Shnootz - Reaction Video (ABBA - Move On)

What's up, folks! I'm back with another ABBA reaction from their 1978 album The Album, and this time we listen to "Move On," another stunning tune sonically and one with (as far as I could tell) a hopeful, positive prescription to keep moving and not let setbacks break you completely. Either way, join me for another musical masterpiece from the one and only ABBA. Cheers!
Also I recently set up a Patreon, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation can go here. Cheers! / shnootz

Together with Dancing Queen this is the one ABBA song that gave me physical and emotional trembles. When I first heard it I though it's from out of space. So beautiful, rich and powerful.

I love the part where Agnetha's crooning with Frida's falseto backing her 4:07 >"the morning breeze that ripples the surface of the sea/the crying of the seagulls that hover over me/i see it and i hear it but how can i explain/...the wonder of the moment ?...to be alive and feel the sun that follows every rain'... And hats off to Bjorn for his poetry.

When they sing 'like a roler in the ocean' it always feels like youre moving along with the rising wave. So well done. The' lalala's' are gorgeous! I even think Bjorn also felt the wave feeling in this music when writing this lyric. Because he always writes what the music tells him.. (he always wright on completed music tracks)

Thank you for another great reaction!❤🇸🇪 Beautiful song, I know people who wants this played or performed at their funeral. It's Björn (Ulvaeus) who speaks at the beginning which makes sense since he wrotes most of the lyrics.

Until I read the lyrics, I too heard it as "an explosion" instead of "life is motion". "Move On" is so uplifting , melodically and sonically. Faltskog's crystal clear voice in the verses, and Lyngstad's velvety lower tones in the chorus are such a joy. One of ABBA's best.

This is a sentimental favorite of their lesser-known album tracks. It's just so unabashedly soaring, plus the very slight Latin American influence in the polyrhythms... just kills me.

I know and love this song since I was a little boy. Haven't heard it for many years now. It reminds me of the summers with my Mom and Dad and my sister. They are all dead now and it kinda hurts to hear this song again. In some ways life really sucks. 😕

This is another favourite ABBA song for me and connects in a spiritual and meaningful way. The first and second verses seem to describe a person seeking spiritual truth or meaning ('if I explore the heavens or if I search inside', 'somewhere lies the answer to all the questions why'), and the third verse and chorus tell us where the answer can be found ('like a wind that's always blowing, life is flowing', 'I see it and I hear it.... the wonder of the moment'). There is a vital, hopeful, and uplifting feeling that pervades the entire song.

Hello again my dear Matt and thanks for another reaction to ABBA songs on an album as sophisticated and versatile as "The Album" (1977) "Move on" is one of the most original songs and maybe the most underrated it hasn't official video or TV perfomance its a beautiful gem The melody surprises from the beginning, with a complex and complete instrumentalization, including sounds of Andean music (like those of my region in South America) Björn's prologue stands out, that introduces us to an excellent lyric, with a mystical part that includes the meaning of life and invites us to take center stage the voices are majestic, one of ABBA's best vocal and choral works Agnetha's solo is soft, sweet and beautiful, and in the next verse She is harmonies with the voice of Frida, (it's from anthology) and with the choirs at pure power, with those almost mystical "lalala", together with a growing music, they make a spectacular symphony. All the songs in "The Album" (1977) have their distinctive stamp, it is an album of excellence (a Masterpiece); remember that included; The name of the game (complex and wonderful) Take a chance on me (the most catchy pop) Eagle (fantastic rock progresive) One man one woman (beautiful ballad) and much more to comming soon Hole in your soul and the mini musical with Thank you for the music I wonder (departure) I'm a marionette and "Move On" is a fantastic creation by ABBA and the best demonstration of their openness to exploring new musical genres and in 1980 ABBA recorded "Move on" in spanish: "Al Andar", to the album "Gracias por la Música" (1980) I give you all My best regards and wish a greatest week to You and DJ from Buenos Aires Argentina GOD bless You

When I was a kid my Dad would always turn the tape over at the end of Name Of The Game hence we would always miss the beginning of this track so I never heard Bjorn's monologue. Thanks Dad. Anyway, what a burst of sunshine - an ode to freedom of the body and the mind, to traveling the world but also exploration of the self, and how the two are often intertwined. It's essentially a folk song, the flutes and acoustic guitars but it's the vocals that really make it, the crescendo of the "like a roller in the ocean" part and the lalala's - it all invokes visions of sunshine and reflections on water, beautiful blond people living idyllic lives. You can almost hear it being sung in The Wicker Man as they dance around the burning effigy, the screams in the background.

A separate comment, in general about your reactions to ABBA and this playlist From the beginning you have been doing a wonderful job, letting yourself be surprised by each ABBA song, with absolute honesty and professionalism, and being faithful to a work methodology (which I have been able to verify in some reactions to Bee Gees and other artists). This is reflected in the following of several ABBA fans, which has been growing album by album, the number of views of your reactions is increasing more and more. And I have been checking this last thing specifically, because to accompany your work I am also doing a separate one, in an excel spreadsheet I am computing and updating the number of views of each song and totalized by album I'm not going to be heavy with the numbers, but today there is a milestone: before you start with "Move on" the total of your 51 previous reactions just today exceeded 30,000 views Congratulations! In the Top 10 of the most viewed are: S.O.S. Knowing me knowing you Ring Ring (I think it's too high because it has the benefit of opening your playlist) Eagle (in just two weeks he is already fourth and is on the podium) When I kissed the teacher That's me Money money money I've been waiting for you Fernando My love my life also "S.O,S." & "Knowing me knowing you" are in the Top10 of all your music reactions Congratulations to all ABBA fans for these P.S.: don't worry about the 'video thing' logically, ABBA fans like to see them, because both the official videos and their television or live presentations complement what is heard in the audio recordings but your 'blind' reaction methodology is very interesting, honest, devoid of expectations, just the music, what's better! Likewise, later you can see them in your privacy, so that you can complete what you hear with an image, without altering your methodology.

I think that shows as well, because I've always found Voulez-Vous a step back (or sideways at best), rather than an album which is better than the last. I think it's rather busy and noisy, and although some individual songs are real gems, the album as a whole seems to be a bit too much pandering to then modern music styles, rather than creating their own style. But then, The Album is their best (probably together with The Visitors) album anyway, I think, so it will always have been hard to come up with something even better.

One of the one criticisms of the song is Bjorn's hokey intro narrative. It would not be on the Spanish version where Agnetha sings the intro verse. To date, Bjorn did not have his usual solo track on The Album. Previously he had various on Ring Ring & Waterloo, 2 on the album,Abba, and 1 on Arrival. With none on this one for the first time, I wondered whether his talky bit here was throwing himself a bit of a bone to say, well, at least I get to speak on the Album, if not sing on it. We'll never know. Subsequently, he would get his solo track back again on the next and second last album, but miss out again on Super Trouper. Speculation, speculation....

Ah, interesting! And indeed, I've heard people talk about that "one track with Bjorn singing on each album" concept, so perhaps you're right with the opening bit here (which did seem a bit unusual, but it didn't stand out too much to me once the full song started in earnest). Thanks for commenting, appreciate the insight!

Yet another perfect ABBA gem! The great thing about ABBA was and is that on every album, there´s not only 2-3 hits - but high quality all throughout! Also on this album - not a single track that I don´t love. Move On is such a positive and uplifting song - and the vocals are just amazing! The next tracks will surprise you, because they are so diverse - from a rock banger, to a epic sing-a-long song, to a power ballad, and last a dramatic musical-genre finisher! Enjoy!

Heard an interview where Bjorn was saying RADIO when they were younger was very international in Sweden ; many different cultures informed his early music listening ... Which they display well in this song ... ABBA produced a COMPLETE Spanish album with many of these ' Album ' songs ... They used translators to work with them to get it right ... I don't speak Spanish but I PREFER ' Move on ' ( ' Al andar ' ) in Spanish to this English version . It doesn't feature a man speaking in it ... just the female vocals ... which I prefer . And the lyrics translate back to English a little different than the original ...
