HE Lama Rigdzin Norbu(1928-2017) was one of the foremost disciples of Kyabje Dudjom Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje, the famous treasure discoverer or tertön (gter ston) and lineage holder of Dudjom Tersar. Rigdzin Norbu began his studies as boy under the direct supervision of Dudjom Rinpoche in Kalimpong, Assam India. Therefore, he was popularly known as Kaliphu Lama as Kaliphu is Bhutanese for Kalimpong. He was one among other students such as Khenpo Karpo Rimpochhe, Dungse Rimpochhe, Kadam Lama Karma Wangdi and Khoma Rimpoche. He was a talented calligrapher, sculptor, painter and architect, and assisted Dudjom Rinpoche to revive so many Buddhist texts which were on the verge of disappearing or extinction in exile.
After Dudjom Rinpoche’s passing, he returned to his birthplace Kengkhar, Bhutan, where he found Nyugphu Gönpa remaining as a hermit for decades. He built a Lhakhang and sculpted a live human size clay Budhha statue which is prophesied to talk.
Later in Bhutan he studied with Lama Sönam Zangpo, popularly known as Yongla Lama, the maternal grandfather of Dzongsar Jamyang Khentse Rimpochhe and Dungdzin Tulku Garab Dorjee. He studied with Yongla Lama architecture and later assisted him drafting the architecture design of Thimphu Memorial Chörten.
He is root master of several prominent figures in Bhutan including former Chief Justice, Lyönpo Sönam Tobgye and Home Minister Lyönpo Minjur Dorji. He taught many disciples transmitting them the teachings of his own Masters.
His passed away at November 10th 2017. He has three sons, including Khenchen Katayana Jamyang Tsering Rinpoche.(From Naldjor's page)
