    Thank you! I can cover these things, but if you're a store owner then these specific measurements aren't very useful to you, because there isn't much you can actually do about it. Instead, you can focus on getting your page speed up in general. By limiting your use of customer-facing apps, avoiding too much video, compressing images, and reducing your use of marketing/tracking tools.

Would be ace to have an SEO tutorial on how to delete the duplicated meta description for the home page and the collections page that Shopify creates automatically. Page speed optimisation would also be of great interest, and structured data using JSON LN. Have a good one!

    @@EdCodes brilliant! Thanks for getting back to me Ed. Appreciate it. The issue I have with duplicated meta descriptions is: I wrote the meta description for The home page, shopify takes this meta data an uses it for a collection page automatically generated by them (which can’t be edited). This same meta data was also linked to the search page - which can’t be edited. So I have three pages having the same meta data when I only want the home page to have it. If you have a solution to this problem I would be more that appreciative about it. Already looking forward to your next vids!

    If you have like 1000 different models of products (t-shirts) and you want to speed up the process, is it okay to make one product page, duplicate that product, and change the page title and the URL handle afterwards? Will that affect the Google Search Console? Thank you for all the tutorials. They are very helpful.

    Hi @edcodes, I hope you're doing well! I'm curious about the potential negative SEO impact of using identical titles and descriptions for similar products with just color variations. For instance, if I have three cotton hats in different colors as own Shopify products, and the SEO titles are "Cotton Hat in Blue," "Cotton Hat in Red," etc., could this affect my ranking? Same question for the SEO description. I'd appreciate your insights on this. Thanks!

  • @EdCodes

    @EdCodes

    4 ай бұрын

    I doubt this would have any negative impact if the naming is for logical reasons (different colors). Perhaps the opposite. If you are dominant in your niche (good domain authority) then you could have multiple colors showing up on the search results page, taking up more space and pushing the competition lower down. These pages would not be marked as "duplicate content" if that's what you're worried about. Similar products with slight differences is a common situation in ecommerce. So I'm sure search algorithms are smart enough to understand they are different products. If these products are in the same collections or linked to each other internally (through complementary product blocks or related product sections) then Google sees they are related or part of a group, which could help your website as a whole rank better. Structured data would also help. It's possible Google would give higher rank to a product with more reviews or "In Stock" availability or other factors. SEO description (meta description) is not a ranking factor at all. So you can write whatever you want in there, it won't affect ranking. It's for humans to read.

    Hi, enjoyed this! I have some questions tho. I have 2 sites: one Shopify, one Wordpress (blog). I run Ahrefs audits on them and some of what gets flagged as error or warning is different from what you advise in the video. Specifically: 1) if a product or blog title is different from the SEO title, this is flagged as a warning. 2) If my blog or product SEO title is a bit short, both WordPress and Shopify seem to automatically add my site title to the string, which inevitably takes it over the character limit. Annoying! Finally, I have found AI-generated meta descriptions, whether they come from schema or some other means, to be crap - to put it mildly. Would welcome your thoughts on these, as it's really hard for people like me to know what the right answer is sometimes when you hear conflicting advice.

  • @EdCodes

    @EdCodes

    3 ай бұрын

    1) As I understand it, the SEO title tag and product title do not need to be identical. They serve different purposes so it would be silly for that to be a rule. They just shouldn't be vastly different (e.g. a clickbait SEO title that doesn't match the actual article). So it makes sense that ahrefs flags it as a warning just in case. Look up "should title tag match h1" if you want to read more. In our case h1 is the product title. 2) Character limit isn't a big deal. It won't hurt your ranking or anything. If you weren't planning to add your site title on the end anyway, and then it gets added but it's cut-off then it's the same result isn't it? Maybe I'm misunderstanding. Anyway, check your theme.liquid file near the top you should see some lines about how the is created, and maybe you can remove {{ shop.name }}. 3) I'm not sure what you mean by AI-generated. Is it about what I showed in the video using TinyIMG or something else? I suggested templated metadata for large stores where it would be impractical to do it manually. Basically it's better than nothing. Works better for some stores than others. Sometimes model + vendor + site title is all you need.

  • @SpeedbirdHeavy

    @SpeedbirdHeavy

    @@EdCodes thanks so much for your detailed reply - much appreciated. I always felt that it was strange that Ahrefs made such a big deal about H1 titles and SEO titles, but I just complied thinking they must know something! On your point 3, yes it was kind of related to templated metadata in as much as when I've tried automated tools for this in the past, the output - particularly for the meta description - was rubbish. I found that when I used a schema ('article' for my WordPress blog posts) it overwrote my own, perfectly-penned meta descriptions with complete junk. I assumed the latter was compiled using AI since it just lifted phrases randomly from my blog post and put them together; phrases that were the least important and made no sense when stitched together! So I ended up turning off the schema because I was so disgusted with it. Although I do use AI tools and appreciate that things can only get better, I think it has a long way to go.

    Hi Ed - could you clarify please? Is the product description important for Google finding the product? ie It would benefit from keywords or not? Thankyou!

  • @EdCodes

    @EdCodes

    4 ай бұрын

    Yes, the product description is important and it should include keywords. The meta description, not so much. What I meant in the video though was that so many stores have no description at all, so try to have 100 words at least and you're already doing good! Also, you don't need to stuff the product description with keywords for the sake of keywords. Just try to write in a way that provides all the details a customer might be interested in. This will naturally have a lot of the right keywords.

    1. In Settings -> Markets set up a different domain for the UK market. either a subdomain or subfolder like uk.yourstore.com or yourstore.com/uk. 2. Set up UK English as the language for that market 3. Make sure your theme is using hreflang tags for both US and UK versions. 4. Add both versions in Google Search Console 5. Focus on local backlinks - get listed by UK blogs and websites.

    Cool product! Great store - simple and to the point. Good visual examples. Since the stand is sold separately I wonder if I can attach any monitor of my choice to it - and maybe there can be some more information about this (weight, attachments) and examples. The site needs social proof, I know you just launched, but get a reviews app (maybe photo reviews like Loox app) and ask a few friends to leave reviews with photos. Maybe in cool locations. And get some of your Insta content on the site too. Lastly I think the colors can be improved a bit. The site is too grey making it look default-ish, and it should be more cheerful for nomads anyway - the photos of you in the jungle help. The black, glowing red shop now button reminds me of the Sith (star wars) :). Good luck!
