The third Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Iemitsu, who had been staying in Kyoto, leaves for Edo. However, in the procession, just like the previous visit to Kyoto he used a substitute for safety while traveling incognito as a member of a theatrical troupe, performing as they journeyed towards Edo. Thus Shogun Iemitsu's ninja journey began again.
This sequel, born from the success of the previous film, continues to depict the adventures of Iemitsu's group as they travel back to Edo from Kyoto. In this installment, Iemitsu, portrayed by Mitamura Kunihiko, exhibits a more polished, inviting performance and his dynamic partnership with Shinkichi continues to shine. Alongside familiar faces from previous productions such as Okubo Tadataka (played by Koyama Shigeru), Lady Kasuga (Mitsuya Utako), and Otsuta (Manda Hisako), a new addition graces the ensemble as a female traveler : Oren (Ito Chieri).
