I head out to a coastal location in Um Al Quwain, UAE to shoot video and photographs of wading shorebirds with the Sony A7RIV paired with the 200-600 G lens with Ruan Davey.
This video is aimed at newish birding enthusiasts who might be considering to upgrade to this more affordable and versatile combo, (as compared to say the A1 with a prime lens or the newly released Sony A7RV)….I show what this camera and lens combo are capable of in terms of video and photographs of birds.
Throughout the day, the weather conditions were changing...overcast and cloudy, then some light rain and later full sunshine...and it was interesting to see how the camera was able to cope with these changing conditions.
I discuss a few ways to get more reach by getting closer to the birds and by cropping in using APS-C mode or in post.
This is not a detailed technical review of either the camera or the lens and is not aimed at seasoned professionals.
I’ve shot on Sony cameras for many years but only recently purchased the A7RIV and 200-600 in May of 2022 and love it so far!
I was able to identify and shoot 16 species of birds in a single day at this location. I’ve included some of my pics as well as my settings, all of which were shot on the A7RIV camera.
