Today Cory is putting the Gibson Les Paul Junior and the Fender JMJ Mustang Basses head to head.
The first bass he is demoing is the ‪@fender‬ JMJ Road Worn Mustang. This bass has a 30" Scale Length, "C" shaped neck, and Rosewood Fretboard.

    I made the switch to short scale basses in 2007 or so, and never looked back. I'm 6'3" with longer than average arms, so the reach has never been an issue. That being said, having an instrument that weighs 7-8 lbs. vs. 10+ lbs. does make a huge difference by the end of a long gig. I agree 100% with you on that. The main reason I like short scale basses is for how they sit in the mix with a full band.

    Thanks for the comparison. I have a CIJ Mustang reissue, bought new in 2009. Love that bass, it has a lot of bottom end. Just picked up a G&L Fallout, getting used to the slightly wider neck but wow it sounds awesome.

    great job! I bought a blue one and put labella MUS flats on it, absolutely love it, I also now play my ss basses more than my long scale basses (gibson sg/mustang/hofner) , due to osteoarthritis and disc disease, + I LOVE the tone. btw the Boss bassist uses short scale basses live

    Cory is one of the most informed players I've seen or heard from ever. This guy nails all of the facts about short vs long scale, strings, pickups, fingerboard radius, even playing styles. His experience is shining through and this is exactly what we need more of - real world practical knowledge and experience and less phony marketing B.S. Bravo, Cory. Great video. (great sound too!)

    Loved your review of the Gibson DC Tribute. I got one last weekend as my first bass. I couldn’t find many reviews on it so I wasn’t sure if I made the right choice. This review and the price guaranteed it for me (Guitar Center sold me one for 599.99 mislabeled or floor model I don’t know.) Cheers

    I started out on bass back in '66. I had a Univox "Beatle" bass copy with an Ampeg B-15 35 watt all tube portaflex (I should have kept the amp). I don't buy the propaganda that a "real" bass player must use a 34" scale 5 or 6 string instrument. Jack Bruce did fine on his EB2 bass and a guy from Liverpool made bass history on a Hofner. I am using a Hofner Ignition Club bass and loving it. A short scale is deeper and I love the depths.

    Im sure you can comfortably play both. In my opinion there is no disadvantage with short scales. Only advantages. They're lighter, easier to play,very ergonomical, great bottom end sound.

    Late response, but I will recommend a short scale for starting out. I bought a thunderbird bass to start with and it was huge, unwieldy and it put me off practising. I changed to a jaguar bass which is much shorter and it felt a lot better to p!ay, but also as it was smaller it was easier to move around the fret board. I made progress much faster and had more fun. Hope you enjoy whatever you choose though and like the instrument.

    With better pickups and electronics, the Gibson could do an Alembic-y thing pretty convincingly. And brass nut.

  • @souldreamer9056
    @souldreamer90563 жыл бұрын

    Can you do a video where you compare both with the same type of strings, so we can actually have a comparison of the basses. It seems pointless and unhelpful to have flats on one and rounds on another is you are comparing guitars.
