I really like how the front hatch interior compartment is an 'indent' and not a cut out into the kayak. This keeps the water out of your boat, even if your hatch not completely sealed! awesome subtle adjustment @crescent!. And that board + anchor wizard recessing, spot on!

I have to agree that "Market Demand" has big influence on what I see here.. I for one desired a craft that would draft shallow waters that is normally found in small skinny rivers.. Whereas the Lite Tackle fell short in that aspect.. However, the LT preformed amazingly and likely the best of any in water that was deep enough to avoid dragging. The CK1 appears to have addressed that situation to a large degree.. I have not run my CK1 enough to determine if that was a perfect compromise between low draft and great carving abilities..?? Now this craft is likely the best compromise in trying to do all in one. For sure the "Fishing Management Systems" is the best I've seen at any price point in a strictly paddle kayak and possibly pedal drive too.. I don't have any experience in the pedal drive market, so I can't be dogmatic. That said; This craft appears to have enough rocker to make quick maneuvers when need be and manage all fishing tasks extremely well. I might have to acquire one for my quiver of yaks.. It's best to have a variety in your quiver so that you can pick the best arrow/yak for the circumstances at hand. Congratulations to James & Drew, as well as the whole team involved for such an AWESOME Collaboration.. ..That of; Passion, Wisdom and Knowledge for such a sweet creation. I have created solid models using "Solidworks" and understand the sense of accomplishment in creating your passion. This is literally art in the manufacturing world.

Drew is a great guy. He single handedly made me a Jackson kayak customer. He went way above and beyond and gave me his personal number to answer questions I had about the original Coosa when it was released. Sad I just learned about this kayak. I'm most certainly going to try to get ahold of one of these, even though I'm not too familiar with crescent as a brand, his name alone sold me.

Oof. This looks amazing. I've been perfectly happy with my LiteTackle for the last two years, so I don't think I can justify the cost to upgrade right now. But I have an anchor wizard, boonedox landing gear, and fish finder with bottom mounted transducer on my LiteTackle, and I can't help but ponder how much cleaner that would all be on this. As a bigger guy, the increased secondary stability would also be amazing. Time to wander off and think about this constantly for a while.

Specifically love that the tank well is sealed and with internal rod storage. I hate front tank wells which are completely open into hull….I always loose gear when it slides out of reach…..also in large waves it is place for potential unsafe amounts of water intrusion. I could go on and on with this kayak and the smart design features!

  • @LilFella67

@kayakDIY I agree on your open tank well comments. In my opinion, the lite tackle version would be better if the tankwell wasn’t cut out. The Shoalie eliminates that water ingress problem as well as lost items.

I've had my CK1 in everything from giant crashing waves on Lake Michigan (now THAT was a blast) to rock-bottomed rivers so shallow I had to walk my boat like a horse. The 11ft length on my CK1 is just short enough to allow me to throw it in my truck bed, but long enough to track well and allow us bigger guys to feel stable. I'm in my mid 50s now, so this is likely my "forever" boat at this point, but it's all good because it's the perfect boat for me. If I was more of an angler, the Shoalie would be on my list. In the end It's all about getting out on the water.

I have never ever fished before this year, and I have never kayak fished. But I have done extensive EXTENSIVE research on a fishing kayak that I feel wild work well with fly fishing. I can tell that this was designed more for the conventional fisherman, but I think the way you guys integrate mounting options for other products in the market like the anchor wizard is what sold me. The kayak looks amazing. I’m definitely going to be looking to get one of these.

@@theoutdoordad7395 - thanks for.looking into this and following up. I assume fly rods could be secure externally without much of an issue. I really like.the features of this kayak.

Power pole four bolt pattern is the set up. I’m sure there will be ton of plates or adaptions to pull it off

$1500 kayak and it still has those screw in plastic fabric handles. Even the $600 academy brand has solid molded handles

Shoalie has 3 injection molded handles made in U.S.A. by Yakattack. The singular soft handle at the back allowed for the drag chain chutes while simultaneously being able to mount a power plate into the 4 bolt pattern
