Shnootz - Reaction Video (Tori Amos - The Wrong Band)

What's happening, folks! I'm back with another Tori Amos reaction from her 1994 album Under the Pink, and this time we listen to fun, musical-style "The Wrong Band," a song with some intriguing lyrics (though I'm not sure how the bits I heard all stitch together), as well as some different keyboard lines and a couple really nice moments from Tori vocally. So join me was we return to this mid '90s Tori album. Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on KZread and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on KZread, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz

Love this song. I remember it being the most accessible from UTP on first listen, Still holds up. Love her vocal range on this one, and lots of fun lyrics. "She's got a soft spot for heels and spurs" "Even the suns got a price on it" "Don't be afraid to open your eyes"

“Sex is only safe for men... The Wrong Band, that’s what it’s about. The Wrong Band, with Heidi and Ginger and me, we’re all professionals in The Wrong Band. My character, although I say she, who’s really written about a woman that I knew that had to leave for Japan. She left to be protected, because she was involved with somebody in the house years ago. This was years ago. She got in too deep. She just knew too much, and she was really afraid they that they were going to kill her, they were going to ser her up and kill her. She went to Japan to be protected by another powerful man, but she didn’t have too many choices at that point, and he was powerful enough to hide her in Japan. I never heard from her again. I don’t know what happened. And I knew her for three years. You just get in too deep, and when the Heidi [Fleiss] thing came out - whatever you do to open your mouth or cause it or whatever it is, it’s just kind of a shame that, again, it’s that control of the Patriarchy. That goes back to God again.” [Baltimore Sun - January 1994]

The big key to understanding Under the Pink is the general theme of what women go through, and sometimes what women do to other women. This song would have fit in well in the Me Too Movement, as you may notice it talks about what men with power put women through, and seems to reduce their nasty little proclivities into farce, making these powerful men seem childish. "It's the dog trainer again...", a not-so-subtle allusion to BDSM, "...he says that he thinks she needs more hands", if you're on-the-other-hand-ing people too much, you're just making excuses for bad behavior, and you might run out of hands.

Oh yay! I was thinking you had abandoned the Tori journey. You always have an interesting perspective on her lyrics, so glad to see you reacting to another Tori

Apropos harpsichord - can't wait for your reaction to "Boys For Pele" (her "metal"-record)! Little bit sad Luka wasn't there with you ...

I always refer to BfP as her harpischord punk era. It's my favorite still after all these years.
