Shnootz - Reaction Video (ABBA - Eagle)

What's up, folks! I'm back with another ABBA reaction, and this time we kick off their 1977 album The Album with the song "Eagle," a really beautifully composed and thematically soaring track that has me extremely excited for what else is coming. So join me as we begin going through another ABBA album. Cheers!

Credit should be given to both Abba backing musicians Janne Schaffer & Lasse Wellander who improvised the guitar work on the track. Respects go to Lasse who died just the other day aged 70.

The Album is pretty much flawless. Bjorn & Benny are at their creative peak, especially Benny is coming into his element with his synth work. Eagle is firmly in my ABBA top 5. It's the longest song in their catalog. It's been released in various abridged versions, but nothing comes close to the full album version. A quasi-psychedelic masterpiece, with fantastic guitar work (RIP Lasse Wellander).

I’m still blown away by this song after all these years. Pop meets Folk with a dollop of prog rock thrown in for good measure. The way the music floats and soars like the proverbial eagle is masterful. A non typical ABBA song yet manages to simultaneously sound just like an ABBA song is genius. Great reaction Matt 👍🏻

This opening track made me a big fan of ABBA. I love the electric guitar by Lasse Wellander, who recently just passed 😪. One should listen to this song on a headphone. You’ll appreciate the amazing instrumentation more. When I’m on an airplane, I always listen to this song, flying over the clouds….

This was their best selling album. I can not wait for your reaction to Move on and also One man one woman. Both criminally underrated songs. Especially Move on with a male lead vocal on the first verse. A tropical folky melancholy masterpiece 👌👌👌

ABBA in the 70s were hungry art consumers, pop culture aficionados. This song reflects their love for sun-dappled West-coast rock from The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, as well as the film Jonathan Livingston Seagull and its accompanying Neil Diamond soundtrack. In fact the whole of Side A from The Album is California country rock and funk filtered through ABBA's Eurocentric lens, and the output is quite simply astonishing. If you've never heard The Name of the Game, prepare yourself. Move On is equally spellbinding. For a quick diversion, you might enjoy the Eagle portion of the group's 1977 accompanying feature film, ABBA: The Movie, an Australian tour mock-doc directed by a then-emerging Lasse Hallstrom. It wasn't the official promotional video, but it's one of their best moments on film. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKmqsMucfsrIiZs.html

This album had Abba moving further than their perfect Europop sound of ARRIVAL and going more American flavoured kind of matching the laid back Californian sound.Has some prog-rock influences but also expanded in musical theatre.Imagine Arrival opened with "When i kissed the teacher' while this one with 'Eagle'.What a progress! And its the same band who released "Nina pretty Ballerina' 4 years back. Hats off!

This was the track that brought my Dad on board with Abba. My Dad liked his rock, he had been a Mod in the sixties, liked his blues, his West Coast rock, a bit of prog - and it's all here in this track. He would never let me and my Mum play Arrival in the car (thanks Dum Dum Diddle) but this was played and played LOUD. That gorgeous warm synth that's like a take off at the beginning, it feels like you are floating in a vast sky, held aloft by air currents, the amazing guitar solos (Dad cranks up the dial) and of course the vocals and magic harmonies. It's very trippy, very prog, very grown-up Abba. It really is Abba for people who don't think they like Abba. Lyrically it's like a dream or a trip, becoming friends with the eagles and joining them in the sky, questioning them as they are old and wise. I mean who hasn't dreamt or fantasized about flying? It's amazing. There is another track later on which my Dad would try and deafen us with - I'm sure you will guess it when it comes.

You know i had read some years back that The Human League kinda got inspired and partly 'used' the main keyboard line of Eagle in a twisted way in their big 1981 smash hit 'Don't you want me'.Leaderman Phil Oakey was a daring self confessed Abba fan since then, though the girls Suzanne and Joanne were closet ones.Frida had attented their Stockholm gig (March 1982) where the met backstage and got photographed chatting and laughing.

Oh what a nice surprise, today you gave us double reaction from ABBA "Eagle" (1977) It is the longest song of ABBA, almost six minutes It is the opening song of their fifth album, entitled "ABBA The Album" (1977), which coincides with the release and premiere of their film "ABBA The Movie" (1977), which records ABBA's memorable tour of Australia and throughout the ABBAmania "Eagle" was released as a single in a few countries, It's a shame it didn't get a chance to be the third single from "The Album" in the UK (following "The Name of the Game" and "Take a Chance with Me" which you'll hear already) "Eagle" Many associate it with progressive rock, and say that its sound is the closest thing to the style of Pink Floyd or other similar groups. others relate it as a tribute to the Eagles group others relate the lyrics to 'Juan Salvador Gaviota' which is absolutely clear that it is a song that you never get tired of listening to, its almost 6 minutes are absolutely rich, and the joint voices of Agnetha and Frida, armored together with the magic of the 'Third Voice', literally fly like eagles , just as the instrumental ending leaves us with that feeling of flying in the sky for many it is the best ABBA song in my opinion it is 9 points, absolutely brilliant... but there is more, and in this same album "Eagle" ABBA performed it in a television presentation in Germany 1978 (in a reduced version, together with another song from this album "Thank you for the music") and in the opening of their TV special in Japan 1978 and has a special filming in Stockholm for the movie "ABBA The Movie" (with Agnetha already pregnant, although it is hardly noticeable) and it is performed in their concerts of the 1979 Tour in North America and Europe ABBA made an official video for "Eagle", reduced to just over 3 minutes, without one of the choruses and the final instrumental part, for better dissemination in the media

WOW! This is one of my top 3 favourite ABBA songs! I never get tired of listening to Eagle - because it has so many layers and both the lyrics and composition, vocals and arrangement is on such a high level! I rememeber when I as a 12 year old boy listened to The Album on my cassette player for the first time, with Eagle as the first song - I thought: Is this really ABBA??? But I was so happy to hear them in this more mature way, and I still return to this Album today and enjoy so much listening to it! Enjoy the next songs on this album - you will not get disappointed! ;-) The fantastic guitar work on Eagle, was played by studio musician Lasse Wellander, whom ABBA worked with throughout their career - sadly, Lasse Wellander passed away on april 7th, only 70 years old! He made a great contribution to the ABBA sound! R.I.P.! BTW: I love your reactions - they are - opposite to many others - genuine and reflected! Keep on the good work! ;-) Love, from Flemming, Denmark!

A new comment, very special I have noticed that this new reaction to "Eagle" has ecceded all expectations, and in it's first 24 hours it had approximately 450 views, and it continúe to incrase (if my memory Is correct, More than any other ABBA song on the first day) In addition to recognizing that your reaction and attitude have been greatly appreciated by the fans, and noticing that this song has amazed you, I think that "Eagle" will literally fly very high on your ABBA playlist As I said again, everything is dynamic, and each new song Is a box of surprises, but this begining with "The Album" exceeds the begining of all previous, as progress with each album the number of visits to your channel increases (or at least, the ABBA playlist) I can only say congratulations for your excellent work, your musical openness and your cordiality Continue enjoying together

Janne Schaffer is an amazing guitarist / song writer, best known for his work as a session guitarist for ABBA but he has also recorded with artists such as Bob Marley, Johnny Nash, Art Farmer and Tony Williams. He has released many many solo albums and with a band Electric Banana Band and has done five thousand recordings. Here he plays Eagle and starting at 4:55 he really lets go. I have to both agree and disagree with you. The 1979 Live version of Eagle is very, very special. Yes. However, without knowledge of their performances across all different concert locations, I am flabbergasted by what one could listen at their early dates, specifically at Milwaukee (ABBA's 2nd 1979 live concert). The prominent and bold GX-1 playing by Benny, the girls voices delicately echoing one another and sort of discovering their new sound and vocal style prepared for this song live rendition, the general rousing vibes present, but the real astonishing part is the wide and ambitious playing by Lasse Wellander... and B&B letting him run with it!! And still he leaves us wanting for more... At the time, such guitar playing was even vanguard, perfectly fitting here the composition and scope of this song. kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKOAq8uil8u-p84.html *Forgive this source low recording quality. Somewhen this will be properly released.
