Egads! I just finished The Black Tulip and loved it! I feel like your reading tastes are so similar to mine! I loved The Man Who Was Thursday and The 39 Steps, but am still amazed how few people have heard of either. Plus, I appreciated your defense of the OG Father Brown books (as one who despises the Netflix treatment). Great recommendations, kindred spirit!

So happy you mentioned Mark Twain. He is a must read and my all time favourite. Thanks for the suggestions, many books I haven't read yet so will give them a try.

My favorite of those you listed is Frankenstein. However, I have a long standing crush on both Sir Percy and on AJ Raffles! This was a fantastic list!

I LOVED Johnnie Tremaine when I was a little girl. My goal for 2020 is to read almost exclusively classics and these short classics would help!

Wonderful! A lot of modern classics tend to be shorter too, but I don't read many modern classics.

What an excellent video! So many great suggestions. The Chronicles of Narnia and The Wind in the Willows are two favorites. I think I’d like to try The Scarlet Pimpernel soon.

If you like Narnia you should try the George MacDonald books. C.S. Lewis was influenced and loved those books. Lilith is the most substantial but all of his work was incredible. the language in Lilith is a little difficult to wade through sometimes but it's great.

Louisa May Alcott has been one of my absolute favorite authors since I was a girl! Buy you mentioned some of her books that I hadn't heard of. So many of the you mentioned are now on my reading list. Thank you so much!

Such a good and varied list. I'll definitely refer to it when I want to read a short classic that's new to me. I nearly commented about including Frankenstein - I'm happy it made your list. It's one of my all time favourite classics. :)

Both Frankstein and Picture of Dorian Grey are not my favorites, but so many people enjoy them and say they are their favorite classics, so they make the list.

Great selections but I would also add the science fiction stories of H G Wells. Short and very pleasurable reading.

Albert Camus is the best short book I enjoyed

I personally do not like Virginia Woolf. Her writing style is annoying. But you could give it a try!

I don't usually like Modern Classics very much, but I did do a video about Modern Classics that Feel like Old Classics, and many of those are short and easy to read. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oY2DwZeLg6efito.html

Yes! That's an excellent place to start. His writing is engaging and easy to read. Just don't read it right before bed, because his stories are scary! ;) Happy Reading!
