    Got a 50AE Desert Eagle back in THE 90's, then I got a 10" barrel chambered in the 440 COR-BON. Was getting 1800 ft/s with 240gr bullets, giving a PF of 432, not only a little higher than the 50AE, but flatter shooting too! And out of an autoloader!

    Love my 460V full lug five inch muzzle brake equipped barrel. Can use 460 S&W magnum, 454 Casull, 45 Colt in the longest tactical copper hollow point loads, 45 Schofield. TK Custom altered the cylinder for mine to take moon clips and in Starline brass the 45 ACP and also 45 Super, 460 Rowland and 45 Winchester magnum using Starline brass. Added an extra long firing pin from Cylinder and Slide. So no need for a spacer moon clip to shoot rimmed cartridges reliably.

    I keep looking at the .500 S&W but each time I have to remind myself that I have six .44 magnums that are than capable of taking anything I am likely to encounter in the Eastern U.S. where I hunt. Coupled with the weight of the gun and exorbitant cost of the ammunition I always manage to talk myself out purchasing the big X-frame ... so far !😂

    I didn’t have to watch this video to tell you the 500 is king. but I still did and it was a great video. also I agree with one of the earlier comments don’t believe the 500 had a 12 inch barrel..

    I love all these big bores, but I always keep coming back to the 44 magnum for deer. Loaded with WFN hardcast at about 1200 fps is lethal, and it would be lethal on elk too as it’s been proven many times. I’ve never had much luck with jacketed hollow points are jacketed soft points. They kill pretty good, but sometimes they do not expand that great through pistol length barrels at 50 yards. I’ve a firm believer in hardcast due to them always exiting the animal and leaving good blood trails. A good 260 grain WFN gas check at 1200 fps in 44 magnum, and your looking at around five feet of penetration.

    I can't believe you missed the 460 mag. Much better hunting pistol than the 500. More energy down range and less drop at distances. It is "the" best caliber in the S and W line. Did I mention it shoots like a pussycat? I can shoot it all day long and I can run 4 different cartridges. I don't and only use the 454's and 460's. Good video about the Encore's. Never have seen them.

    Doing all those figures is at close to the muzzle data. I think distance would play a big part in the real numbers. All game does not walk right up to you.

    I tried a 4-12x Burris pistol scope on my 50AE a couple of decades ago, it shattered the glass. Burris fixed it free of charge, but I ended up just going to a red dot instead.

    I like shooting my .500 better than my .460, the impulse of the .460 is really punishing. I load the .500 with a 440gr bullet at 1650fps

    I think the problem with the rifle caliber handguns is that they just don't have the barrel length for the rifle powders they're using. The cartridges just aren't designed for that and lose a lot of energy in unburnt powder

  • @raymondbuie5292

    @raymondbuie5292

    Yes sir, conventionally loaded for a rifle ammunition you are mostly correct in that situation and that can be true. However a good many of us handload our ammo so we are able to alter this to large degree. Muzzle velocity is not the only consideration when shooting at handgun distances anyway. Bullet weight can be used in reverse proportion to achieve energies needed to game at these much shorter distances. Especially so in the cast bullet world.

    Lol. So many Elk , big bear and large African game has been taken with the 44mag. The 50AE is even more powerful that that. It’s obvious you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to handgun hunting! Just trying to sale guns!!
