Shooting the Uukha SX+ Recurve Limbs at 70 Meters for the First Time

How do the Uukha SX+ Limbs feel at 70 meters? Does the SX+ Limbs smoothness through the clicker help shoot higher scores? I put these limbs through their paces at distance to give more accurate and descriptive feedback on how they feel.

    Great feedback... I really like the way you are handling your gear videos now... some raw data and other videos like this that allow thoughts and real-time feedback while shooting. This is the type of super analytical data us regular archers need that don't have the ability to try before we buy... immensely valuable. If the draw curve on these is accurate I am thinking these might be fine for me at my draw length... I am between 30.5"-31" so I should have a bit more stack which might remove a bit of that squishiness for me... fingers crossed!

    Great video, really looking forward to the xceed review as well. Would love to see how it fits your non Hoyt limbs. I imagine it’s the same but I noticed on mine the limbs could still move forward after they clicked in. Doesn’t seem to be an issue when shooting, the first pluck on the seats them, but it still struck me as odd

    Very cool to see you "moving the barrel forward" on the close up shots. Seems like you are used to the stack on the back end of other limbs. I had the same feeling at first, but am used to the uukhas now after shooting for over a month.

    Just watched high speed footage of different nocking heights upon loose, from 0 to 14mm in 1mm increments. Personally, I think his tiller was out, but it might be worth getting hold of a high speed camera to work out tiller and nocking height. Take care and happy shooting.

    Interesting comment on the 'slight stacking' feeling. We have experimented with a string limiting the 'draw length' (Limiting string from riser to bowstring). The experiment was sucessful and the 'break' extremely consistant. We know it's not allowed but , never the less it would seem to indicate a limb duplicating the feeling of a draw stop (ie: stacking) would be an advantage.

    Nice video, even if i prefer barebow. I shoot old uukha ux100, but i in the past I used Border HEX6.5 and VX+. Both are surprisingly smooth around draw length, probably more than SX.Some people hate that smoothness and dont get used to it. I takes a while to get accustomated to this weird feeling - it almost feels you have cam and let off. After a while it really feels good and it allows me to relax more specially the sting hand, once I get used to it. For bare bow shooters, on one hand you loose a bit of feeling of the draw length, on the other hand the unconsistencies have less effect on the speed due to the low increase in power. Also, when you get tired and lazy at the end of a round, it is easier to reach full draw.

  • @tgallife
    @tgallife3 жыл бұрын

    Your comments about draw length inconsistencies remind me of some conversations I had with John Magera. He liked limbs that stacked around the clicker because he could "feel" the draw length better. I guess it's just a question of training your muscles to a given load.

    Looked like you had some really strong shots. My long holds are almost always right (right handed). Great concentration when that circular saw fired up! When are we going to see the JK Vibration Measurement jig? I shot medium PSE Xpression foam limbs with a 27" GMX riser before my long hiatus. I think I prefer the feel of wood-core now. I'm still working up in poundage so I'm not shooting top of the line limbs. I'm really curious to see which Velos limbs you test and what you think of them.

    Thanks, Jake. I wonder if the feeling of variable draw length is just a function of having been shooting barebow. Maybe shoot barebow again then try a 70m round with some foam limbs and see if you experience a similar feeling? That'd would help identify whether or not is a uukha limb thing or a Jake thing. I experience the same thing with a set of mxt gf limbs if I haven't shot in a while or if I've been goofing around with other bows. Just a thought.

    The draw length inconsistency mirrors my experience with Uukhas from last season. Considering the extra recurve you may feel more at home with a set of shorter limbs. My 68" VX1000s give me a "feel" in the clicker zone more akin to what a pair of regular 70" target limbs would feel like (shot at a 29.5" draw length).

    Agree its overkill to have S-curve limbs +long limbs even for long drawlenght. SX50/Gobi medium limbs doesn't start to stack well after 33" draw in my own comparisons plotting drawforce curves inbetween my limbs. So long limbs maybe we talking 35" draw length before you start feeling "a wall" of some kind.

    Uukha user here. Extra long on a 27, 33" draw. The uukhas come into their own for long draw lengths, I think. Compared with same weight on the fingers mxt gf limbs, it is just a more comfortable feeling at the clicker (could be bow length as much as limb design). In my experience, w&w limbs just dont like being drawn to Viking draw lengths.

  • @InFerrumVeritas

    From what I've been able to find, most "smooth" limbs have about a 5% increase in draw weight per inch between 27 and 30". The Uukhas have about 3.5% in that range. Based on comparing the DFC charts with things Vittorio and Sid Ball have said about limbs, and the charts W&W put out, I actually think the previous Curve profile is more efficient and would be more comfortable to shoot. That tracks with you finding the older, cheaper Uukhas faster per pound. I'm a little disappointed in their marketing materials, because I think they have a good product, but they want their most expensive limb to be the best at everything, rather than accurately pointing out the tradeoffs. It looks like the Xcurve profile has more stored energy.

    You were joking about sight-pin/stabilizers with respect to recent barebow volume that you shot.... Well... Let's just take off all that stuff and shoot the 70M barebow :-) Are you shooting the SX+ 48's or less? You mentioned working out.. The moment I'm in, I was able to build endurance easily at 35# my next up are 45's but lately, I haven't been able to easily build volume at 45# the only change? I have not been able to strength train regularly since last May. I'm a lifelong athlete and since 1975, I've never been more than a few days away from my gym. Good news is that here in Socal a change is comin, by next weekend, red tier entry 🤞 Translates to 25% access to gyms AND climbing walls, mine are under one roof 👊 Thanx for all the thinking out loud shot process vidz.

    Hello Jake, I noticed that when you are shooting just before the clicker going off, you are still moving or falling toward the spotting scope. To me, it looks like you are not settling down before your shot. I have watched many videos, new and old of you shooting, and I haven't found one where you are doing that. Maybe that is the camera angle in the other videos, but you are definitely doing it in this video. On another note, I personally did not enjoy using the Uukha limbs and had quite a few quality control issues with them. I now use the Wiawis NS-Graphene foam limbs and have found excellent stability, comfort in my draw, fantastic quality control and very easy to set up, which gives me very good accuracy. I am also using the Gray AIX 25" riser with these limbs. Stay well, stay safe, all the best from Australia.

    @cameronsenay882

    That’s perfectly fine. Many people do that. If you have weights that are different metals, but the same sizes, you can get even size stacks, but different weight distribution.

  • @rickardbrinck2886

    @rickardbrinck2886

    3 жыл бұрын

    According to Vittorio Frangilli, that used to be the case but all risers today are made with the stabilizer bushing slightly offset to adjust for this. Some people may still want to add additional weight to the left side bar to change the way they apply their grip pressure, similar to modern compound setups, but we're talking an ounce or less with a recurve.
