Shoals, Indiana - Catfish Festival #1

The Catfish Festival does just about everything you can think of to celebrate the catfish and the Fourth of July. It's a hometown reunion that embraces patriotism, community pride and the river culture of Shoals, Indiana. This is the first part of an hour-long documentary on the 2011 Shoals Catfish Festival produced by Duane Busick.

When I first moved to Raleigh and went to work at a general contractors, my boss said that there was a guy down the hall that was from Indiana too. Usually it's someplace you've never heard of or at the other end of the state but this guy said he was from Jasper. I said that I was from Shoals and immediately he said, oh, you're a river rat. My boss and a couple of other guys looked at me like I'd probably get mad but I laughed, smiled and said hell yes, I'm a river rat!

Hi, hoping someone could answer a question. I used to live in Shoals, IN back in 1989-90. There were two houses on Main Street next to the Shoals United Methodist Church. I lived in the one closest to the church, which is now a lawyer's office I believe. The other house is completely gone. Does anyone know what happened to those two houses? I loved living in that house back then and I was saddened when I went to visit about 5 years ago to discover it gone. The town was almost unchanged except for my old house being gone, and I've never found it what happened. Any info would be appreciated.
