I think the point is so people know who did this so they stand some sort of chance of knowing if they ever encounter them and can avoid them or whatever. I get it to be honest, if I lived in that area I'd want to know

Getting diagnosed as autistic takes a long time, years as far as I'm aware, so I'd be interested to know when they were diagnosed, also, what excuse is being autistic for killing someone the way they did? It isn't.

It’s sick what happened to that poor person. They need to be named and shamed and they are sick what they did to that person.

The point is that’s these killers came from a relatable background, that the hate that was cultivated in these people is at the fingertips of everyone .

As a trans woman myself i really think they should not be named. Right now there is no evidence that this is a transphobic killing as there was other targets, but to name the killers could lead to transphobic media and pundits applauding these people for who it was they attacked, especially now when we have american right wing transphobes calling for the eradication of trans people, and those Terfs in the Uk calling for the same thing. There is alot of hatred going around and we dont want to create poster childs for the violence against trans women

In any case they are named now and the judge labelled it a transphobic hate crime for the male killer, so hopefully the shock of this attack will have a impact on the hate and lessen the transphobia

I think they make a good point about how when somebody is murdered, there is way too much attention on the killer instead of the victim. Don't name them. Don't give them the glory. Just keep speaking about Brianna and the life she lived.

This might sound unbelievable but i swear on my heart that this is true but I was in both of their years and knew both of them. I sat next to the Boy in Science for my last year at school. He was really quiet but when he spoke it was about dark subjects. As for the girl, i knew her too. She went to the same school as me and the boy but moved in Year 10 to Brianna's school. I also used to take the bus home with him as he lived in the same area as me. It was harrowing to know that someone who seemed mostly so quiet in school to do something so horrendous. Most of my classmates who knew them including me would be happy to share their names.

It's sickening to think that people my age can think of something that horrendous to do, and then try to cover it up. Its harrowing for everyone involved for sure.

I just don't want them to get notoriety. They looked at serial killers and probably will like there name being out there. But i don't have all the knowledge the judge will have when making this decision. Also will it matter if they get a new identity if released? I googled it and apparently Elianne was murdered by an ex boyfriend refusing to return her belongings after she returned his… and the newspage was full of stabbings and deadly knife violence between teenagers. Very sad

of course not, what is naming them going to do? All it will do is make 'vigilante justice' more likely. Naming John Venables and Robert Thompson hasn't been in any way successful because they've had to have new identities (at a cost I am sure) and their families have essentially had to go into hiding to remain out the public eye. It will also give the two people notoriety which you could argue is what they wanted. We want to prevent similar minded people wanting to do these crimes for the lure of being some kind of pseudo-celebrity.
