This is fascinatingly relaxing. He made her a bit more broad faced, didn't he ? There is a parallel between this and B&W photography grain. The bigger the film the more resolving power, here too his work is bigger than the original so as not to be limited by the paper grain.

Dear channel, I am a very big fan and have been watching your channel for a very long time. For some unfortunate reasons I am unable to draw with charcoal pencil. Can you please demonstrate a portrait with graphite pencils too, I always doubted whether or not this techniques apply to graphite too?

Yes ofc you can use graphite pencils. It is upto you. You can start from a scratch or you can draw the exact shape of the face.

Strange how many people do not realise that almost all these videos have a comprehensive list of materials (and often other helpful information about the artwork) instantly available by use of the little down arrow just below the bottom right corner of the video. Most have links to suppliers which usually include shipping details as well. You can get all these wonderfully helpful demos, instruction and the materials to do it yourself without leaving the comfort of your armchair. Please pass on this tip as people are missing out on this valuable information, even sometimes complaining that it isn’t provided when it is sitting there and instantly accessible all the time.

Jonah Fuenzalida I think these are student studies, not professionally produced videos. I find I learn so much from watching that commentary or subtitles are unnecessary, especially as the reference photo is alongside and it is pretty much real time. As a beginner I find it useful to try to anticipate how an effect will be achieved and critique at the end for my own personal benefit. We are so fortunate to be able to access so much good stuff, there is so much incompetent rubbish on KZread masquerading as guidance or instruction IMHO.

Most people draw things more square at the beginning. Straight lines and hard edges make it easier to define important features and perspective. The face looking more square over all after the initial block in is from him missing the jaw by just a little bit. The features in general are a little large and placed by sight size as apposed to construction. They are just normal things that happen to every one when they draw.

I agree too .. It is a very important step to make the shape just like the original one .. in our faculty they always focus on shapes because it makes big difference .. this artist is very experienced but he never get to have a break while drawing which is a huge mistake for us as artists.. if he only give a chance to his both himself and his masterpiece to have a breath and step back from 5 meters he would immediately realize if his masterpiece is going well or not since he has great sense of recognition..
