When you get disabled next year and have to hire help to care for you because you are injured doing something stupid like turning lifting a stool. Oops there goes a disc in your lower back you never knew was weak. Or shoveling, car accident that is totally your fault. Tell me that you are always good and awake. You have no one to take care of you because you sound like a total dickhead. Also your friends abandoned you because Bitcoin tanked. Did you remember to put your name on the section 8 list. Good luck with your life.

I live in a S8 apartment in another state and as long as the management gets their money from Uncle Sam (and my rent portion), they could care less about the condition of someone’s apartment until the problems become a health/safety issue and even then they still drag their collective asses to fix the problem. I’ve had seven leaks (from upstairs apt) that literally had water pooling on my floor for *days* before anyone came to take care of it, had patches of black mold, have had mouse swimming in my toilet at 2 AM, I recently found an opossum in my closet, it takes *months* to get AC/heat looked at and if anything happens after 5 pm Friday to Monday AM, there’s no on site maintenance staff over the weekend.

OMG 😳 I could not imagine treating one of my tenants like this. I had a tenant that got water damage from their own negligence. The repair company said that it would take about two weeks to dry it out and repair it. I felt so bad I put the tenant up in a luxury hotel room for that two weeks and prorated their rent. Owners like this are a disgrace. Saying a prayer for this lady.

Did you open an insurance claim or did you pay out of pocket to resolve that issue? Our tenants flooded our house, didn’t let us know right away, we opened an insurance claim and paid for new floors (the rest was covered by the insurance). The tenants didn’t want to take responsibility so we took them to court. They sued as back in return, we won, they lost and they are still not paying and continue living in the house (they are paying rent). I have to mention that we didn’t charge them a late fee twice (they paid almost two weeks late one time and then another time they split the rent into two payments). * They are not section 8.

The exterminator was a rude chunky biscuit eater whom didn't want to do the job properly. I then called code enforcement, which turned out to be an exercise in futility. ...lastly, I contacted the sect8 dept & got a new voucher bcuz the unit was deemed to be uninhabitable. Ms McDaniel, it saddens me to know this is what's happening to United States citizens this day & age, yet, billions are given to other countries willy nilly. You can tell she is clean and takes pride in her things. Thank you for putting her story out there! Section 8 is paying for a one bedroom apt when she is practically living in a studio. This is definitely neglect on the apartments side. She has rights as a tenant wether or not she's on section 8 they are taking advantage of that and knowing she is elderly is just another reason for cause to take them to court. Contact the news station and tell them your situation. Call the city of phoenix again. Speak to a manager and tell them you made the complaint on (date). The complaint will be logged, an inspector will then be assigned the case, a pre notification letter will be sent out in 48 hrs and an inspection will be conducted within 10 days. You can also call the landlord tenant hotline for assistance. Keeping documentation is exactly what you need to do. There's a form you need to fill out and send it to them certified. I don't remember the form off the top of my head but the landlord tenant hotline will help you. I hope this situation gets rectified cuz this is not right!

I'm extremely proud of you for taking time to show viewers how people are living. Kudos to you👍🏽. My oldest daughter was pregnant with her oldest daughter. She had continuous problems with a sewage backup Because she was expecting, that could've been a major health issue for both my daughter & unborn granddaughter. They ( we thought) eventually fixed the problem. One night my daughter & my grandbaby walked into her apartment. Feces was at the front door. All of my granddaughters items, basinet, clothes, toys ( all brand new ,tags still on them)were destroyed. She had her belongings put up in closet. Maintenance came in the next day, sucked up the sewage, poured Clorox on the floor and turned on the fan. Then they told her everyone that lived in her building (8 units) sewage flowed into her apartment. No they didn't stay in the apartment when they saw it. Thank GOD her husband's family was trying to sell his great grandparents home. So they are living there. It's beautiful. I don't live in the city my daughter lives in, but best believe ,not only did I get on maintenance, and the apartment supervisor but I also called Housing Authority. I wish they would've taken pictures, but it was unhealthy for anyone to go in there. PLEASE, I don't care where you live, if you are paying rent or not you have to ADVOCATE for yourself. They won't live like that and they shouldn't expect for others to have to live like that. You advocate , call them, call housing, call the local news etc. Keep fighting until they put you in a habitable apartment or find you another complex. PLEASE DONOT GIVE UP. If you call your local news and they come out there, they ( housing) will get to work and so will the sorry uncaring asses that work in the office They wouldn't have their jobs if people didn't need a roof over their heads. I'm not talking about a leaky roof. Best luck to you mam. Once again, don't give up .call them or go to office everyday if you must. I pray you find someplace safe & comfortable soon. God Bless🙏🏽. Sending blessings to the young man for doing this interview and bringing more awareness to how sorry Housing Authority is. 🙏🏽💯♥️👍🏽

People say well didn’t you make a 401 or retirement or anything. I'm on Section 8 I had a roof leak also. Now I can look forward to being homeless and they will rent it out to another Section 8 victim and fix nothing! I've been living where I live for 14 years I'm a good tenant unless I asked to have something fixed in 14 years it's been leaking since I lived here only when it rains really hard and a Section 8 inspector comes and he doesn't say what it is but he sends a letter to the landlord and says I'm going to be shut off if you don't fix it but he doesn't say what to fix cuz HUD is the problem! They don't care if you live in substandard housing if someone owns a lot of homes! It's the rich Republican head of the Republican GOP where I live in Batavia New York that is my landlord and his name is on my ballot! And they're going to try to make me homeless cuz I complained but other people that are not handicapped and have one leg and panic attacks and BTSD they're not on the program they have rights that I don't have like to withhold rent until something is fixed and they cannot make you move by the law! Section 8 has their own substandard rules they don't look at problems they look away from problems if you're a big landlord if you're a little landlord they will take your house if you don't fix the roof and give it to a slumlord for a very affordable price cuz I've seen it happen! My friend lost his house because it was i n his family for 70 years. The city told him to put a roof on he did but they told him he didn't tear off the roof and he didn't have the money to tear off the roof and do it all over again so he lost his home and it's a HUD home now! And all I asked was to have a roof leak fixed that is really substandard I don't see anything leaking but it's probably not raining. Well mine only leaks when it rains really hard and you could smell it in the walls

It's called Affordable dwelling units. Same with ownership - new builders must set aside a number of homes for the county's buyers program for low and middle income. The white area on the wood in the rafters IS mold. So is the black substance on the insulation. I had my ceiling start collapsing while I was still living in my apartment after a heavy snowfall. They dragged their feet on everything. (Not this property.) My carpet also mildewed and had to be replaced. It took 4 months from the time it happened for them to finish repairs during the middle of winter. I'm not on section 8. I had friends that were and they left their apartments longer than my 4 months. I really hope something that can be done for this woman. She deserves to be safe and healthy in her apartment.

Sadly this is happening everywhere. I myself had a case just like this in 2016 where my roof collapsed and it rained in the entire apartment. I contacted my apartment ppl and I was told the same thing. I contacted the Texas Apartment Association and I also took pictures and emailed them to my apartment’s corporate office. They were unaware because my apartment ppl never reported and I also found out the property manager was never made aware of the living conditions. My apartment in their system was vacant and was set for renovations for the new office. I brought their corporate office up to my apartment and I was issued a full refund of my rent and deposit with an apology and ofcourse I had my lawyer present

There were over 12 HQS inspections that missed 5+ epa health and safety violations for potential carbon monoxide poisoning. I just found this out last month in September. I was diagnosed with co poisoning by my doctor last winter too. My landlords attorney replied to legal aid as if it wasn't a problem at first because hqs never discovered these violations. Our entire only bathroom ceiling caved in due to the guy upstairs. We were out in a hotel for a month. It had a pool too! We didn’t mind it. It was like a family adventure. Also, if they put you in a hotel, it’ll make them hurry it up to fix your home also, so they don’t have to keep footing an extra hotel bill, on top of the repairs, also the loss of rent being paid, and the professional clean.

I am super picky, and I guarantee you that I would be throwing a fit everyday. They would fix it or get so sick of me, that they let me move. Telling her to get her emotions in check, are you kidding me? Unacceptable. That is crazy, see if your doctor can write a note on a prescription pad that you can't stay there due to your health. If you have another place in mind, tell them you want out of your lease. I've never heard of you having to stay in an uninhabitable place. I get inspected yearly and if my landlord doesn't fix stuff, we are free to move without penalty. That property should loose their funding.

In Arizona one may also issue “emergency repair demands” with a 5-10 day time limit on them (depending on the urgency). If the repair isn’t done within that timeframe, up to $300 (per month) may be withheld from rent and spent on completing the listed repairs (keep receipts/use licensed contractor where necessary). The intent to spend money on incomplete repairs (after the stated timeframe) should be evident in the written demands. ER repair demands must be served just like other legal paperwork (both in person/taped to door with a photo taken & by certified mail). Filing ER repair notices against landlords also shows the urgency of the matter, for outsiders (like the court) looking in. Edit: I think the kind lady in the video isn’t able to control the outcome of her situation quite the same, because she’s using section 8. She doesn’t have direct control over the incoming funds, therefore, she cannot leverage the funds to her benefit, regarding needed repairs.
