Update: The coaster has finally closed and was demolished.

I remember when the Shockwave came to Valleyfair. I tensed up on the loop and ended up straining my back. I found the entire ride rather harsh. I can see why they're getting rid of it.

King Cobra was the only Togo stand-up coaster I have ridden (I think it might be the only Togo coaster I've ever been on). I remember the bicycle seats, the wonky restraints, and the novelty of a stand-up coaster. Times have changed in 30+ years.

Rest In Peace, Shockwave! You gave me some crazy good times!

The ride operators were always so funny though they'd call it *the almighty shockwave* in a dramatic voice

We have one at carowinds and im Worried cause one of the last Icons in the park original coaster will go to Expand Vortex carowinds stand-up,,,,iDK about you but i don't stand in Line all the time

It’s nice how some of the track is surrounded by trees.

I hate that they took a roller coaster down to replace it with a ride instead. It should at least be replaced with another roller coaster.

+CoasterCrab Well that's not why the coaster shutdown. The reason why the coaster shutdown was that the coaster was getting old. 2 the coaster had many complaints about that it was a painful ride. And 3 I could have been involved with the 1999 death when A man fell out of the car and fell to his death. The reason why the coaster was kept for so long was because it was a huge part of the park and company's history. But with all the head smashing and bumping is what really made them closed down this coaster.

the guy that died brought a tool with him on the ride and released his restraints. no one knows what he was trying to do, but it (that one case) wasnt the ride's (or the parks) fault.

Boy, I sure can't wait to go on this again in the summer of 2019!! I think I'll go on this first and then head over to ride Volcano, my favorite coaster at KD! ...Then I figure I'll get in line for the Hurler before taking on Hypersonic before I eat lunch at the 'good' pizza place. Finally, I think I'll wrap up the evening with a ride on King Cobra before I scream for my life in the dark on the Haunted River! .....I can't wait!! The anticipation is killing me!! 🎢

My best friend peed on herself on that ride and she was crying her tail off. I just about died laughing at her. I didn't get on it.

RIP that one 20-year-old dude who had his head smashed on the metal walkway which caused his brain to splatter all over on the final turn because of how reliable this ride was and how great the operators worked that day of 1999.

If you research this, the guy was intentionally trying to free himself from the harness when this happened.

I missed this ride! It felt like my insides were being pulled out as we went down that hill. It wasn’t a tall hill but it was steep! Those were some good times. 😂😂😂😂

This ride beat the shit out of me, and not in a good way. It's basically a stand up wooden coaster. That's how poorly build it is.

A shorter rider of a shockwave coaster once told me that they got sick from their head bouncing back and forth between the bars.

This is the scariest coaster I have ever been on! But it was amazing!

I was terrified to ride this ride as a child and my mom got upset at me for not wanting to ride it and I’m honestly glad I didn’t because of how painful everyone says it was

it kinda hurt my head a little bit. I kept my head back but it still jerked around did any one else have this problem?

It's a ride made by Togo, or as I like to say, The Japan equivalent of Arrow Dynamics or Vekoma. They made rough coasters. I can't really think of a good one they made (Fujiyama may be the only exception, but even that one's pretty rough).

+Carlos Vera yeah it did go away after some time which was when I was about to go on my last ride before I leave the park. So yeah about 4-5 hours

I miss this ride, it didn’t Deserve the hatred it got, it’s sad the park chose this over anaconda to scrap, it was Unique and very forceful, and it even had two pops of airtime, sometimes I wish they had given it sit down trains even over trashing it, I will Always miss this classic.

If I was in those kind of seats I would be screaming for my life

Epic. Canada's Wonderland in Canada had the same one (they called it Skyrider) up until a few years ago. Miss it dearly

I rode this on Monday and I love the ending. There's loads of airtime in the end.

I remember the first time I rode this thing, and the massive nutcheck it gave you at the end.

Togo made a lot of the coasters in Japan, about 50 out of the 60 they produced. There's one in Kuwait, one at in Canada and a few in the US. There was one in China but it's since been closed along with 30 others mostly in Japan and a few in the US.

This was my first coaster many many years ago!

Oh, so this is what the shockwave used to be. I had this kinda disappointing old looking blue one. This one looks so cool and scary!

It's like a giant skateboard lol.

Even though Shockwave was a rough ride, I’m glad I was able to get on it the season before it was tore down.

This one of the slowest lift hills I've ever been on. Damn thing was only 95ft and took almost a minute to get up the hill

omg... my parents went on this in the early 2000s, THIS COASTER, this coaster is the reason my mom, she never goes on any roller coasters anymore! LOL!

This was my first-ever coaster with inversions. I rode it in the spring of 1994. At that time, it was black with yellow trim. I much prefer that color scheme to this repaint.

There’s a stand up coaster at Drayton Manor as well called Shockwave

I can't find Stand-up Coaster 1.

I rode it a long time ago, before they had those orange seat belts connecting the sides of that butterfly shoulder harness together. Safety was an issue because I didn't really understand how to secure myself into that thing, and nobody noticed because I was halfway up the lift hill with my arms straight forward when I figured out I was supposed to pull those things to my chest 😬 I almost went down that first drop with an open harness.

Seems like Kings Dominion is good with taking out coasters and not replacing them. I went there for the first time in 2019 and it felt like it was missing something

I MISS the coaster wish Kings Doninon NEVER got rid of it

Well Shockwave has been gone for a few years now. There is a Mondial Revolution frisbee ride called Delirium in its place. . . which is actually way more fun! KD also took out Volcano 😢 and RMC'd Hurler into Twisted Timbers.

@@sharpproductions yes, I knew they had gotten rid of it a ways back. Getting rid of Volcano was another reason why it wasn't worth going anymore since in my eyes it was the best ride there aside from Flight of Fear.

You know, I actually kind of wished they didn't take this down. Sure it was painful as all hell, but it really was a different experience.

I remember riding Shockwave so many years ago ( 2001 ), seems like decades ago. LOL

I don't know about all of you, but I miss it.
