Don Bradley is truly the Elvis of LDS history. But, what surprised me more is his biblical understanding and the connections he makes with the BoM. 116 pages is the most influential book on the BoM to date. It radically helped me appreciate the text and the translation process in new ways. I can’t recommend more Bradleys work and the game changer it is. Before anyone bails out of belief in the BoM PLEASE AT LEAST READ Don’s book. You will not be sorry!!!

Nah, there are too many of my LDS clan that are bailing. Nothing is going to stop the Momo numbers dropping like a rock. My local ward is considering closing. It is just not the 116 lost page fiasco. There is so much goofy stuff in the BOM story that is getting out as the historical artifacts are being published on the internet. Yet the only response is smoke and mirrors like this video, no substance, just nice stories or hipster scarcasm.

I've read that in the days of Lehi and Nephi there was a continuing problem with bandits and thieves. The law was interpreted in such a way that even ordinary citizens had a duty to capture or kill known bandits and thieves. Therefore, Nephi had a duty to kill Laban. It makes sense to me since Laban called Nephi and his brothers bandits and thieves to justify stealing their riches

Translated the Bible many more pages per day…. now add to that the fact that half of the pages of the Book of Mormon that were translated we don’t have… that doubles the speed it which he translated the Book of Mormon…Astounding!

The professor gave us historical accounts, but the time in terms of years were after the destruction of the second emple in 70 CE. So to get the real AD year we had to subtract 70 years.

On the first episode of Jordan Peterson’s Exodus videos ~ Watch Prager’s introduction. He says something to the effect of “I’m not interesting in how the Torah came to be, only in its authorship.” I loved his boundary and transparent “I’m not here to argue how the stones did this prove how they went from this cave to this king etc. I believe God authored them and I will speak from this vantage point.” I’m kinda there w the BOM. Read the D&C 10 in which Joseph spoke about the stolen pages. He says that god "warned him" that his enemies were going to change the lost pages and "falsely accuse" JS of mistranslation, so that is why he should not translate them again. BUT how could they do that since he wrote the missing pages in his own handwriting?

Forgery is a strong possibility. Look up this guy: Mark William Hofmann (born December 7, 1954) is an American counterfeiter, forger, and convicted murderer. Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished forgers in history, Hofmann is especially noted for his creation of fake documents related to the history of the Latter Day Saint movement. My thoughts are that either what we have in the BofM is sufficient at this time and/or the lost manuscript is still around (not destroyed), which is why it still is not been re-translated and added. Remember, there’s still a large portion of the Gold Plates that were sealed? Until the world gives the BofM its due respect and study it and believe in it, we won’t likely see what’s been sealed until after the Saviour comes again.

@@ItsSnagret By no means. Rather, the loving God who gives people the ability to choose, but relentlessly pursues them, even to a brutal death on a cross and the flames of hell. And what does he ask? Only that you acknowledge His nature of being the only true God, lover and sustainer of all, who loved you enough to die brutally in your place on a cross? BTW, nowhere does God condone polygamy. In the OT, on rare occassion, he deals with cultural sin as He leads them back into his original plan (See Genesis) of 1 man and 1 woman.

If Joseph Smith was inspired to translate the gold plates as he claimed, he should have been able to reproduce the translation of the lost pages by the same inspiration. Joseph’s handling of the problem of the missing pages shows that his driving concern was to blunt any criticisms from his detractors, a concern uncharacteristic of genuine prophets of God. Joseph’s claim that he had disobeyed God in allowing Martin Harris to take the manuscript home contradicts his claim that the Lord gave him permission to do so. The problem of the missing manuscript prompted Joseph to issue his first two modern revelations, in effect transforming him from inspired translator to new prophet. The missing manuscript was in all probability destroyed, most likely by Martin’s wife, so that Joseph’s claim that wicked men had the manuscript in their possession and had altered it to make Joseph out to be a fraud is most likely false. Had wicked men actually possessed the missing manuscript, it is very unlikely that they would have altered it, since to do so would invite accusations of tampering and they had no reason to think that Joseph could possibly have reproduced the manuscript correctly. Joseph’s admission that he tried hard to find the missing manuscript but did not know who had it or where it was is not consistent with his claims that an angel revealed to him the location of the gold plates and that God spoke to him. Joseph’s claim, after the loss of the 116 pages, that God had inspired Nephi two thousand years earlier to produce a parallel account in order to circumvent the plot of Joseph’s enemies, is simply too incredible and convenient to take seriously.
