Nice video Ken, and a very good job of beefing up that channel section. This answers a lot of questions I had about those light presses as I have been considering getting one. Anyhow, thanks and cheers!

You really got that thing modified now Ken ! The only thing with having the air over hydraulic is I like the hand feel when you are trying to press something. Pumping the handle I start to question whether it should be this hard and I should double check the part.
@1970chevelle396

Thanks. With the air over hydraulic your right you don’t know how hard your pushing on something
@freeidaho-videos

Agreed, and I often count pumps on the handle when making the same bend on several parts, especially where it isn't possible to use an angle finder.
@1mean1

But understand that even with the air over hydraulic, you can always use the air to get it close and finish with the hydraulic hand pump.

I liked what you did. You might also think about welding washers on to the ends of the pins that hold the table up. By having a oversized washer you wont accidentally push the pin clean through and it stops up against your new top.

i made my press out of 3/8 thick 5x5 angle riveted together (old bridge girder) for the sided and 3x8 channel for the table and top i made my jack plate able to slide side to side (dont think i ever used it tho) need to add the winch for mine too that table is "HEAVY" found a 2in thick plate 8x10 to press on great add ons!!!

Great video of the mods. What you could do now is install a couple of LED work lights in the pockets underneath, on each side of the jack table. With the amount of mods guys do on their harbor freight 20 ton presses, I think it would, (although initially more expensive), be better to build a 50 ton press right from scratch using a hydraulic foot operate ram. A 50 ton press is usually in the nature of $2,000. so to build one would be somewhat cheaper to do. Now you have a 50 ton capability.

@@1970chevelle396 You could still make one. I made a 100 ton press using two 50 ton rams. All metal was between 1 inch and half inch thick. It's a very heavy piece of equipment. All moving operations are done by hydraulics.

Is it possible to make changes so that the stem drops instantly and immediately touches the point to be pressed at maximum pressure?

Good project. However I note this is a fabrication video that shows no fabrication. The video is just quick jumps in time showing things are done. No fabrication. We can tell from your hands that you are doing work though, just not showing it.
