Shnootz - Reaction Video (Pet Shop Boys - Jealousy)

What's up, people! I'm back with another Pet Shop Boys reaction, and this time we listen to the final song on the 1990 album Behaviour, the atmospheric, beautiful, and emotional "Jealousy," a song I had lots of thoughts and comments about afterward (hence the length of this video). So join me as we finish another PSB album, though as I discuss, there are more tunes from this era to go through. Cheers, and big shout-out to Seb!
Also I run a Patreon featuring some extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation and getting access to reactions blocked on KZread, behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos can go here: / shnootz

Neil explains it’s about a friend from Newcastle who got jealous about the amount of time he was spending with Chris.

Ive always loved the song. The songs ending always makes me imagine end of a gig. Arms stretched out taking in the applause a "Thank you and goodnight" moment.

This song resonates with the majority of people. Musically, I love the flourish at the end

This song did start out as a piano piece, and the piano and strings as well as the way Neil sings it are all beautiful. I like that "discordant, troubled thought" part as well! Others have already provided some background for the song (Neil's friend), but I found this amusing: when Neil first heard what Chris has composed, he said he could imagine Edith Piaf singing it, then thought about his jealous friend and was inspired to write lyrics that were "theatrically bitter." Maybe that's what they had in mind with the big drums, horns and harp ending. A big finish to the play!

This, apparently, was the first song Tennant and Lowe wrote together but this was the first time it was on a release

Great reaction as always, thanks for sharing that or personal story, relating to the song! I actually like the melancholic and epic elements, they somehow blend together. A classic PSB ballad, always enjoyed it! I like all PSB albums, but obviously you like some more than others, and I do prefer the more dance oriented ones. Behaviour is still a great album that I've listened to a lot, but it wouldn't crack my top 5 list.

I don't know if you have made a reaction to a single from this era called "Where the streets have no name?/I can't take my eyes off you" is a cover, they didn't include it on Behaviour but it was single on this era. Go directly to the extended version, it's a longer version of the single version.

Another great, interesting reaction. It occurs to me that some bands you react to receive very few views. Have you considered stopping some of them and increasing the frequency of your PSB reactions? Otherwise at the current rate I reckon you’ll finish their catalogue in 2038 😂

Ha, well that's the thing----fans of one group will say I should stop other reaction-series to concentrate on their group, and others want me to do that with yet other groups. But if the idea is that I should basically only continue with the journeys that are most popular in terms of views, then some really great deep-dives like Big Country and Alison Moyet and Dubstar would be the casualties, and I wouldn't be happy with that either. So again, I do my best to balance things, and while I suppose that has meant giving slight priority to some more followed deep-dives, I still try to make sure I'm doing at least occasional videos for other less popular deep-dives, not to mention keeping up with techno and punk reactions (the stuff I was doing in the earliest days). I would also point out that the last couple months, I've been doing one PSB and one Liza reaction from Results at the same time, so it's been sort of like two PSB reactions every time around. In any case, your feedback is noted and I will certainly try to keep going through PSB's catalog as briskly as I can, all things considered. Cheers.

Hey Matt! Hopefully You will check out the single version of this, which was re-recorded with the real orchestra for the occasion! Either on the extra folder of Behaviour u got or their first singles collection from 1991 called Discography. That one has some singles from the era released after Behaviour. And, if I may remind you, there’s still a reaction pending on “It’s alright” single version, which is on Discography too!😉

And of course there’s the extended version of this, where, apart from the extended orchestral finale, Neil quotes Shakespeare in the beginning!😉

Your reaction to the outro is interesting. I must admit I never really saw it as out of place. Perhaps the main person in the song did decide to call it quits and walk away from such a toxic relationship and that is the triumphant resolution to the story. Great reaction as always. And yes you must hear the single mix. It's even more epic.
