if the strut mount is starting to wear out. Does that mean the strut. is worn out as well? Help me please

Jaime: Not necessarily but because of the duplicate labor involved to replace the mounts it is normally financially prudent to replace both at the same time. The exception would be if the struts are new or nearly new then you would only replace the mounts. Pat

I bet this is why my Subaru eats tires faster than my old accord. Well AWD doesn't help either.

Shocks are positioned in such a manner that they hydraulically reduce the normal tendency of a car to bounce up and down over bumps. They do not serve any structural function.Struts are positioned in such a manner that they hydraulically reduce the normal tendency of a car to ounce up and down over bumps. Struts additionally form a structural part of the suspension. A strut eliminates the upper control arm in the suspension and keeps the wheel in position. The strut also has the coil supporting spring attached to it where the shock usually does not. So the shock controls bounce and positions the wheel and provides a mounting point for the cars supporting springs.Pat

The Moog units for my 1995 accord said quick strut or whatever. Technically a 1995 accord doesn't have struts, they have coil over shocks. LOL.

Please allow me to disagree with you on that one. Coil over shocks have spring preload adjustment, Honda does not. A strut positions the wheel to maintain caster and camber, Honda does both. A shock does not have a rotating chassis mount, but a strut does as does Honda. Shocks don’t turn with the suspension as you steer the car but Honda does. I guess even though it has feathers, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck and waddles like a duck it isn’t? Pat

But 90s accords didn't have alignment settings on the spring/shock combo. Mine's a 95. So they are coil overs without compression settings, correct? Suspension is double wishbone. I mean you don't need an alignment after replacing the units, technically it's not a bad idea because ride height can change but there are no adjustments like with my Subaru where there are cams in the front since they are struts.

Nope they are as strut as any strut could be. The big difference on Honda is at the bottom of the strut where it fits into the “U” shaped piece referred to as a wishbone. That is very different from most other strut systems but other than that it’s just like all the other strut systems. There are very few cars with strut suspension that have a caster adjustment provision and some don’t even have camber adjustment without modification. Coil over shocks never have any adjustments other than spring rate because they don’t position the wheel.Pat

Goss' Garage - Auto Repair & Maintenance, Lanham - Seabrook Maryland Thanks learned something. I always heard they weren't struts because double wishbone. Also, I thought so because there is no suspension collapse when the units are removed, the wheel stays in place vs. my Subaru which collapses without the unit. Thanks for the clarification!
