Shortline Saturday: Epic Chase of the Ann Arbor Railroad! (Drone Video)
On an overall gloomy day we headed down to Milan Michigan to see if anything was running early in the morning. B70 was gone fore the day, but the Ann Arbor Railroad was bringing a grain train up for the Great Lakes Central Railroad. Since this was going to be a railfanning day, we decided to spend it chasing the Ann Arbor Railroad all day.
We started our day at Milan Michigan where we got two shots, first at the south end of the AA yard, and second just north of the signals. Leading the way on this day was 1337. 2373 and 2368 were the other locomotives in the consist. We then headed north of town to a small crossing where the train is picking up speed. Then we scurried north to Warner road where the drone was launched for the first flight of the day. An epic shot of warner curve was to be had as the train cleared northbound. After some delays we made it to a spot north of the Huron River Bridge in Ann Arbor. The train skirts its way over the bridge and around a couple curves before heading for Osmer. At this point we broke for lunch and a restroom break before continuing our day.
At Osmer we found the GLC getting ready to bring its grain train to the interchange while the AA finished setting up for them. After the GLC cleared out of the way, the AA backed onto their train and prepared to depart Osmer. We then headed back down to the Huron River Bridge for the second drone shot of the day. This would also turn out to be really neat as they slowly crawled over the old bridge. Since we filmed the entire train we did not get our next shot until Milan, but it was another drone shot of the train rolling for Toledo. We then headed for Azial Michigan, and then finally Diann Junction for the final shot of the train passing by.
It was an awesome day of chasing that I was glad to share with my brother and one of my good friends.

+dieseltrainfreek aahh okay on the roof , it's kind of smart moving the horn to the rear on the long hood , mabye less noise inside.

+dieseltrainfreek Yes on the middle unit, it is on the cab roof, and on the third unit it was on the middle of the locomotive. This reduces cab noise as well as gives more or less equal sound for the horn in both directions.

The horn is in the center of the car body
At 6:08-8:08 I've been at that crossing before. I find it very odd that they have bells but no lights.

+Michigan Rail Productions They are the "bell on a stick" crossings. Stop signs and cross bucks

Yeah, but do you think a driver would not hear the bell or get confused?

Michigan Rail Productions That should not be an issue of they stop as the stop signs as they should and look before crossing. As far as I know over the last many years these crossings have been incident free

+Fred Lohmann The Ann Arbor railroad has one locomotive that is still painted orange, however since the early 2000's locomotives purchased second hand which came from various railroads (most are ex-Union Pacific IIRC), but were painted into UP colors, and eventually even repainted in UP colors as to match one another when they needed painting. There is also a black WATCO painted Ann Arbor Railroad GP39-2

THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE COLORS! OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE TWO UNION PACIFIC RAILROADS!

+Fred Lohmann THEY HAVE THE ANN ARBOR RAILROAD LOGO ON THEM AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THE EX-UP LOCOMOTIVES ON OTHER RAILROADS THAT STILL WEAR THE UP COLORS!!!!

+Fred Lohmann go take a look at the videos i linked in my previous comment and that is it what they will all look like in a few years when the Budget allows and also it costs hundreds of thousands of Dollars to paint a Multi-million Dollar Locomotive and the cost to paint a locomotive can be as high as $60,000.00 Dollars!!
Great chase and shots!
