Shocking News About 90% Silver. They Keep Saying, Buy It! Why I Don’t Believe Them. Unspoken Truth

First of all, I want to say that I do stack 90% silver coins. I love junk silver, it has history, it is fractional and just fun to have. I have all the denominations, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars. I mostly have half dollars. I am not saying don’t stack them, they are silver at least the real ones as you know there are fakes out there. In today’s video I want to share with you what I learned about 90% silver, or constitutional silver coins or junk silver coins. As we do refer to these coins in many different ways. 19,200,000,000 90% silver coins minted from 1792 to 1964. This is from my research.

    In the last 20 years or so I remember a few times when there was surges of silver buying and the 90% silver was always the first to sell out. That should tell you something. I know a guy that has bought over 10,000 mercury dimes years ago for cheap....now he sells them individually for $2 for culls/slicks and $3 on up for good ones...some he has sold for $30 plus each. I think he paid like 50 cents each for them way back 20 years ago. He also sells quarters and halves. He has thousands of Walking Liberty's he got for a few bucks each...some sell for $50-$100 each. When we look back 20 years from now we will say remember when you could buy a Franklin for $10, now they are $80

    The issue is dealers think that junk silver inherently has a high premium associated with it because of this supposed scarcity. Junk silver, not being point 999 pure enough itself should lend it to be As close to spot if not under.

    Some of it, like if you buy walking dollars in XF + . coins only become numismatic when there is low mintage combined with a rare amount of XF+ coins around. I would consider a kennedy 1964 for example to be a straight bullion coin because they minted like 500 million of them, that is a higher mintage than even modern bullion issues , it might become numismatic in 1000 yrs time lol .

I’m a small dealer, and it’s so difficult to not inflate the price especially with eBay fees and shipping. For me, the difference between 90% Silver Coins, Silver Eagles, Silver Rounds, and Silver Bars is liquidity. Historically 90% Silver Coins were the most liquid or easier to buy and sell. The numismatic community is slow to accept change. 90% silver has acquired a numismatic value that it did not have in the past much like the older silver type coins. I can recall in the 1990s that Silver Eagles were treated just like Silver Rounds. I can recall the premiums for 1 oz Silver rounds being .80 cents per ounce and Silver Eagles being $1.00 per coin. In the early 2000s, I recall that Silver Eagles were being professionally graded. I can recall that Silver Rounds and Silver Bars were everywhere at large coins shows. Of course the 1 oz Silver Rounds were more liquid than the 1 oz to 10 oz Silver Bars. I have no idea how this liquidity might change in the future. For me a heavily circulated 1964 90% silver quarter would buy a gallon of gas or a chicken in 1964. The silver value of this same quarter will still buy a gallon of gas or a chicken.

The rest of the time buying silver, you'll likely be underwater for a long time waiting for the SELL BACK WHOLESALE price to get back to the break even price for what you paid for it originally. Once you have or already have an adequate silver stack in place wait to buy more until the retail price of silver dips deeply.

    No post-1988 milk spots on junk silver, and no blame if you dip it to make it look nice, plus the 10% copper content gives it a great musical ring. Not all dealers carry bulk 90% silver, and you do have to watch prices, but it is out there. Also, when an LCS says they can get you a large order, they usually pull it in through their own wholesale sources.

    When there's a run on silver, for instance when the price went to $26 recently, the First thing to run out online and at the local coin store is what? EVERYTIME it is Junk Silver. Tons and Tons of these coins were melted down over the years. $200,000 worth at a big online dealer is really not that much. That equals approx. 1,000 rolls of quarters. Check these same resources when things get tight and the price goes up a bit. The first thing to run out again will be junk silver.

    Is it even worth to buy junk silver if it is plentiful and many coin shops and online dealers are selling it ? Would it be worth more to buy coins that have limited mintage, coins that are mint state rather than worn out coins that have been used again and again ?

  • @dolltron6965

    @dolltron6965

    7 ай бұрын

    The problem with numismatics is that it is very very rare that the person selling it doesn't know it's value, so if you buy low mintage XF+ and BU coins as long as they have not been cleaned (cleaned coins= numismatic death) you will pay a massive premium . If you are a young person and those things sit in a safe for 40 yrs it MIGHT be worth it since future collectors will be looking for the XF+ coins and they might be in shorter supply . TBH for numismatics i'd say buy low mintage NGC graded Morgans in MS64 and above. But don't make it a major part of savings.

    @@CashAndCoinsYT my opinion is the best deal on silver right now is Charles III coronation brittanias (200k limited mintage) or Charles III coronation coins (150k limited mintage). Premiums are not much higher than other bullion but the limited mintage plus the crowned portrait of Charles on the coronation coins (versus uncrowned portraits on all other UK and commonwealth currency moving forward) means numismatic value has the potential of developing. I think owning some junk silver is smart so you can sell small fractional amounts in the event silver really breaks out, but agree you don't want to pay a large premium over the melt price.

    I respectfully disagree with much of your position on junk silver. first of all, they're not making any more. 2nd, from the 1970s through the 1990s, billions and billions and billions of junk silver was melted. Most all Coin shops and precious metal retailers (having no real use for Junk silver at the time) would send all their constitutional silver to be melted. There were huge warehouses filled with 55 gallon barrels, that were filled with constitutional silver to be melted. 3rd, a significant amount of junk silver was lost or turned into jewelry or buried and forgotten. About 10 years ago I was paying about 11-13 times face value for junk silver. 10 years later the price is doubled+. Supply and demand dictate price. 100 price increase over 10 years suggests the junk silver Supply is not what it used to be. Whether there's a lot of junk silver out there or not, a junk silver dime is twice as valuable as it was 10 years ago.

    Billions of these coins have been melted, the real national debt no one knows but the admitted debt is 34 trillion dollars. 34 trillion seconds is over a million years ago. The older silver coins were never minted in such huge numbers. If you had a choice to choose a silver dime or a dollar you would be a fool not to choose the dime. It has been 60 plus years since these coins were minted no one knows how many are left. If you believe market forces the high price represents their rarity. I think you are under estimating their true value, there are billions of people if we stopped making people how many people would be have in 60 plus years. How many of this junk silver coins are now in Silver Eagle, Rounds, solar cells or electric circuits. I contend that the small amount left is just slowly circulating around as their value goes up and up. These same bags of 1000 face are resold when spot silver increases or the holder dies and family members cash out.
