Ships of the Kriosian Fleet

Ойын-сауық

in this weeks fundraising video i take a look at the various starships of the Kriosian Fleet, both those of the sovereign guard and those of the great houses. looking at their specifications, armaments, and how they compare to other vessels of the 22nd century. be they Human, Orion, or Klingon. is this fleet up to the task of defending Krios and her empire from its enemies.

Hello Venom. Funny thing... the Kriosian Fleet kinda looks the way I envisioned my own 'star trek' like ships for a writers group I used to be a part of. My designs were more 'blocky' looking overall, but the same 'delta' shapes and proportions. Unlike the Kriosians, My ships featured heavily armored ( and I mean heavily, as in triple the hull thickness ) 'blister' turrets for most external weaponry. Weapons were mounted on the angled front, sides, and under (dorsal) sides of the hull, with 3/4's of the missile compliment facing forwards, and 1/4 facing aft. But, overall, my ships were far larger than the Kriosian Fleet's vessels. I would say an average of at least twice as large and with far thicker hull armor. As to armor... well, I got a friend of mine to work out the molar-values for certain alloys... the best of which I called 'TaC-TiC' armor... This armor was made of Tantalum-Carbide and Titanium-Carbide. The two materials interlocking on a molecular scale into thin very rigid sheets. TaC-TiC is Ta (Tantalum), C (carbon), Ti (Titanium), and C (carbon). Were we able to make this alloy today, it would average somewhere between 30 to 60 times as strong as high crabon, Titanium alloyed Steel... and weigh about 1/5th as much. Between layers of TaC-TiC, there were layers of an alloy composed of Silicon, Molybdenum, Sapphire, Carbon, and Boron. This layer was designed to 'scatter' the incoming energy by vaporizing as well as 'pump' energy across a larger area to surrounding armor plates to reduce penetration of the TaC-TiC layers. Given my knowledge of 'Trek' armoring... Tri-Tanium is far heavier for a given square meter of hull than my 'composite' layers of materials, and far easier to penetrate as well. For the same thickness of armor, my ships would be far better armored... and in fact, I never built a ship that had more than half the general thickness of Federation ship armor plating, since that half thickness would work out to be well over a dozen times as effective. By fitting large electromagnets under the hull armor, my ships could use a magnetic effect to pull vaporized Titanium and Titanium compounds back onto the hull after a hit struck the armor. Although of little real effect for overall hull strength, every little bit counts, and such a system could 'layer' an area hit with Titanium and 'patch' it over, making further hits to that area a bit harder to penetrate. Since I 'saved' so much Mass from Armor, I was able to make my ships larger and still be as fast, or faster than anything of a comparable class of ship, even though my ships were larger in volume overall. By having multiple Nacelles, and 'balancing' multiple warp cores of various sizes, I was able to 'economize' on A-Matt fuel usage, as well as get more power out of a given Core. Each sized Core having a 'sweet spot' where it was most efficient. By mixing the outputs of several Cores, I could almost always have more than enough energy to fill whatever demands were needed, in or out of combat. Multiple Nacelles granted me the ability to maneuver even if one or more were damaged or destroyed, as well as have multiple 'warp fields'... the primary of which was for movement, the others to 'shape' the overall field, making it more 'streamlined' and thus faster in Warp. (mental example... think of a magnetic field, and use other magnets to shape it). The Hulls of my ships were designed with 'bulkheads' and 'Blast Corridors'... a way to 'channel' the 'blast' effects of enemy weaponry as well as any out-gassing from the hull, to further diminish incoming damage and channel it to prevent further penetration. The final 'Inner Hull' was nearly as heavily armored as the exterior hull, and was where all the critical components of the ship were located. On top of all this, All my ships 'pumped down' to near vacuum states in all compartments of the ship other than the Inner Hull. Thus again reducing damage and out-gassing. And all crew would wear armored 'Ship's Suit' that were in effect, light powered armor and armored space suits, while in combat. Out of Combat, a crew-person would wear a 'uniform' that was mostly an unarmored space suit. Except when sleeping, bathing, or recreating. Is it any wonder when I 'ran into' the Federation in that Writer's Group, that they about crapped their collective pants when they found out how I was building and designing my ships? And this does not include true, Powered Armor used for 'boarding actions'! Suits that massed upwards of 3 tons for an 'Assault Class' suit of PAPA (Power Assisted Personal Armor). A bit off topic perhaps, but not sorry.

@@gravityzap08 : Not really. Just larger volumes of internal space for the same mass-weight of an equivalent ship type/class. So, even though my version of a 'Connie' Cruiser is actually shorter, in overall length, it would have more volume and be heavier armored, due to the lighter, yet more durable armor materials. So, the same 'output' of engine would result in similar speeds, but my ship would mass the same, or tad bit less, and be far more survivable in most measurable ways. Also, requiring the crew to wear 'ship suits' and pumping down atmosphere before combat, results in fewer fatalities, and less damage from explosive decompression effects. Again, making my ships more survivable. Multiple Cores and Nacelles means I can 'balance' the output of the multi-cores to desired output values, without 'wasting' fuel running a larger single engine would entail. Multiple Nacelles gives redundancy against outright drive failure, and provides better maneuvering and more efficient use of warp bubbles to achieve any desired speed, without over taxing the main Drive itself.

So Kriosians fleet has both quality and a decently amount quantity (150 ships is indeed a lot for the 22nd century). From watching this video, I find similarities between the Kriosian fleet and that of the Joseon (Early-Modern Korean) fleet from between the 15th and 19th centuries. Indeed quite a power to be reconned with. I wonder how the Kriosian battleship would fair in a 1v1 against a Vulcan Surak class starship.

Question: are the particle beams on the battlecruisers and battleships in a fixed position or can they be moved and targeted? And if they are adjustable, do they provide any rear weapons coverage? It would seem like a pretty significant oversight on the part of the Kriosians to have ships with no ability to fire at pursuers. Fun fact: the first and last weapon fired by the Enterprise-D was its rear torpedo launcher.

Today's destroyers are not that much smaller than pre-WW1 battleships, yet lack the big guns (but do have other missiles). Seems to be a defensive posture. The corvettes, and the battlecruiser to a lesser degree, seems geared for constabulary duties (anti-pirate patrols, revenue cutters, etc.) while the battleships form the core of the systems defense. I am guessing teh battleships do not have much range or endurance with that much firepower and armor. And to be fair, light cruisers did act as fleet scouts and commerce protection in the days of the gun navies.
