I was a cart pusher for 3 years. I've been there. The only reason why wind pushes them away is because of those advertisements slapped on the front of the cart, it acts like a sail. With the ad broken off, they stay perfectly still.

I worked retail for just over a decade, we'd typically hire people as cart pushers that frankly weren't able to do other jobs and had mental issues that, while still functional, kept them from doing more complicated tasks. This poor guy can't multitask at all and you can see the frustration in his actions that he can't figure out how to stop all the carts. We always paired cart pushers up not only so they'd have some social interaction while doing such a menial and boring job, but also so that they could avoid the situation shown in the video.

This is my job. It's not easy, it's the hardest money you will ever make unless you get the early morning shifts, then you basically don't have to do anything for the first 2-3 hours everyday and you can just walk to anywhere you want in the store and talk to anyone or go outside and do whatever you want. But in the summer when it is super busy, it's sooo hard

That was my first job when I was 17 and there was one point I was stuck in the middle of the road blocking traffic because i couldn’t pull the carts together and instead of people helping me, they just honked their horns for me to get out of the way. On top of that your suggestion of using less carts is inefficient because the person would do more walking using more time while recovering less carts. A low tech strap or rope is all that is needed. Either this individual wasn't given one or that store's management was incompetent. Securing multiple carts in the corral with the use of the strap would have been the best remedy, especially since there appears to be a slope causing all the mayhem. Unsecured carts can catch wind and be hurled at your car. Inconsiderate people also block vital access points for the disabled with their finished carts because it looked like a convenient spot 🙄 That one makes my blood boil. Do people not realize a disabled person may not have the ability to push aside a cart causing them to maneuver into traffic outside of the designated zone? The crosshatched patterned markings serve a purpose! Shopping cart attendants have been sanitizing carts to protect public health since the pandemic started and constantly pick up after the trash people toss in them out of laziness. They solve an issue of inconvenience and conveniently place carts where people can literally grab one on their way in. You might not appreciate everything they do but I do. I never held that job nor am I disabled but I'm just observant. Since you failed to pick up on these things or don't care I'm glad I don't know you outside of this digital platform.
