Shooting the beautiful & cold Biggin in the rolling Derbyshire countryside. (Shooters Vlogg 52)

A day in the rolling Derbyshire countryside as guests of the wonderful Jones family for Ian's birthday shoot. Although we had little to no wind, brilliant sunshine and freezing temperatures we still took some birds, laughed and had a day to remember!

Not a shoot I would want to visit, possibly better with some wind but most appear to be under 15 yards up!

Hi Stuart, its always a tuff day without wind and with brilliant sunshine as I said in the film several times that said the birds that came out were a real mixture ranging from pheasants blasting through trees at 20yrds to other getting right up to 40yrds, definitely not a shoot to write off, I've been here twice in the last two years and variance in birds this shoot can show is quite different. Perfect for a gun line with differing abilities. Thanks for watching!

@@theseatedgun2377 JP I appreciate the difference between a day with benefitial wind and a still day, maybe the shoot needs to get cute, we had a drive that was appalling if driven towards the gun line, we ended driving the birds away and they turned back and made far more sporting birds. I once shot on the fens and by lunch time hadn’t fired a single shot as none of the birds deserved a cartridge! Sometimes the head keeper needs to think outside the box to get better birds for the line!

In Devon and latterly Dorset we call that a ''dead air day'' .High pressure windless days are some of the worst for this kind of shoot where birds are getting up as opposed to coming off.. Is the good lady shutterbug's iPhone a 13 ?

As usual, nicely presented video account of the day, but perhaps the shoot should change their format to driven partridge as most of the pheasants appeared to be of not very sporting quality.

Hi John, The shoot does normally have some partridge down but with the AI this year they didn't get there allocation, I do have to say the pheasants were sporting and varying across all drives with some blasting through tree cover to others getting right up and over 40yrds. A real mixture of birds from every angle and height

Looks like the shoot put pressure on yourself and the guns to fill the bag on birds that should of been left just so they can get there cash personally I would of put my gun in it’s slip and walked off .. never heard that before take them out in front like partridge 🙈

Hi Simon, you couldn't be further from the truth, the day was an invitational day so no pressure from guns or the shoot to hit a bag as such. It was an extremally relaxed day and the shoot showed birds from every angle and height ranging from Pheasants blasting through tree cover to others getting up and over 40yrds. Appreciatively the higher birds were not over us for most of the day, however the other guns certainly enjoyed some super sporting pheasant shooting. Anyone who shoots a lot will know to take quarry out front if you can as that then gives you a sporting chance should you miss with the second barrel. If you shoot in Norfolk all the keepers will tell you to take the birds out front, regardless whether partridge or pheasant. All in all its a great little shoot with birds for everyone and as sporting as you would like them to be. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been shooting for over 40 years and I wouldn’t and any one else I’ve ever shot with would be paying premium money to be shooting those sorry but each to there own granted no wind and those birds will not fly into the sun and never will and when your relying on weather conditions to get your birds going it’s difficult
