I’ve had one of those iVac switches since 2011 and it still works like a charm. I tend to have mine mounted pretty centrally in my small garage setups so I can get to it easily if I want to use it in manual to vac the floors.

Ivacs are great! I've used it in my shop for the last 10 years. I have pretty much gone the same routed you are. I do use my large 2 hp dust collector on my table saw, band saw, and jointer. They are all stationed close enough that I have some simple short runs of 4" hose to each and all my other tools, drill press, miter saw, and planer all use individual shop vacs with home made cyclones on each.

I bought something last year called "IntelliPlug - Desktop Version" that was available in uk. It is meant to turn on/off peripherals with a desktop PC. It is ok for powering table saw and shop vac as it can handle 13A at 240V. It cost less than £3 on Amazon at the time. It doesn't appear to be available feom Amazon any more though (Only 3rd party resellers that want £20).

I have several small shop-vac type units. But I do put HEPA filters on each one. That makes a surprising amount of difference. Also, just a box fan with a 20x20 filter on it helps with general sanding dust in the air.

I bought the small Ivac and it's great. I do have to say that holding that thing by the power cord is extremely dumb. It's a freaking power cord, not a handle. The other ends of those cords are attached to sensitive components and you are putting a lot of stress on them by holding them that way. Yes, it may be reinforced, but why risk it? This is probably why you see so many people complaining about power tools on Amazon. "I picked it up and swung it around by the power cord 20 times and now it doesn't work. Piece of junk! 1 star review!"

Thanks for sharing this Ryan I have one but only a two socket and I thought it was broken because it had a 2-second delay when I turned on the table saw I know it has that delay at the end to clear out the lines but never realized it was preventing the breakers from cutting out going to have to plug it back into the wall and use it and get a few more for my band saw planer jointer now that I know it won't trip the breaker once again thanks for sharing this shop is looking pretty good man

As a computer geek with lots of disk drives to manage, I found that spreading out starting or stopping motors, just by a little bit, can make all the difference as to whether the breakers blow or not. Anything with inductive motors (like almost all shop tools) have spikes both when they turn on and off. The iVac will also let you power the vac from one power source, and the load (saw?) from a second source, allowing you to spread the loads over multiple breakers if you need to and have it available.

servant74 so if my Shop-Vac is 11 amps and my table saw is 15 amps I should be able to power from the same socket as long as theyre both plugged into the I vac right? I guess I could just try it out for myself and if the power fails then I know not to LOL thanks for a little bit Insight I know nothing about Electronics something I should have paid attention to back in high school and college

  • @servant74

If you have a 20A circuit, I would rather have one on each of two circuits. The iVac would allow you to do that. The iVac has two power cords for incoming. On for tool power and one for vac power. One of them gets plugged back into itself if you only have one power source (yea, sounds crazy, but it works and the instructions give a clear howto. Once you go through it, you don't need the instructions again (unless you forget, like I tend to ))

For lower power tools, there's a cheapo smart power strip on floating around the internets that works well. I have and use a few of them - they have the same delay as on the iVac, as well as lots more outlets. Wish I could remember the name. 15 amp max is the only downside.
