I’ve worked in prisons for the past 17 years. As you can imagine, the language there is habitually foul. What I have found, is that even the most hardened criminals gradually stop cussing when they’re around me, not because I said anything, but just because they notice I don’t do it.

10:17 In my old life, before I got saved in 2019, I used to "cuss like a sailor" too. People were afraid to ride along with me in my car, because I was so aggressive. In 2013 I jumped on the personal development train and already started to adjust my strong language. I guess the Lord was already working on my heart. After I start reading the Bible in 2019 I learned what God had to say about my speech and that changed my heart. If certain words were a sin against God's commands I didn't want to use them anymore! ⛔️ Praise God for His Holy Spirit and sanctification! 🕊 Love this video and new format! 👍🏽 Blessings from the Netherlands! 🙌🏽

Great video. I’ve been a Christian for over 20 years and one of the first things that I stopped doing was cussing. Don’t get me wrong, in a very heated argument, it’s easy for me to get into the flesh but 99% of my speech now is void of traditional cuss words. I want my speech to honor God. Most importantly, I don’t want my speech to hinder my witness. I want people to know that I’m a Christian not just by my walk but by my talk.

Great video. I'm using this for our bible study. The purity of our language should remain to be one of the hallmarks of believers. My parents are both 92 and I have never heard them swear - not once. Keep up the good work on your channel. Love the content.

Men love darkness rather than light, and so many rebuttals to this issue is just a reason to justify our sins. There are so many examples that God gives us clearly in His word to see why we shouldn’t cuss. Great job on this issue Jonny. Thank you for your videos which are always on point…

It’s not so cut and dry actually. Should we “curse” others? NO! But words culturally considered “cuss words” don’t have to be curses. I often hear them used to bless.

I wish we would say the proper terms like cursing (cussing is an incorrect southern ebonic slang word), profanity, and so on. I would say that we as believers should aim to use clean and proper language out of love and reverence for God and for the sake of listeners both saved and unsaved.

Thank you for this video 🙏🏼 Sad that some are still arguing that it’s ok to cuss. I have found James (1:26 & chapter 3) and Matthew (12:33-37 & 7:22) to be helpful. Love the point of being identified by our speech!

It all comes down to intention. Anyone saying: “Christians shouldn’t cuss, it’s a sin” really need to go read the sermon on the mount. It’s not about the words but the heart.

I found it interesting they didn’t bother addressing this as well. It is the strongest argument against the belief that “using cuss words” is always a sin. If I say, “ you are F-in amazing” that’s obviously not a curse. My heart was to bless you not curse.

Thank You! We have liberty in Christ. This whole discussion is based on the law not grace. I don’t use cuss words because I didn’t grow up around them BUT they don’t bother me when used in an uplifting way or as an adjective not a curse.

Ephesians 4:29 ~ Christians should NOT cuss! What light are we to those around us if we act/talk like the world? That being said, have I ever uttered a foul word? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. Prior to being saved I had a mouth like a trucker (no offence to godly truckers) God has redeemed my speech. I abhor swearing now and it disgusts me. When Christians promote “grace” in regards to this issue to me it becomes “greasy” Grace. At my former church, there was a lady who acted all holy and pious, but out of the church she let it be known the F-bomb is her favourite. She would drop Mother-F*** in conversations all the while praying for you on a Sunday morning at the altar (she is on the altar ministry team). How is this ok? This is what’s wrong with the church. Hypocrisy! The world can see it!

Cussing is a real struggle for me. I'll do well for a good while and then I'll make up for lost time. It's mainly Fs and GDs. I absolutely hate it and get super depressed when that happens. I even get to the point where it feels like forgiveness isn't available for me.

Forgiveness is always available my brother in Christ! You being depressed and saddened by your language is good because of the conviction God has given you. God’s grace works slowly. Keep trying to glorify God with your lips my brother, we all sin and fall short of the glory of God yet while we were sinners Christ died for us.

Don’t know if I love the argument that Paul didn’t cuss because doctors also used the word. This argument shines light on the issue in the first place and that is that the only issue with the word Sh** is that culture calls it “bad” but the word feces, dung, poop and crap are all acceptable. We need to ask ourselves, why is that? And some would say the word crap is also bad but others wouldn’t care but at the end of the day they all have the same meaning they just carry differing amounts of emotion.

I think the idea of "dignified" language is VERY culturally dependent (and a slippery slope if you ask me). In the same way you mention the African words mean little/nothing to you; English speaking peoples culture can be plenty different. Words obviously mean different things in different places, in different time, and contexts. The position of someone's heart/faith is not decided by their use of a phase. The most obvious mark of a Christian is how they treat people with their actions not the politeness of their words. Also, movie ratings are silly, pardon my French 😉
