well I'm glad to know I'm not missing much whenever I finally play my hard-got copy of Shipyard! I got an insert for it so i'm not seeing much of a need for this new edition.

I love the fact that Rahdo only does video playthroughs for games he and Jen really enjoy and therefore feel comfortable recommending. My wallet doesn’t. Please Richard, stop it.

Love my OG Shipyard and your videos way back when got me into it, thank you, Suchy and CGE! I like the aesthetic of this version (not so much the ship piece meeples). Nitpicks might be the personnel just being their busts. While I love the looks of the main action selection mechanism, I also like the, albeit busy, original... just makes the 'rondel soup' nature of the game more in your face. The solo does look smoother... some day maybe I'll have to get 2nd version, at least it makes it accessible to folks! On the balance concern, I do play with the variant of having the government contracts public objectives. I also laugh cause i played Evolution a few times with my daughter crushing me. I looked up balance issues on BGG and the community seemed to unanimously agree... I just suck! 😂

@@rahdo me too, though there are some games I actually stand a chance, like Shipyard. There are others I do not, like Dungeon Petz. I enjoy all, win or lose!

Haven’t played this game yet (about to) but there are many games in which some objectives are harder to master for first-timers . Golem is a good example. I do think it’s part of good game design to balance things out from the get-go. Saying: “it’s not unbalanced, you just have to play five times and you’ll figure it out” seems a little off. I do want a game to be fun and fair from round one. Therefore, I do appreciate the newby objective recommendations. 🙂

yes, definitely something that other developers would benefit from, following in suchy's footsteps here!

I recall this game being labelled as "heavy" from that old video as well. I have never found a copy of original, and excited to buy the new edition. It is "interesting" for me as well, to see how the more you get exposed into the hobby, the more you now consider something on a "lighter" spectrum. In really, this is still probably really heavy for most people.
