    The soap acts as a lubricant. Drilling a pilot hole would probably be a better way for every other application.

    @@appletuntrainer he isn't wrong. Any amount of tension on two boards with a long half threaded screw covered in a friction lessening agent will pull apart easier than the same screw without. Its the same principle as how you can use a pry bar to pull nails out of surfaces. It usually isn't a problem because screws have a much larger surface area but adding lets say soap, will decrease the friction from the added surface area and make it more like a nail. There is a reason they don't use nails for framing and this is why.

    Reminds me of a story about a guy back in piece work time. He would wax up his hand drives and out frame everyone...and then about a week later his framing would start to fall apart.

    Ya, I usually dip longer lags in end cut or oil... faster than waxing every screw, does the same thing and is actually good for the wood

    The soap serves as an effective lubricant, thus, speeding the process. And, as an added benefit ... the screws are prevented from shouting profanities, once they've had their threads washed-out with soap.

    Fun fact, a jackass contractor did this when assembling a deck for a company I worked for. A couple years later, the customer called us all irate, because a bunch of of the screws rotted out and snapped, and a bunch tore out of the wood. We had to completely replace the deck over it. Turns out that many soaps are mildly corrosive.

    When working on cars I was taught to never lubricate screws because it makes it easier for them to back themselves out and slip later on. That's metal on metal, but I'm not sure if the same holds true for wood. Still drilling a hole is faster

    @@totalmetaljacket789 Only place to use anti seize I was taught was spark plugs. Blue loctite was optional unless specified. All other bolts go in dry. If a bolt didn't go in smooth then the thread had issues and you should use a thread guide or tap&die to correct it instead of forcing a bolt in.

    @@totalmetaljacket789 When I did dock repair. The screws , lag screws and bolts got lots of anti seize. Stops them rusting in the wood. You be surprised after a lag screw been in old timber. How easy they come out when anti-seize was on them. The ones put in dry. You had to cut the head off.

    Learned this trick in prison wood shop 👍 When someone would drop the soap in the shower and after we were done with them, we'd save their soap bar for this. Right on✊

    No it's more using the soap to loosen everything up so the drill doesn't have to beat the forces of friction so bad. if you listen to the drill itself then you can hear how much it struggles on the first one as compared to blowing g through that second screw like it was 2 inches long

    いやー、それがねー・・・日本のマキタと全くの別物なんですよ😅インパクト弱い、すぐブラシがダメになる、電池が一年持たないなどなど。今現在も海外マキタと日本マキタを仕事で使ってますが天と地程の差がありますよーw他の従業員に海外マキタ渡すとだったら手で回すからいらないって拒否られる程www家でやる素人diyならともかく、ガチで職人が使うには全く事足りない。

    Adding in screws without a pilot hole would just damage the bit over time even with the soap Plus there is the risk of splitting the wood.

    There is a pre drilled hole for soap side. It is visible in many frames and easy to spot when he starts screwing it in and the screw just falls in the hole

    If you use soap your screws will draw moisture. Then rust prematurely. If your working with fine wood it can cause staining. If you need to lubricate your screw use bees wax or parrafin instead

    Lubricating screws is a very common method of making screwing easier. It might be both but it's still a very good trick to know if you're into woodworking.

    Nah he's holding it. The drill is not set to "drilling", it's probably set to like 16 torque so when the screw requires too much torque, the drill skips and try again. A good way to not be stripping your screws everytime you screw a screw.

    @@jeremylachance8871 but if it's set to slip, then just hold the trigger all the way. But I've owned an impact like that, and they don't have a slip on them like a regular non-impact drill. The dude was obviously holding the trigger half way. Misleading as fuck.

    Honestly if you watch the first one closely, right as he is about to finish putting the screw in the rest of the way, he pulls the trigger ALL THE WAY, it took longer because he didnt have the trigger pulled all the way for the entire time

    Soaps contain detergents that will rapidly lead to corrosion. Candle wax would be a better idea.

    Lubricating after drilling a pilot hole is common practice for joining cabinet stiles, but modern screws make it unnecessary imo.

    Yes this works BUT, soap also attracts moisture. Moisture and wood dont mix

    It’s called lubrication. We use weird stuff like that at work. Soapstone, ect.

    It's a good technique. I use liquid dish soap. Just dip the tip in it for lube and you can screw all day.

    If you watch when he does the first one he doesnt pull the trigger all the way He does it in bursts and with those drills the lighter you press the slower it goes. Then the 2nd one he holds it fully in

    Use bees wax instead of soap so your screws don’t corrode if you have to use a lubricant!

    It's better with soap than without it. but if you also pre-drill (like here in the video) it works even better 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    just cut the tip of the screw it will go thru very easy also prevent the wood from cracking.

    Это если один Саморез для видосика, а когда сотнями крутишь, заипешься их смазывать. Нормальные руки и Шурик, вот и все что нужно и можно без мыла. )

    In India we use honey comd wax, for drilling screws into wood, not soap
