drop in Series. I'm a bit over 50% Series 3 Complete and I think it's worth it since I already have a ton of the cards Thanos adores.

Best decision I made was to complete Series 3. Now, every month, I'll have the best token acquisition and will be able to mop up the remaining Series 3 cards going into the next season. Any Series 4/5 cards I luck into will be a bonus.

Do u spend ur tokens to get series 3 cards? Right now i have 2k saved up and currently pinning thanos. (I am 25 pool 3 cards away from complete ) But i have most of the key series 3 cards like aero mystique etc. The ones i might need are probably wave, spiderman, or perhaps rockslide (i opened dhawk)

@@rG1vZ Yeah, I only buy Series 3 cards. I completed Series 3 just before this season dropped when I spent my last 1000 tokens on Luke Cage. It's been a week into this season and I've already accumulated 3300 tokens on the Collector's Level. If you're trying to save for Thanos and you're still 25 cards short of Series 3 it's gonna take a long time.

Helpful video - I feel like the developers have me right where they want me. I'm missing about 29 cards at CL1950 from series 3, have all the "premium", (everyone in your top 6 tiers besides daredevil, absorbingman, magik, and mojo), I still have a card or two away from each "optimal" decktype, like no psylocke for Negative, no Venom for destroy, no Hela for discard etc. I feel like I have 90% of like 7 decks, and I'm getting worked on ladder by people who have all the core combo pieces. Definitely gets me to want to buy tokens and get the few I'm missing, even though I could start saving now

Meta is dominated by Zabu, Surfer, and Shuri. Negative, destroy, and discard decks arent going to be able to compete with that. Only deck that can take that on is Lockjaw.

My man dropped the whole math calculation bomb! I had Shuri in my shop for over a month now, trying to collect the tokens... But after seeing the numbers, definitely futile. Even though I have a decent amount of Series 3, it makes more sense to finish 3 and let that Shuri go for now. Glad I found this video by way of your podcast with Alex from his channel. Great video Collins , thank you a lot for the detailed breakdown , I was actually concerned about the right approach , Shuri is in the token shop to tempt me to buy her I need to be strong 😅 , I am only collection level 910 . I've bought till now with tokens only Sera , cuz I was already having Mistique , Devil Dinosaur , Death and Aero , so went well with my playstyle . If it comes to the token shop before I get her from the collection maybe I will go for She Hulk , for more of a punch in turn 6 . For the fun factor I go for Agent 13 and sometimes Nick Fury to not get bored playing again and again the same cards , plus you never know , sometimes it gives you a series four or a series 5 card . I agree , I will focus only on important series 3 card in the future till completion . Thanks again .

This is such an incredibly thorough video. In my experience: I saved up my tokens from the day one release of the shop. The thing was, a good amount of people were just starting to get into the game. At least, playing the game didn’t feel as oppressive as it does now with the current metas. Kind of like when Apex Legends first came out; now it’s sweaty A F. I feel blessed because I was able to get She-Hulk as soon as she dropped! Then way later on I had enough to get Death and a couple other series three to compliment that. Now I’m looking at the three big bads - Thanos, Galactus, and Kang (assuming he’ll be good). This token system must feel so oppressive to people just getting into Marvel Snap 😅 It feels bad to me and I’m over the hump! Edit: I have NOT completed Series Three yet

The first card I had in shop after hitting cl 500 was Galactus. Didn't pin, and as I learned more about the game (from reddit memes, motly) I regretted not pinning, as it seems like a top tier card. But after watching this video the regret is gone, and feel more informed, and will focus 9n series 3 for a bit. I'm still a newly, cl 650ish, but this video helped alot. Thanks

As a new(ish) player (CL 856) this is great advice, as I'm planning to but the Mr Negative and Deadpool bundles, which means I will have enough tokens to buy Series 5 cards (and in fact I was planning to buy The Living Tribunal as soon as it gets released because the effect looked interesting to me). I'll focus on finishing series 3 first instead (I was already extremely lucky with the drops, I already have Wong, Wave, Red Skull, Cerebro, Mystique, Kilmonger, Green Goblin, Death, The Hood, Mr Negative...) and then start looking for series 4 and 5 cards.

If you have enough Gold for both bundles, get both. But if you don't, focus on getting only Deadpool bundle. Mr Negative bundle, though comes with a bit more tokens has worse value overall.

I listened to all of the advice telling me to only spend tokens on s5 cards, and I instead used most of them to speed up finishing s3 anyway (mostly picking big archetype or support cards like Aero or Mystique). It feels good having all of the s3 cards for different deck metas, and it's great that cards going from s4 > s3 I open immediately, plus it felt miserable opening 100 tokens every four caches. I've been s3 complete for about a month and I just bought Galactus, and honestly I regret it more than any of my s3 purchases. I don't like the type of gameplay it requires, and too many opponents just counter it, and weirdly I feel more pressure playing it than I do other decks, probably because it was such a big purchase and I feel like I'm playing it wrong and wasted my tokens. One weird thing I feel is that by artificially boosting my CL via bundles and tokens, have I made the game harder for myself? I seem to be running into opponents who are playing at a much higher level than me or have better decks (like constantly playing infinite players or players with the zabu darkhawk deck the last few weeks of last season, even though I was low 70's for most of the season and finished up at 80, and immediately in the current season I was facing the same opponents even though I dropped to 50 and they must have been in the 70's).

You named my exact scenario at the end. Hit Sauron in a chach, have all the other big ticket series 3 pieces and am jonsing for shuri. Have her pinned but need 1000 more tokens. Waiting is no fun

Good advice! It's killing me because I'd like to use Shuri and Darkhawk, but I'm not going to buy. I'm hoping I open one or both now that they are series 4. I'm at collection level 3100, and I managed to open one series 5 in that time, and I'm thankful it was Thanos. He's fun, but hard to use for sure. Those stone clog up the locations even if you are playing him in a destroy deck. Galactus is the more powerful of the two perma-series 5 cards, if you really wanted to buy one. I'm with you, EC, I wouldn't buy a series 5 card unless you are past series 3. I'd maybe consider a series 4 if you are near the end of the 3rd level and only have "bad" cards left.

11:00 also if we want to be value goblins you can just let a pool 4/5 card decay for maximum value, so you can mentally flip this in your mind and get started buying pool 3 cards. Realize that by letting a pool 5 card decay from 6000 to 1000 you gain (a penny not spent is a penny earned) +5000 tokens in value.

I'm at CL700, went for She-Hulk and Death as my first 2 purchases, looking at Aero and Wave as my next 2, and I should be good to go for quite a while.

My 2nd CL card was Cerebro. My 3rd was Magneto. The next day Mystique pops on the shop. The day right after Aero. Of course I bought both. Been rocking mostly a C2 and have 0 complaints about it. Now I'm just watching to get Brood and Goose, the 1st one that gets on the shop I'll buy and the 2nd I'll pin up to buy as soon as I get another thousand tokes. Crippling yourself from cards that would complement your track cards is just a bad decision, IMO.

Preach. I made the mistake of getting Shuri once I hit pool 3. Getting to 1000 has been interesting. It's like playing with a handicap.

I got to cl 600 yesterday, and the first card that appeared in my shop was Sera. I bought her instantly and I think I made a good choice. Now I'll wait to get something like death, as my second pool 3 card was wave for some reason.

If you aren't series 3 complete go ahead and buy some to get there. That's what I did I currently only need Titania to be series 3 complete now. I also just pinned Galactus in the token shop. I don't suggest buying series 4 but 5 is fine if you have the tokens.

Well, my strategy is to buy all the tier 3 cards from the shop when there were only few missing to complete pool3, cuz you gain way more tokens once you've done it. I bought all the bundles with tokens and the pro booster btw. Now I'm at 3100 with no pool 5 cards, 6 pool 4 cards including those ones from battlepass, and 5600 tokens left to buy the Galactus. Ps: I started playing on early Nov 2022 from the very bottom and never spent any gold on the credits, variant only.

Even though I'm glad to acquire Thanos from the token ship but at the same time, I sort of regret it because at that time, I worked on completing my series 3 collection. If I had used the 6000 tokens for 6 series 3 cards, I probably completed the collection by now. Great video 👍🏿

Yeah I kinda figured out for myself being series3 complete is much better just because of the deck building options. I just want to be on the same boat of just waiting for series drops at the end of the month being series3 complete means you don’t really care about reserves anyway since getting cards then is like a series4/5 every ?? amount of reserves.

Theres no pity times on Series 5 cards like there is with Series 4. With pool 4 cards, youre guaranteed a Series 4 card every 40 reserves/480 CL. Theres no guarantee you'll get a Series 5 card even in 400 reserves. That player who posted on Marvel Snap discord that he reached the max CL at 22,000 said he never opened a single series 5 card the whole climb to max, even though the math means he should have gotten one every 4800 CL. So just keep that in mind as a pool 3 complete player.

Prob my most likely advice is to just get the deadpool bundle, don't stress it out and use to 1500 to continue getting good series 3 cards. I do think Shuri is an amazing card but prob in 2-3 months it should drop down so in your position i think it's just fine to focus on series 3 for now and then save your extra gold for better bundles in the future with just the dealpool bundle purchase.

Listen to this guy. I spent the 6 on Darkhawk a few weeks ago, and I regret it, lol. I don't even have the support cards. I only have about 20 series 3 cards.

Almost done with Series3 and was waiting for Shuri to drop down, but I lucked into a Knull pull so I untagged her and am waiting for Galactus. I am saving Gold for a good bundle with Collector's Tokens. It does sort of suck although I got enough good pulls for good decks. I'm sure they will nerf Galactus after I get him though.

I got the starting 6000 with the token shop added, then immediately got offered thanos and bought it. I can confirm collins is right, it sucked for a solid month afterwards just trying to find decks to play while missing aero, magneto, etc

If you are F2P or only buy the season passes, I think this makes sense. If you are buying bundles with credits for $, you can speed your advance through Series 3 and feels a lot better to save the tokens IMO.

I am 10 cards away to complete series 3 at the moment. And I have 2100 tokens. I don't need any of the 10 left. I'm excited to be able to purchase those series 4 and 5 cards

My first card was She Hulk and I've barely used the card since. Mind you, at the time she was mostly used in Deathwave/Baero decks and I didn't have all the required s3 cards, then by the time I did, Leecher was the meta so Baero was bad to play, and then we had surfer and zabu. I think now they're nerfed, Baero might be viable again so she might finally get some play, but of course in the meantime she dropped down to s3 so I would have just opened her without spending tokens.

It's so tricky to decide what card to buy. You can't know in advance whether or not you will enjoy a particular card or new playstyle. For example I bought Dracula the other day ( 1300 CL) and was able to complete the Dracula Lockjaw Discard deck. My first ever complete netdeck. However after playing the deck for a little bit I feel like my usual deck is much more fun, a control deck I put together that runs Doctor Octopus ( love that card). It's for sure not as strong as the Dracula netdeck but it's my own deck that evolved over time and which I put a lot of effort into. Bought Dracula since I wanted a strong deck to climb with for the next season. Now though I'm considering climbing with my control deck instead. My control deck is weird and opponents have zero clue what to expect unlike the Lockjaw Dracula deck. Perhaps that can compensate somewhat for it being weaker. I would for sure climb better with the Dracula deck but do I want to grind from 70-100 ( got infinite in pool 2) with a deck I find less fun? Feels like Dracula was 1000 token wasted.

Dracula lockjaw its a good deck, the thing is, that you need a lot of games to understand how to play a lockjaw deck, because it have a different and unique playstyle. I myself use lockjaw but the version with thor and i had to watch a lot of guides and play a lot of games to try to understand the deck, and even so, i feel that im still not playing the deck to its full potential, but one thing i can say is that the lockjaw thor its better then the dracula discard lockjaw, so if you can switch to it, do it. Its one of the best decks in the game.

I wish i had seen this before i bought Galactus. It was the first card in my shop, and i pinned it on day one. Like you said, i don't have the cards around it to make a good deck.

Sorry to hear that. It’s rough but hopefully now more people will be able to avoid that situation. Your pain will NOT BE FORGOTTEN BUT WILL INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION OF CHAMPIONS. hope you feel better

Gonna try to ignore the recommended strategy 🙃 . Currently at 550CL, will follow the advice from other video on hoarding credits before crossing into 600CL. Hopefully RNG gods bless me with the good series three cards. If not I've pinned Aero as my "break in case of bad luck" option. Great video!!!

Thanos was my first collectors shop card. It took until 3 weeks ago for me to finally buy him, had to save another 1000 tokens to get quinjet to have a semi functional deck with him. Should have filled series 3

I spent my 3k initial tokens on Shuri, then 1k on Wong and 1k on She-Hulk with the Birtpool bundle. Now i have 1.3k tokens waiting for Wave or Red Skull for Deathwave or Shuri decks. I regret a little bit spending tokens on Wong, but never on Shuri or she-hulk, i really recommend spending on them
