I had a 2017 Honda and the trans burned up pulling a empty 6x12 ATV trailer. Guessing it was 800lb -900lb. It was a hot summer day and was on the highway 66 going west and the road was rolling hills. Honda changed the fluid 2 times for free and I sold it after the 3rd time. The trans light comes on and you will need to Pull over for an hour. Nice truck but don’t use it to pull anything, the Trans is a joke. But as a small daily or weekend truck it’s the one to get. I asked Honda CORP to fix or replace and they said nothing. I own a tundra now.GMC is nice just to hard to get it in a white Diesel.

@@bryantward677 You are the second person I've read to have this problem. I am guessing that might be the reason why they changed the transmission for 2020. Now they are using the 9 speed from ZF which has not been as reliable but maybe they worked out the bugs?

I always looked down at the Ridgeline and laughed it off as a wanna be. But as I look at it and if I’m honest about what I use a truck for everyday, the Ridgeline makes more sense to me. And a $20,000 difference in cost is a game changer. I’m going to seriously think about the Ridgeline.

I have 8 acres of land I live on and maintain. I have never towed more than 3500lbs with my trailer. Unless I get livestock at some point I can't imagine why I'd need more.

I was shopping for a full size and ended up researching and test driving the ridgeline...one of the best vehicles I have ever driven and owned. The rear 'trunk' is extremely useful and the ride and interior is very comfortable. New full size trucks have become too damn big.

2017 rtl-t owner, love it. My father owned 3/4 tons and laughed, until we used it to tow a 19 foot camper on a hunting trip with an atv in the bed. The ride, reasonable towing weight, and interior sold him on it being a real truck. He wants to replace my mom's outback with one someday.

Hi Phillip. I'm from the land of trucks - Texas (now living in the Northeast.) When I got the Ridgeline, ALL my truck friends made fun of me. "It's a wimpy truck" "It doesn't off-road." "It doesn't tow 10,000 pounds." Well, it rides like a dream, the bed is big enough to carry my ATV and it pulls my boat. Plus, it's comfortable for my kids in the back when I'm hauling them to baseball/hockey. AAAANNNND - those tight parking spaces in town? Not a problem. Look - I get it - it's not as "bad-ass" looking as a Tacoma, but it's safe, rides well, and gets good gas mileage. Would I love a Ram Rebel? ABSOLUTELY! Is it practical right now? No. Now, about that Ford Bronco...

At 72 years of age I have had a pickup in my driveway for most of those years and have owned a good cross section of everything that has been available. I always thought that an all wheel drive version of an El Camino or Ranchero with an extended cab, a bit of ground clearance and decent payload capacity would be the perfect truck for me 99% of the time. Enter my 2017 Honda Ridgeline, it hits all my wants and may very well be the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I was. 10 years old when you were born and I agree the Ridgeline ‘19 black edition is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

It’s a bit confusing that the Ridgeline isn’t ‘manly’ looking, but these same bros complain about the non-damping tailgate.

I just went from a 17 Tundra TRD off-road to a 2020 Ridgeline RTLE and absolutely love it. The ride is unbelievably good. The handlings is again really good. It’s the most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned truck or car. It’ll tow my track car to the track, gets great mileage and actually hauls ass. It’s nowhere near as good as my Tacoma off-road but god dam it’s such a nice Place to be. Oh and the rear trunk is super super useful.

I have a 2017 Ridgeline RTL-T. I pull my 18 foot boat with no problem. I have pulled my trailer filled with 2yrds of fill dirt. I have also pulled my trailer with a pallet of 18x18 pavers. Never a problem. Drove to NY and back to FL with 5 people. Everyone was comfortable and averaged 28 mpg doing 75-80. I have 67,000 miles on it so far

My 2016 MDX share a lot of parts as your Ridgeline, and I have also towed so much just like you. My MDX probably towed more in 4 years than the average 'TRUCK' manly driver. But as my towing needs increased to 10K lbs, I just recently got a Tundra. But I do really like the 2021 Ridgeline. Only if I didn't have to tow more than 4k lbs.

I also hauled a ton with mine. If you know how to load it will do well. Tires are also huge in ride quality. I learned the hard way buying a cheap set and the vehicle was all over the road. Wish they did a hybrid version.

With the face-lift for the 2021 ridgeline I think they addressed the biggest issue.

I went from a Tundra to a Ridgeline. I really liked the Tundra but when it was time to get a new one in 2018 I just couldn't bring myself to buy another Tundra until it gets an update. Most of my driving is commuting to and from work, with an occasional weekend warrior project or camping trip. I don't tow anything, so the Ridgeline works very well, it fits in my garage and gets on average 20 mpg. It's a really nice car/truck.

Owning a 17 Silverado High Country 6.2L and going to a Ridgeline no thanks. I test drove one before i bought this in 2017. I don't tow and rarely haul anything. As far as reliable the HC is treating me well. Just can't get past the appearance of a Ridgeline reliable or not sorry.

@@horuslupercal3872 Sure. Any fan site is going to have people post their problems. Go to a GMC site and the ration of Honda to GMC will make your head explode. Guarantee on average the Honda will last longer, have better resale value, and keep you away from the dealer.

Your view is extremely misguided because there's nothing wrong with GM's reliability. Honda has great reliability, so does GM.

Another point about the Ridgeline is its in-city maneuverability compared to the bigger truck standards. I own an older model Ridgeline and a Ram truck, and use them for different purposes but the Ridgeline is the go to for daily city life.

I have a 2019 Ridgeline, with VTEC kicking in, it truly feels like a sports car.

I had a 2019 Ram 1500, pretty low end trim model but still flippen expensive. I was feeling a little duped by the dealer, so was looking to change who I was doing business with and came across the Ridgeline. It finally dawned on me that 1. I rarely need to tow anything much less something more than 5000 lbs. 2. I rarely need to haul anything more than fits in the back of a Ridgeline 3. The bed of a Ridgeline is damn near the same as a full size crew cab. 4. Which other truck as the two way bed door AND a trunk in the bed? 5. Way more features and fuel economy for the money in a Ridegline. I really am glad I got this thing!

Funny, when I bought my Honda Ridgeline, it looked and drive too clean, like a luxury car than a truck. I never wanted a truck, and when I needed one, I still refused to buy one, until I saw what looked like a jeep, yet it appeared more like SUV, but it was the perfect truck for me. Not wanting to stress over every scratch, or for every heavy load. Which is the whole point of buying a truck in the first place. As much as I tried not to drive it like a luxury car, I couldn't help drive it any other way, it was that smooth. At first glance, ppl would always ask why I didn't get this truck or that truck? My answer was always the same, Jeep, SUV, but a truck, perfect for me. Never been one to show off, nor did it ever cross my mind of how many ppl were bothered by me owning a Honda Ridgeline truck. Once they were in, they had nothing but good words to say & were impressed by its design? At each stop light, those never driven in one always asked if the truck was a hybrid bc they couldn't hear, or feel anything and also thought I had shut off the truck? When I needed the luxury of a jeep, suv, or just plain silence, I had it that way. And when I needed a truck with power, it behaved like a truck, over bumps, curves and just recently out of a drive thru, over it like nothing. What truck does this? Smooth, quiet, even in tough terrain; when I needed a truck, I just had it like that! Ppl now a days buy trucks for storage, decor, or when lacking, nothing more. Louder than the coloring designer touch up job on today's truck, is the owner hopping while vibrating in these rattling noise makers that spell,"You can look, but don't touch me, luxury wanna be!" So to this guy saying that the Ridgeline doesn't look like a Man's truck? Perception is your thing, & so is Isabellatrok! I just never liked trucks period; I just got it like that!

For 95% of us the Ridgeline is what you need. Great for work and family alike. The ride is buttery smooth. You don't know you're in a pick up and the waterproof 'trunk' in the bed is very handy. Another feature I like is the wheel wells do not protrude into the bed - you get the full volume of the bed. The new 2021 has a more masculine grill for those highly sensitive low esteem phony macho males.

The way i look at it, it takes more balls to own a vehicle that doesn't look as "manly" as some people want it to look, and most of them don't have the balls to get it and admit that it does everything they use their "manly" trucks for, which is why they would rather shit on it.

I'm on my second AWD Ridgeline and for a general purpose "around town" truck its hard to beat. Its definitely not an off-road vehicle due to its limited ground clearance. As far as MPG, it consistently beats the EPA ratings. I have gotten as high as 28 MPG on the highway at 70 MPH with A/C on. Although the Ridgeline is rated for 5000 pound towing, I personally would not exceed 3500 pounds or so just to be on the safe side. One of the best features of Honda's AWD system is its ability to asymmetrically distribute the power between the 4 wheels when needed. While all other AWD systems (except Acura) distribute equal amounts to the front and rear (e.g., 75% front, 25% rear), Honda can vary the amount of power to individual wheels. My current Ridgeline is a 2017 and doesn't have as much power as the 2020 and has a 6 speed transmission, its still a very zippy vehicle. I've owned 4 Ford F150s over the last 20 years and although I miss the larger bed size, overall the Ridgelines have served me very well.

Lazerbeam.....I have worked at a Honda dealership since 2003 and I have noticed that our Rigdeline customers are usually very knowledgeable buyers. Most already know the truck inside and out. I think the older body style was more of a truck, but the newer Ridgelines are great in their own way.

@don wilson I have a 2017 Ridgeline and did have a 2017 Pilot AWD (traded the Pilot for a new Odyssey) and have only driven them in very light snow in east Texas and West Tennesse. I could not tell any difference between normal highway and snow driving. I did not even bother to select the "Snow" setting for the AWD. They are essentially the same basic vehicle with the having a frame integrated into the Ridgeline's uni-body. I would imagine that the type of tires would make a big difference in heavier snow than I've driven in. The AWD system will shift the power to individual wheels that have the most traction rather than splitting it up between front and rear. With the paddle shifters one can control the gearing of the tranny that works best for the road conditions. My Ridgeline has the old 6 speed and the Pilot had a 9 speed. FYI; two points to consider. The AWD has 4 modes that are selectable: Normal, Sand, Mud, and Snow. Apparently it does modify the drive train characteristics based on the selected mode. Also the the Ridgeline has very little ground clearance, so driving on dirt roads (or off road) where there are deep tire ruts is out of the question. I can attest to that with $1360 worth of damage to front end plastics and a hole in exhaust pipe. I wouldn't trade it for any of the new mid-sized trucks though except maybe a 2020 or 2021 Ridgeline.

I put the truck in snow mode and made it to my destination 30 minutes away early, all while passing up stranded vehicles. I live in MO

Actually it does not distribute 5050 all the time. It is a fwd default vehicle with active torque vectoring and a elocker rear limited slip dif. It’s an active system and very good, much better than the passive systems of old Hondas where they relied on newtonian fluids to turn slip into traction of their awd systems. Plus this new one with the zf9 has the gearing low of a tundra in 2nd gear 4lo. Pretty good

The 2021 Ridgeline HPD looks fantastic. I have the 2019 Ridgeline and its a great truck. Looking forward to the new model.

I watched several of your videos and just bought the 2020 Ridgeline. Thanks for the info made my decision easier. It is the same color and trim level as the one you tested. The biggest problem so far is getting it from my wife to drive.

My sister-in-law bought the Ridgeline about a month ago and she loves it. It rides like a car and get good MPG. For the average home owner going to Home Depot for DYI projects its great light duty vehicle.

The ridgeline is a wicked truck. Once you drive one and see what its capable of you know for fact. Owned one of the first gens, one of best vehicles ever owned.

I drive about two to three hundred miles a day with my job. I actually wanted the at-4 Sierra. But then the Ridgeline came up on my radar. I love the truck for what I do the storage area is perfect for carrying the instrumentation I need to carry without having a toolbox. I love my Ridgeline until I pull up next to a real truck! LOL Lotta Love about both of these trucks.

That GMC is a good looking truck especially in the AT4 trim, but I'll keep my '18 Ridgeline RTL-T. The Ridgeline is, for me, and my needs, the most useable pickup I've ever owned. And reliability to boot. Interesting that folks cross-shop these two.

Out of the midsize trucks the ridgeline and GMC/Chevrolet are the ones closest in price and size. Since I have a family of three (my wife, kid, and I) and I don't want a full size truck I've been doing my research. All my research has led me to these two as far as interior space and comfort is involved. The Ridgeline while being a little more expensive is better on gas, has a better interior, everyone says it rides the best, has the in bed trunk, etc. I don't tow much and I never plan to tow over 5000 pounds so the Ridgeline looks like the right choice to me. If I was in my mid 20's instead of 33 I would laugh at the Ridgeline since it isn't a "real truck". Now I'm older and more mature I look at it differently. Honda hit it out of the park with the Ridgeline and I look forward to owning one soon.

Vairon 1200ryder I came from two older F-150’s and most recently a 2015 RAM 1500 Laramie Quad cab. The Ram was nice but, to me, simply wasn’t as practical as the Ridgeline. I agree, when I was younger the big trucks were “cooler” but now, at 55, it’s all about practicality. You will not be disappointed in the Ridgeline should you go that direction. Good luck.

@Jbulandr Be careful getting that close (3500 lbs) to the max tow rating of 5000 lbs with AWD. If you have anything in your boat, or oassengers or cargo in your Ridgeline, you can go over the GVWR and the max tow rating. Invest in some time reading about tow ratings and GVWR and you will see what I mean. Exceeding it can make for a dangerous situation. And, yes, while the Ridgeline WILL tow the 5000 lbs, or 3500 lbs in your case, it's all about towing EASILY. Even with 3500 lbs, a Ridgeline will be MUCH more stressed than a full size pickup and will last less over time. Just something to consider. Even with "just " 3500 lbs, you are much better off towing with a full size truck that is understressed than with the Ridgeline that is much more stressed. It's the equivalent of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his glory days pulling 500 lbs up a hill vs the high school athlete doing it. Yes, both CAN do it but Arnold can do it MUCH easier.

I have the 2017 Ridgeline and live in Canada. I consistently get between 7.5 - 8.5 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway, which is over 30 mpg in imperial gallons, best ever is 37 mpg (not sure what that is in US gallons but I think it would be just a couple of mpg’s less as US gallon is just a little smaller than imperial). It’s all the ‘truck’ 80 or 90% of people would need. It is fine off pavement, not good for rough off road rock crawling, but if that’s your thing you wouldn’t be looking at a Ridgeline anyway. The AWD is excellent in our snowy winters. The only complaint I have with Ridgeline is there are almost no aftermarket ‘toys’ to make this a good non tent camping vehicle. With the short bed and the trunk, a fibreglass truck cap is the only thing available from only a couple of manufacturers, neither one of which is really good. It is very hard to weather proof the truck cap or tonneau cover. With the trunk and the bed design in general, there are no small or lightweight slide in campers that would work. I love the comfort, the size and drive and the fuel economy but still may have to trade to a different brand to do the truck camping I want to. Yes, I didn’t think about or worry about the camping idea when I bought it, but now I am retired and have the time get away. PS - I have only had compliments about the backseat comfort from adults that have ridden back there, comfortable and plenty of space.

I bought a used 07 Ridgeline. It does everything I need and is a pleasure to drive. What is really good is the AWD system. Hammer the throttle in the rain and it gets traction right away. This is a good thing when you need it in an intersection. The engine compartment has A LOT of space to work on the engine. The locking storage trunk in the box is FABULOUS.

Wanda Tolbert I think you have it wrong. I have restored cars and the cars with good interior plastics are cars up North. UV radiation degrades plastics. Cold shrinks everything naturally but it will not make it brittle. Still I am not an expert on the ozone holes in atmosphere so perhaps there is an area up North that got more rays. Also remember every vehicle is different. Arizona and Texas cars all get tinted which protects while northern cars may not and so you get more UV damage through unprotected glass.

The "cooler" is actually an in bed trunk. You can use it for more than storing beer and water. I keep straps and bungee cords back there as well as a tow hitch and such. It's a great space.

Keep first aid kit, jumper cables, tow cables, emergency blanket, and extra warm clothes or boots! And still have room for tool box, and tow hitch, & tie downs! Still have room for ammunition at the range! The back seat folds up, and has room for your long guns and scopes with stands, while being locked up with your key fob! The back doors open wide enough to find what you’re looking for, including your targets, all the while everything is on the floor, not on the back seat, waiting for you to step on the brake, and everything falling on each other! It’s been very handy for me! I put the Honda OEM tonneau cover on it, so I’m loving the whole setup! Plenty of room for a real cooler, and camping gear! I’m the only driver, so I don’t need to keep adjusting the seat, had a sliding rear & roof window, but didn’t use them, so wouldn’t get them again. The Sport trim package was more than enough, when you can hook up your smart phone!

The Ridgeline is the truck made for those who want a truck but don't need a truck. It will fill the need for over 90% of those looking for a truck.

@@ericksanchez7787 Maybe. 5000lbs is not much by the time you add the weight of, say a car or whatever, the trailer, and anything IN the car or ON the trailer besides the vehicle or whatever. A unibody "truck" is good for hauling hay bales and pulling LIGHT trailers, like those with a large lawn tractor on them. It adds up fast, believe me. I would say that MANY people do. My point is that it is VERY dangerous to tow anywhere close to the maximum rated tow limit. Doing so can cause instability, cooling issues etc - especially if you go over. It is MUCH BETTER to either tow 1000 lbs or less than the maximum tow limit or to have a VEHICLE that is rated to tow much MORE than what you are towing. I have seen, and heard of, too many disasters and accidents caused by people towing improperly. Bottom line: tow UNDER what the rating is, not CLOSE TO or OVER the rating.

@@scottandrews4822 while yes 5000lb is not much for a truck but it begs the question if you are looking for a truck to haul a trailer with a car or some larger tractors then why even consider the ridgeline what I don't understand it some people saying the ridgeline sucks because it doesn't tow that much but the thing is that it wasn't designed for heavy duty towing or towing its ment for someone that may occasionally need truck like versitality with the bed but don't want to make a sacrifice of ride and handling and also I believe the ridgeline is capable enough for the average truck buyer but don't want to get a "minivan" and want a "real truck" but hey their are people that need heavy duty level of hauling and towing and that's good but don't judge the ridgeline as if it's a full size body on frame pickup because it's not and it's not trying to be frankly it's kinda in it's own segment of pickups and the ridgeline has its niche buyers

@@ericksanchez7787 With that description, I agree totally. I think the Ridgeline is a great truck for the niche it's in, which as you correctly stated, is its own.

The only reason i have an f150 over the ridgeline is that i tow an 8500 lb travel trailer. The ridgeline could haul my quad and a trailer for the second quad just like the half ton does. Honda needs to come up with a half ton. Even if they stretch the Ridgeline out and up a little.

The Ridgeline has a lot more goodies you didn't cover. They compete quite well with the GMC at $20K less

2021 finally got the "truck look" it needed.

This caught my attention because I’m selling my GMC 2500 diesel and buying a new ridgeline.

I think that may be a testament to Honda’s engineering teams when their AWD system is that good 👍

the upcoming front end face lift makes the ridgeline look a lot tougher. Actually looks more like a tacoma.

I have a Ridgeline and it is great! It works for what I do. If you tow big then it is not for you. If you tow little or none and want a fantastic ride then check it out. Yeah I know it looks like a mini van in the front.

What does tow little mean? I want a 2021 RL but I want it to tow a R-Pod 190 at about 3500lbs total weight. Every forum I go to says I need a 1/2 ton pick up even for a small light weight travel trailer.

@@cameronelisha3573 I tow my 19' fiberglass boat with my 2006 Ridgeline with zero issues. The 2021 will handle 3500lbs easily. It has a total towing capacity of 4250 lbs. and a maximum payload capacity of 1452 - 1580 lbs.

Just curious as to why the Ridgeline isn’t being compared to an in-class GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado? I purchased my 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E for $36k, at almost half the cost of the Sierra being compared. I ruled out the Canyon and Colorado, because they aren’t offering a trim level equipped with tri-zone climate control for rear seat passengers. I have three daughters in the back seat that are cool on 104 Summer days and warm on 37 Winter days. All trim levels for the Ridgeline are standard with tri-zone climate control. Of 5’ small-beds, Ridgeline has the largest in-class, to include width as well. Canyon and Colorado require the 6’ long-bed upgrade to achieve a larger bed size than a Ridgeline. My Ridgeline handled a 1.5 cubic yard bucket of mulch/compost diagonally dropped corner-to-corner without any overspill. The Ridgeline also allows 4’x8’ plywood to lay flat on the deck between the tire wells, which most midsized can’t accomplish. The swing-gate tailgate’s single-hinge is what prevents the double-hinge dampening option. That’s an unfortunate trade off, but if safety around kids is needed, then use the swing-gate option. The in-bed trunk is genius with around 7 cubic feet of storage, which is close to my old Honda Odyssey. Probably 90% of my Costco/Sam’s groceries fit inside with only bulk paper goods/toiletries and soda/waters in bed. However a trunk light is needed since the cargo lamps are blocked when the Tonneau cover is latched. The compost is probably very near 1.5k lbs and I didn’t observe hardly any squat from the payload. The 2020 Ridgeline features a key fob lock/unlocked tailgate enabled in the infotainment. The trunk key fob controls remain inside the glovebox (left side), and should be moved to the infotainment as well. The 9-speed transaxle vastly outperforms my old Ridgeline’s 6-speed transaxle, and the new paddle-shifting feature is excellent for driving the Smokies or holding a gear under heavy payloads. The engine breaking is much better on the 9-speed as well. Clutching in/out is a little delayed while in manual shift mode, so you’ll want to lightly brake on downhill shifting. Once downshifted, little or no braking is needed at all, it’ll hold a steady speed. Honda’s 10-speed transaxle probably wouldn’t be available until 2022. The Ridgeline needs the hill assist or roll back protection features that are common to other Honda SUV. It’s also worth mentioning that Ridgeline doesn’t tow off their bumper for any trim level. It’s the only midsized pickup with a standardized tow package on all trim levels. This alone could save a grand or more, that’s an up charge on any other brand of pickup truck. Ridgeline also has the best crash test rating of any pickup truck in the US, regardless of classification. You’d think an off-road or work truck would handle impact better, but apparently other pickup trucks aren’t as tough as they’d like to sound. A freeway daily commuter is far safer picking up kids from daycare in a Ridgeline. It’s also one of the easiest rear bench seats to install a car seat into for babies or toddlers. It does however need the dual cup holders on the rear doors as seen on Pilot and Passport, since all three seats are occupied, I’m one cup holder short. Luckily, one car seat has it’s own cup holder. Supposedly, the 2021 Ridgeline will migrate away from Pilot’s eloquent styling and adopt the Passport’s more sporty and rugged front grill. Ridgeline does currently offer a more rugged honeycomb front grill with carbon fiber trimming upgrade option, but it’s almost $400 with installation.

Have a 2006 Ridgeline and love it!!!! 2nd generation definitely gets better MPG's.....most definitely considering upgrading to the 2021 model due the "manly" nose job it got!!!!!!!!! Update.....bought a 2017 RTL-T in June and absolutely LOVE it!!!! Does everything I need it to and rides so much better than the 06 I had(better MPG's too!!!)

I've had a 2019 Ridgeline sport for 6 months now. I must say its FAR MORE of a truck than I thought it was going to be. Most importantly its far easier to live with daily than my previous trucks. (last was a Ford Ranger) Recently drove 2400 miles taking the family on vacation and the trips average was 29.9mpg. Three people in the truck and the bed was loaded. I'd say 80% of those miles were 70mph on the freeway. And the other 20% was mixed everywhere from idling up to 55mph. My surprises in the Ridgeline have been: - It's very quiet as compared to all other trucks I've ever owned - Its very smooth as compared.. - It handles snow better as compared.. - The audio system is better (has very good BASS and highs up front) - The in bed trunk is what every truck should have! (get the optional dividers and net that goes in it) - It accelerates better (the 19 has the 6 speed w/shift lever. The 20+ has the 9speed w/push button) I have the lower grade sport version so there are some options that I wish I had. I wish mine had leather seats & rear AC controls. Otherwise.. I'd not change a thing. On my 2019 I got some options that I think are good and worth nothing - starting on 19 models you can get the heated steering wheel - I have the hard Honda tonneau cover - I have the all season rubber floor mats - I have the rear seat under storage tray - I have the tailgate lock - I have the in trunk dividers and cargo net There are 2 things I think are lacking. 1. The rear doors need to open wider (they fixed this for 2020) 2. There is no light in the underbed trunk. (w/o a hard cover the truck lid opens high enough and the bed light on the side *DO work*. But with a hard cover the lid doesn't lift high enough so its dark at night)

Get a stick on puck light for the rear trunk. Simple fix for a low price.

Formly from Metro Detroit, former "GM" engineer, managed machining/engineering for a major Nascar Team(Ford Team, in and out of many Ford facilites), had drove Chevy's/Fords and Dodge's for years. Toyota Tacoma's are great vehciles, but own a Ridgeline currently. Excellant vehicle!, best ride, size for the city, and perfoms basic hauling. Very view in todays world take their vehciles "off-road". In todays world the Ridgeline is the perfect all around vehcile, one of the best vehciles I have owned. I purchased a color matching cap (not cheap) for mine which makes it really stand-out. The wife is always amazed at the comments we recieve, and how individuals notice our vehcile...

Ridgeline is a game changer! That's why competitors hate it and haters tease it.

Looking at the WHITE black edition 2021 Ridgeline 😍. Maybe add a leveling kit to 2021 Ridgeline and it be good to go.

Honestly, my wife's 2003 Odyssey is more useful than my 2008 Tundra. However, I will always take the Tundra on recreational trips even though I know the Odyssey can do the same job with a lower price tag at the gas station. I'm actually considering a Ridgeline over a Tundra as my next truck.

It meets most needs. Another 500-1000lb towing capability would do wonders for its stature in the market.

Great Review! I can't wait to send to my dad, he will love it. I just bought a Ridgeline Black edition. I pick it up Friday. I am 5 feet tall and one of the things I like was not needing a ladder or struggling every time I need to get in. I actually like the smoother looking lines of it instead of the more butch truck. It has a Tonneau cover and I love the trunk. I love the tailgate swings out, because again, bending over a tailgate when you are short can be a challenge. Plus, I am hoping to get 200k miles on this like I did on my Toyota Rav4.

Thanks for your video and review, what I appreciate about your review most is information and engineering standards Honda implement based on not just US, but also international. Overall I love your show because it's more normal and not scripted and repetitive. I love my 2009 Ridgeline pickup truck and my 2017 Ridgeline pickup truck and have no need for a full size truck and if I do I can rent one

Always cheaper to rent something , then to buy something that you use very little.

Ridgeline suspension is different (bigger spindles) than the suv you think it is. Honda did a great job building the drive train to withstand the rigors of truck use!

I’m driving my GMC canyon for 16 years 180 thousand miles no major problems

Have the 2020 Ridgeline don't give a hoot about the looks its a great pickup. Buy the 2021 Ridgeline if looks are an issue. If your driving it every day around town shopping, errands whatever the Ridgeline is the way to go. More compact but roomy and comfortable inside much easier to park and drive in tight quarters. Reliable too.

I’m 67 and my wife is younger than me but has mobility issues, she wants a minivan an I want a truck. She’s not into camping or off-roading, I am so she seems to like the Ridgeline. So I get my truck, at 67 I just want to live life without drama, you guys know what I mean.

So I have a 2019 Honda Ridgeline RTL- E. I Installed a 3 and 1/2 inch TRAXDA suspension lift kit and put 32 inch Cooper tires on it. I know take it to the beach and to the ranch. It has handles exceptionally well in sand and mud up to a foot deep ! I'm very impressed with the drivetrain and the traction settings for sand and mud ! It actually handles better in sand than my three-quarter ton four-wheel-drive Dodge truck.

Huh. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Ridgeline with a lift.

The biggest hurdle the Ridgeline has to overcome is the large number of truck enthusiast with psycho social needs for ego reinforcement trapped in living out a penis comparison existence through their trucks.

My parents have a 2019 honda ridgeline sport with front wheel drive and let me just say once the hpd package comes out I'm definitely gonna get one. It is an amazing truck. Yes it's a truck! That turns heads, and once that VTEC kicks in you already know. Honda made something beyond your standard truck, and it's the future.

I sold my 2004 GMC Sierra SLT ext cab Z-71 4x4 with 132,000 miles & just got a 2019 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition AWD with 11,500 miles last month. For me it was gas mileage and maintenance. I own a 1995 Honda Accord EX Wagon with 139,000 and 2015 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite with 21,000 miles. I have zero issues with Honda that I can't say for my original owner GMC 2 instrument clusters, tailgate handle, ext cab door lock broke and crappy fuel mileage plus the paint was gone on hood & roof. I hardly used this truck for hauling much and not much for off roading. I'm just a happy Honda owner.

Great review Tim, Really like the Honda tailgate but the GM gate is way too complicated. Too many moving parts and options I would never use.. also would NEVER consider buying a vehicle that requires a belt change at 100,000 miles for an oil pump where it’s required to remove the transmission to change..”really” I remember you taking to the engineer and he said it was to keep it quiet, could you really hear it over the diesel clacking away??? Great review, still waiting for your take on the Ford ST Explorer.

Interesting question on the sound. I know the cabin is pretty quiet on the road for sure. Yes, yes on the Ford ST. I keep checking.

I have the 2023 RTL-E. A lot of noted deficiencies in this review have been addressed. Essentially, the same truck otherwise....and I hate that I love it. It's great.

Great Job! Appreciate the comment that it all depends on what you are going to use the truck for. I have owned a Silverado. So owning a large truck is definitely nice, but I just wasnt using it for its purpose. Honda Ridgeline 2019 has been outstanding. It's not for everyone for sure, but for what it does, it does it exceptionally well. Like the video stated, I have used its features, tail gate, empty cavity, rear air, sun roof and the seats. Plus my wife and son can drive it which is good thing for my family. Lastly, the price was about 5 grand less than the manufactured price. Only time can tell, but the GMC does look very nice. Thanks for putting this together.

As far as power goes, I remember when alot of people use to buy a Ford F-150 with a 145 hp I-6 and it did everything that most people needed to do. Same with GM and the 4.3 V6 in full size trucks. Both were reliable as hell too.

This is not a comparison of apples vs oranges, it's the tail of two Bobs. The Honda Ridgeline is Bob Newhart from "The Newhart Show" Bob (played by Bob Newhart) is a mild mannered hotel owner in Vermont who is also a published author of multiple handyman repair books. His books are standard DIY fare dealing in basic stiff like plaining warped doors to fit, basic plumbing, and light electrical (ie: ceiling fans and patio lighting). You'll find his truck over at Ace Hardware most of the time but he will occasionally go to Lowe's or Home Depot if absolutely necessary. The Sierra is Bob Villa. Full bearded and flannel shirted, Bob hosts "This Old House" where full restorations or outright rebuilds happen. (Usually to the cost of three times the price of the original building.) When Bob goes shopping, he hits the professional grade, contractor wholesale shops. More warehouse than store, these places are often off limits to the general public and armature inquiries. He'll go to Home Depot or Lowes if he has no choice, but would rather not. In the end both Bob's get the job done. The house looks better and is upgraded to the extent the owner wants. Both Bob's are accomplished and happy with their results. Only the image and directions travelled are different. The end results are the same.

RTL-E 2020 $38K out the door, averaging 26 MPG, useable trunk for groceries that doesn’t affect my interior space, AWD system that will react and adapt way faster than any “domestic” vehicle, and I bet the maintenance cost of any diesel out there over 5-6 years would buy a nice Ridgeline… just a superior vehicle. Does what a “half-ton” should be built to do. I’m tired of half-ton trucks that are over designed to pull unrealistic loads and cost a fortune.

I just happen to like both trucks! But I needed the Ridgeline! Bought a 2020 Sport, $36,000 was a little over my budget, but paid cash, and after 600 miles in the snow, very satisfied! I wouldn’t have bought the big truck for half the price, because I don’t need it! Both fine trucks!

I picked up a 2022 Black edition a few months back I absolutely love it!

He was right about washboards. You can tear down a rough road with a Ridgeline and everything stays straight. The body on frame models can get to be a handful through the stutter bumps.

Off-roading in anything other than an ATV , a dirt bike or a UTV is a joke. 4x4 trucks are pretending...buy the Ridgeline and use the extra cash for a real off road machine or a new boat or whatever. The Ridgeline has the only pick up bed worth calling a pick up bed and a massive storage trunk too boot. Revolutionary vehicle, easy to live with drives like a sports car and rides like a Cadillac.!

If you don't call the Ridgeline a real truck, then you better not call the Hyundai Santa Cruz a real truck either, since the Santa Cruz is a unibody as much as the Rudgeline is

The people that don't call the ridgeline a real truck are the ones that probably call a Jeep Gladiator a real truck.

By the time the Honda is broken in, the GMC would have been in the shop numerous times.

The Ridgeline is as much a truck as I need. I've owned numerous "real trucks" but in reality the Honda would have done all I ever required the others to do, and given me better mpg's and ride comfort. As to the better ride on washboard roads, There's a review out there that had a Taco, a Ridgeline, and maybe a Nissan for support, that traveled maybe 20 miles on a bad road to the "racetrack" in Death Valley. Both of the other trucks blew up their shocks, smoking, oil running down, while the Honda was fine and of course wasn't beating up the driver. Off road, rough terrain, probably not their forte, be eveyrwhere I drive it fills the bill. Definitely my next truck.

I feel like only people who have not owned a truck in the past are "cross-shopping" these things. If you have owned and used a truck, you know what direction you want to go.

I've owned several trucks. And I own a f150 right now. I also have land I maintain with a small tractor and a couple of zero turns. None of the towing I do requires more than 3500lbs. When I need a load of dirt or gravel I call in a semi truck to haul it to me. Tell me why again this isn't a real truck that would work for me but not you truck guys living in the suburbs?

Ridgeline

I know a lotta folks have issues with the Ridge but I'm really happy with mine. It's amazing how comfortable and quiet it is on the highway. Just got back from a road trip to Michigan and I wasn't even tired after a 6 hour driving stretch. People have different needs so I get it if you really need a higher towing capacity. Wouldn't a Canyon be a better comparison?

Bought a 21 Ridgeline Black Sport HPD package… I had an Accord sport 1.5t before that a Silverado Z71 … Honda Ridgeline the vehicle I NEEDED.

I own a 2018 Ridgeline and love it. Very practical and get the job done, very quite as well. But my heart is always a GMC Denali!! The GMC tail gate is superb!!! 🙇‍♂️ but it’s not reliable as the Honda!!

The Ridgeline would be a winner for me if it came with a full size spare tire. Why would you sell something that is meant to haul and tow without one?

all i know is that my well-maintained HOnda Odyssey has had two major engine issues and I'd have a tough time buying another Honda. This is from a guy who has owned multiple Hondas over the years and was previously a very happy customer.

I fully expect Honda to move more of their ridgelines now that they’ve actually made an attempt to improve its looks. At the end of the day, lots of people buy a vehicle with a least some emphasis on the way it looks.

Not a good comparison, why not a canyon and ridgeline? You didn’t measure the width of the bed! Ridgeline is wider.

What I had in the driveway this week.

I’m past the days of trying to be cool. Never was very good at it anyway, but I digress. The Ridgeline is a fantastic vehicle. I own a 2017 RTL-E and it does everything I need it to do and more. It’s the most comfortable vehicle I’ve ever owned and I will be buying a 2021 as soon as they are released. I can’t say enough good things about it. 👍🏻👍🏻

Love my 2020 Sport carry’s everything I need for hunting fishing and camping and tows my pop up and a comfortable ride.

Awesome review Tim. I picked up my AT4 with the Duramax back in the end of May. Same color as your test unit there. Your's must be the short bed as mine has the standard bed and will fit an 8ft piece of wood with just the top part of the tailgate down and the step opened up. I agree that the front of the Ridgeline looks like an minivan.

Yep, the short bed won't fit the drywall. The standard box will.

Talk about comparing apples to oranges. Think it totally depends on your needs. The Honda would work better for me.

They’re two different animals it’s like comparing a cat and dog. Some people like one or the other or both but rarely own both. The way they drive , handle, and are maintained is even different. Many people talk crap about the ridgeline but in my experience the people who talk the most crap don’t even use their truck for truck stuff maybe small piece of furniture or something if that. I’ll take the Ridgeline and if I want something bigger I’d take a Tundra but it’s more truck(fuel, tires, insurance) than my needs.

Is the Ridgeline transmission as bad as reported making noise and has to be serviced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. What ever happened to the 100,000 mile sealed transmission.

It wasn't that long ago that nobody offered a rear locker. My 03 discovery doesn't have one and it will still mop the floor with most other 4x4 suvs. The traction control amd locking center diff work great, mainly because the traction control does not reduce engine power like it does in all these new vehicles, but maybe thats because it does not have stability control. Even with the center diff unlocked the traction control still works wonders, but with the center diff locked its almost as good as having a rear locker. Cant tell you how many times I've almost got stuck in newer trucks because the traction control completely kills the engines power. Happened in my F250 work truck and my titan xd on some slick surface mud. Ive seen TRD pro tundras do pretty well offroad eben without a rear locker. People these days just can't drive.

Great comparison most would never touch. I am currently shopping this similar comparison for my heading into retirement vehicle. Don’t need to tow a 5,000 boat or RV so this is serious comparison for me. Love the engine in the Honda, better highway driver by far, and better MPG. Most all dislikes in the Ridgeline include the front end and rightfully so. 2021 fixes this problem and adds a HPD trim which seems to work. I will take the Ridgeline and $16000 in my pocket towards two ATV’s or a nice SXS. Thanks great review.

Thanks for watching. Most people don't think this is a real comparison, yet I talk with perspective buyers all the time who do this same comparison.

U need to do on the 1st gen Ridgeline 06 till 14 Ridgeline I own one

Can't do a dampener on the rear tailgate and have it open sideways. It's one or the other.

2021 ridgeline looks amazing. I might have to consider the hpd version witht he bronze wheel when it comes out

When you're willing to spend up to $63K for transportation there are lots of options. For example, if you have the space, get a little crossover like a RAV4 as a daily driver and take the $20+K and find a used full-size pickup. The reliably history of a used truck is widely available so the risk is lower than spending big dollars for new truck technology that isn't proven yet. Just use the truck for towing and hauling and the savings in fuel will offset the cost for insurance and license for the second vehicle.

So a Ridgeline is a perfect transportation and I get to keep 20 thousand in my pocket.

I was a GM guy for most of my life and I'm still a fan old school bowties but these modern ones are junk. I bought a first gen Ridgeline for next to nothing and it was a one owner . Great truck that doesn't get enough love the second gen Ridgeline is great on the inside awesome interior idk about the outside

But I think the Ridgeline would have more attention if they offered it in a manual transmission. You can’t really get a manual transmission mid or full size truck. With The exception of the TRD Tacoma’s. The fact that Ridgeline out sold the forntier in 2019 says something. So please Honda give us a manual transmission for the 2021 refresh

22:45 that lane keep assist did not come on my $55k msrp 2020 elevation and i can say on a honda crv it is a really really nice feature

Funny I usually have that stuffed turned off on my 2016 Honda Pilot. Just never got used to it , but I do like the Addaptive cruise, parking sensors, and Emergency breaking .

should compare this to a redesign 2021 Ridgeline.

Which one does your family get in & out of, better? My standard! Both very nice trucks, if you need one!
