Sorry for the thread necro, but a Norm Maclaren film that you have to see is "Pen Point Percussion", where Norm Maclaren explains how, through experimentation, he learned how to directly paint music on to the film. The film was made in 1940, but bizarre rules of wartime security* meant that it was only released after Norm Maclaren's film "Neighbours", which used the same technique for the music, won the Academy award for best animated short. * "Pen Point Percussion" documented how Maclaren made the music for a film promoting the sale of war bonds. The film was considered a propaganda film, propaganda films were considered to be weapons, and techniques on producing weapons were to be kept secret for twenty-five years after the end of the war.

It’s a suite of a few songs. I BELIEVE that the second or 3rd song is a Thelonius Monk tune, I definitely have it on some record, just not positive it’s his, or if it’s a standard that he played.
