Can you please react to samurai warrior queens is a documentary about samurai women and their role in fuedial Japan this documentary tell the story of Nakano tekeko who was a female samurai known as Onna buegisha, who fought against the imperial army during the bushin war. Armed with an naknita which is a Japanese bladed pole arm used by women martial artist its the weapon mariko uses in the show. The movie the last samurai was based on this war. Can you also react to byakkotai 2007 which is a true story about a group of young samurai boys around high school age and their sacrifice for their clan in Aizu, Aizu is a provenance in Northern Japan they were loyal to the shogun and the imperial army was loyal to the emperor who wanted to westernize Japan. The byakkotai fought and died in the bushin war, the movie last samurai was also based on this as well. Along with byakkotai their were the Joshitai which translate to women army who also fought and died during the bushin war Nakano tekeko was one them their were an unofficial part of the Aizu army almost 600 women helped in the defense of Aizu their story is really unknown true story that they didn't put in the last samurai but they did put it byakkotai just a head up this a sad series because its a true story and a lot people died in this war, every year in Aizu theirs a memorial held to honor those brave men and women who died protecting Aizu. Watch samurai warrior queens first then watch byakkotai 2007 which is in Japanese but you can get it with English cc byakkotai 2007 might be a little hard to find but please do it worth it and history is absolutely fascinating.

The first few minutes revealed that Mariko was unaware of his father’s plans and held contempt for Hidekatsu Toda-sama even then, and i didnt know this until this episode, she views him as below his station as evidenced by her comment in the flashback about how her father is discarding him; also telling Ruri-hime (Ochiba sama) what a joke and worth less alliance it was to marry her off to the Toda family;and also by his comment to Toranaga about how his father should have married her better. so much so that when Toranaga revealed truth bombs to her, clearing up her misunderstanding, i was literally shouting at the screan “YES! THANK YOU!” So much so that the next door neighbour knocked on my door to check if i was OK. Lol Also, though her words were subtitled “i have failed my father”, it could have also been translated as “I have betrayed my father’s trust” And it puts Hidekatsu Toda-sama in a more sympathetic light, though of course, we still disapprove of the Domestic violence. And Toranaga Knows. And Kiku-dono knows. And she was setting something up, but Mariko caught herself.

1. All hail Ochiba no kata 2. The running gag of Yabushige writing his will. AGAIN. 3. Fuji-sama sipping her tea, trying to act oblivious to what Gin, Kiku’s…erm…handler is trying to insinuate about Blackthorne and Mariko-sama.

@@vayne-he9yi She is but like everyone else her son is ultimately a means to an end. In her case, revenge against those she thinks has conspired towards the death of her father and the fall of her house. If the show is moving the same way as the book, Ishido has feelings for Lady Ochiba. And of course he's more than willing to fill the power vacuum that would result from all the turmoil.

@@BrokenNoah Ishido planned to die in the first confrontation when he baited one of Toranaga's samurai to lunge at him. Ishido is obviously power hungry like the rest of them, but I'd say being willing to sacrifice his life to ensure the heir ascends into power makes him the most loyal to the Taiko of the bunch.

@@vayne-he9yi it wasn't a bait to get him killed. That wouldn't even make any sense considering Tadayoshi would be dead even before he reached 5 paces towards the regents. See the samurais surrounding the room? They weren't for show. Even if somehow Tadayoshi was able to reach and kill him, again, that wouldn't make any sense considering they haven't impeached Toranaga yet. That would prematurely take him out of the board. What's the point of handing out the impeachment letter when you will be dead before you can vote? If it's truly a bait, it is not for him to get killed but for Toranaga to make the first move as that would preclude an act of war, strengthening Ishido and the other regents' position.

Historically, the Taiko and Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga) are rivals; they are not friends. Ochiba (Yodo-dono) is the de facto head of the Taiko's clan. She aims to maintain her clan's hegemony and see her son rise to power. The historical Ieyasu wanted to be Shogun and was rightfully seen as a threat to the Taiko's clan. One thing that has bothered me is that Toranaga is portrayed very differently from Ieyasu. Objectively speaking, Toranaga should be the villain or antagonist. So, when Ochiba says that she has seen Toranaga making plans and conspiracies in the dark, that is actually more in line with the real Ieyasu. It might be that Toranaga is playing the audience hard in this one ;) The real Ieyasu did not care for the heir but used him as a pretext for his actions.

Oh I agree with this, if he is anything like his historical counterpart he at the very least should want power. And I don't know whether I like Kuroda, Oda Nobunaga's counterpart being boiled down into a mad king situation.

@@rhuskymikhaelorcullo5832 Yeah, I was thinking the same. Seeing Kuroda (Oda Nobunaga) as a mad king feels underwhelming. I would prefer that he was portrayed as a competent leader; then, it would make more sense as to why Mariko's family was seen as traitors. After all, killing a monster of a leader can be justified.

Oda Nobunaga, the model for Kuroda, had declared war on The Pure Land Buddhist Monks and the scene of him beheading them is somwhat accurate. This was the catalyst from Akechi's betrayal both in historical fact and in the book/series

@@michaellockhart554 Oh, I did not know that. I have only read that the reason for the betrayal was unclear. But I have never read that his contemporaries perceived Nobunaga as a madman.

Lady Ochiba feels like that one prodigy kid who got into an entertainment industry, faced so many physical, sexual and psychological abuses to get to the top and ended up as a broken cynical person who had to depend on addiction of something to cope. In this case, her addiction is power.

In the book and in this scene John and Mariko sleep together. I don't understand why in the tv show it's different. It makes no sense. The whole point in the book is that the escort covers up Mariko and John having a night together, as everything in the building is kept as a secret. Modern tv has Mariko running away and not liking John. Sheesh

@@thefirstbourne149 Yes, in the show she likes John, but they have her walking away in the escort scene. In a "modern strong independent woman, I don't need no man" way. Disappointing really. In the book, she also tries to hide her feelings for John for lots of reasons, but she is human still and gives into her feelings a few times as she has done once in the show so far

Least fav episode. Kiku scenes were remotely revolting. Why anybody would enjoy sleeping with someone who’s on every man’s schedule. She ruined the vibe of the whole series so far.
